Sally was very nice to work with and my dog Lucy enjoyed working with her too. Lucy liked to jump up a lot and Sally taught us techniques that showed results right away. She had great tips and suggestions on how to care for her. We plan to hire Sally if Lucy ever needs care while we are out of town.

Kristine took care of our German Shepard, Dio, for an extended period over the holidays. Kristine took care of Dio as if she was her own. Daily walks and trips to the dog park were just some of the ways Kristine ensured our dog stayed healthy and happy. Kristine was professional but also warm and easy to talk to and it made the tough part of leaving a loved pet behind so much easier. We will definitely call on Kristine for any future pet sitting needs and we highly recommend her to anyone seeking a dependable and skilled caregiver.

Roxanne is amazing! She has worked so diligently with our family and our puppy's needs. Any problem we were having, she had a way to address it. The best part is, it works!! She has a miracle solution for every instance. Roxanne is always willing to listen and do what is best for the family and the dog. Her techniques are easy to follow and always positive! She has reassured our family that we are making progress and are doing what is best for our puppy. We have seen wonderful changes in our puppy and are excited to continue to work with Roxanne. :)

Our dog, Jack, was getting into trouble at the dog park. When other dogs tried to assert dominance over him, he would overreact, resulting in us leaving the dog park in disgrace. We enrolled in Mary's "Play2Train" class to give him some immersion into basic dog obedience. We have gone through three of these classes, and Jack has shown a great deal of improvement, not only in obeying my commands, but also in dealing with other dogs. I honestly think Mary spends more time training the owners than the dogs, and that is what makes the biggest difference. Jack and I are extremely grateful to Mary!

Hi, there! Animals are my passion and my career. I have my degree in animal science with specialization in nutrition, health, and animal behavior/training from the University of Minnesota. I have worked at a vet clinic for three years during college. I have experienced working at PetSmart for over a year as a groomer and in sales in guiding new pet parents along their exciting new journey. I also gained experience in caring for reptiles, avian animals, and small mammals for those clients looking for care for other pets at home. During my last two years in high school, I worked at a pet resort and excelled in daycare and boarding services. I just graduated from college and have a lot of energy and TLC to give to your pet, and I hope you consider me for your next pet sitter. Please feel free to text/call my cell, or contact me via my email as well; I will return your call/email very promptly. I am available overnights and have a very flexible schedule.

I'm just starting this business. I'm a 61 years young man who has a disability. My experience is that I've had a dog in my life since I was a young boy. I also had dogs since high school. I trained myself in dealing with obedience issues. I provide a firm and loving care without cruelty or mistreatment . They're just like my kids to me and I love them all unless they show me that they don't deserve that love and that has never happened.

With humane, science-based training methods, we will decide what you want your dog to do instead of focusing on what you don't want him doing. I am committed to using only humane, science-based training methods. My goal is to provide you with the tools you need to enjoy the dog you already love. Why use pain or fear-based methods when there are other options? When I work with a dog I go at their pace, watch for a goofy smile and wait for the dog to let me know when he is having fun. I hope to someday see the dog training industry say goodbye to scary and painful training tactics.

I am a one-person pet sitting/dog walking operation. I love animals, and I have many years of experience as a pet owner and volunteer with animal rescues. I volunteered for many years at the Animal Humane Society and currently volunteer with Secondhand Hounds, a no-kill rescue. I have cared for dogs, cats and horses as a pet sitter.

My daughter and I are available to do dog walking after 3:00 pm. We volunteer at the humane society and walk dogs. Serenity is 13 years old and very responsible. She has talked about wanting to be a veterinarian since the age of seven. We would do the dog walking together. Having a flexible schedule would be very helpful. Tina Chantler Zwaschka

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What does a dog walker do?

We all know our dogs love going on long, adventure-filled walks, but jobs and family and commuting can make it difficult to give them the leash time they deserve. You can hire a professional dog walker to make sure your furry friend gets adequate exercise and outdoor time each day. A professional dog walker may be an individual contractor or work for a dedicated dog-walking company. In either case, you want to make sure the pro has the appropriate insurance in case of an emergency. Some people opt to give the dog walker a key to their house; others to have them pick up the dog from the yard. Dog walking can happen as often as multiple times per day, or just a few times a month as needed. Here are some questions to ask when you are interviewing a new dog walker:

  • Will you or someone else be walking my dog?
  • Do you have a backup plan if you can’t make it for a scheduled walk?
  • Will you walk my dog by itself, or do you walk several dogs at once?
  • What are your different walk routes?
  • When will you pick up and drop off?
  • How will we communicate?
  • Do I have to commit to a schedule or are you flexible?
  • What’s your cancellation policy?
  • What’s your response plan if my dog gets injured or becomes sick?
  • How and how often do I pay you?
  • Do you offer package pricing if I buy multiple dog walks up front?

How much do dog walkers charge?

The cost of dog walking depends on several factors including length and frequency of dog walks, the number of dogs on the walk, distance to your house, and any additional services you request. The national average cost range for a dog walk is $10-$20, but that price will vary based on where you live in the country and the regional cost of living and doing business.

The longer the dog walk, the higher your costs will be. Dog walkers offer a range of walk lengths, from 15-minute potty breaks to long hikes of 120 minutes or more. For example, a dog walker may charge $15 for a 15-minute walk and $35 for a 35-minute walk. Requesting that your dog be the only animal on the walk will typically mean a higher cost than if you permit your dog to be walked in a pack of dogs. You may be able to get a discounted rate if you have more than one dog to be walked. For example, a professional dog walker may charge $28 for one dog or $33 for two dogs on a 60-minute walk. If you need additional help — like feeding the dogs or giving them medication — dog walkers may be able to provide this service at an additional fee. Dog walkers may charge higher rates for walking your dogs on holidays.
