I'm an experienced guitar player, who returned to the instrument after a many year absence. It took me a LONG time to find a guitar teacher..and I found one with Nathan Montgomery. There were many others who could play, but not teach. Nathan is A LOT more patient with me than I am, and patient with the material no matter how simple or complex it is. Nathan always has some little practice technique that helps me to train my mind and my fingers or that can give me a process for getting through a piece that's complicated for me. He's flexible..if my muse and big mouth take our lesson in a completely different direction...he goes with it, tho does refocus me when necessary. Because Nathan has all these qualities, I can easily picture him teaching any one, any age, any level. There were some who could teach guitar, but NOT music, because they didn't really know music theory. Nathan infuses my lessons with thoughts on how music is designed and created, so I'm gradually getting a theory foundation while I learn songs I'm enjoying. There were few who actually LISTENED to what I could do before deciding how to teach me, as Nathan does repeatedly, because what I can do is constantly changing. Most importantly, I see a smile on Nathan's face when he sees progress...so I'm thinking it's not just a job to him. Met Don Ross (guitar god) at a workshop once and he offered to teach me, saying he could cover my music theory gaps in 4 lessons. I told him... "I'm good..I gotta great guitar teacher."

Nathan is a outstanding teacher who constantly thrives to make my kid excel at her passion in guitar. He is honest critic of her area of opportunities and tells her how to correct, which help her to get better. He is flexible and very accommodative with the schedules. I would recommend him with no reservations.

Nathan is a great and patient teacher. He makes sure you understand the theory behind the music as well as make every lesson fun. He’s a very talented musician and cool guy.

FAQs

  • What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

Music is constantly changing. I practice 3-4 hours daily in addition to teaching.

  • Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?

Many of my students enter the American Guild of Music competition. Last year my top student won 1st place in all three guitar divisions. I have former students who have gone on to college for music and who are teachers and performers themselves.

  • What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

I love teaching! Many musicians teach because they have to, I teach because its who I am.
