The job was for 4 pieces of work. Some roofing, step railing and installation of an Egress window. It was difficult for me to find a contractor doing multiple pieces of work, and also one that would take on such a small project and deal with the particulars of my lender and third party agency. Scott was very nice and understood my delimma having worked with other agencies that require stipulations. Scott stayed in contact with me throughout my process even when the process seemed to be a little rigid and at times quite cumbersome. He could have turned down the job, but he didn't. He wanted to help me close on my home and so he stayed and for that I am grateful! When Scott and his crew came to do the work, they were very fast and efficient. I am in my new home and loving it. Thanks Scott & crew for everything!

Jason came out to look at our roof when several neighbors were going with a large "storm chaser" roofing company that was working our neighborhood. He was very honest and told me that our roof did not have significant damage and was not in need of replacement at this time. He was great and I know who I will be coming back to when we really are ready for a roof. Thanks Jason!

Joe was great to work with. It was a small roofing repair but I felt fortunate that he was willing to help me out so quickly, and he charged me less than his quoted price. Friendly, prompt service. Thanks Joe!

I hired Nick (Top Notch Roofing) and his team to reroof my house in September 2016. Overall I was satisfied with the job that was done. Nick is patient, creative, and committed to customer satisfaction. My project included working with a second company to insulate the roof at the same time that Nick's team was re-roofing my house. When the insulation company increased the scope of their work at the last minute, Nick was flexible to accommodate those changes. He also stepped up with a plan that would keep the project on time. There was minor damage to the inside of the house from the roofing work but Nick was accommodating in making those repairs. I received estimates from five roofing contractors and I found Top Notch Roofing to be price competitive. I recommend Top Notch Roofing. Nick takes pride in what he does. You will be well cared for.

Here's my overall experience with Kellington. 1. Chuck responded to my Thumbtack request within 15 minutes. 2. He was able to come over to visit my home for a free bid within two days. 3. He had the bid ready for me by the very next morning. 4. We scheduled it a couple of weeks out due to our availability 5. They said they will begin the work at 9am on a Monday 6. The day of work something came up and I coudn't stay home so I asked my in-laws if they could stay home for the contractors. 7. I was told that they showed up at 9am on the dot, said they could complete the work within 5-6 hours but actually finished everything including the cleanup in under 3.5 hrs and were gone by 12:30pm. 8. When I came home that evening, there was no way for me to know that someone was even there to do work except for the flawlessly repaired ceiling. Needless to say I am beyond impressed with their professionalism, honesty and punctuality and think that there is a small chance they just might be robots... LOL! Kidding aside, I wouldn't think twice before hiring them again and in fact, I have already asked Chuck if he could come by and give me a bid for another job.

A storm damaged my house roof and I needed temporary roof patch quickly before more rains came. I relieved to read Jim’s message say he could come out and patch my roof within a few hours. I check Eastern Roofing out several reviews online then the BBB, MN Business License and made sure he was insured. Everything was good, call the phone number it was Jim’s direct cell phone number. Jim came out and was able to patch my roof before it rained. There was no big sales pitch, but talking to him gave my confidence that he was a professional contactor. Jim worked with my insurance company, kept to his word and took the time to answer my questions. I was impressed with the quality of material that was used. The roofing crew did not just come and slap on a new roof, but took the time to install a great looking roof that I can be confident it will last for a long time.

My husband and I are extremely pleased with the work that Primo Restoration and Construction has provided for us. After meeting with a few other roofing contractors, I trusted and knew that Primo would be the right company for us. Juan Baltazar did an amazing job working with us and spent extra time meeting with our insurance adjuster, which was greatly appreciated. He made sure that we went into the job with no questions in our mind of the whole process and what was to be expected in the end. He took extra time to explain things, offered suggestions and opinions when they were asked and made sure that everything was done to our expectations. They finished the roof project ahead of schedule, the crew did excellent work, and everyone was very pleasant, considerate and professional. We are very happy with our new roof, it looks fantastic!

Jason was great! My roofing job was the kind most contractors run away from. (115+ year old house, 2 story, steeper than 12/12, four layers of roofing-3 asphalt,1 cedar, etc.) Jason took care of everything (including working with the Insurance adjuster to get coverage on some things they missed.) They left the work-site in immaculate condition. I'd recommend Northern Exteriors to friends and family and I'd use them again in a heartbeat!

Thorough and honest bid. Mark pointed out a couple things about the previous shingles and roof design (two vent systems cancelling each other out) that other contractors didn't point out. The singles that were on our house had a class action lawsuit and Carroll's Exterior helped file the claim for us. Installers were great and the roof looks amazing!

Jake at Goldstar Contracting re-sided my home. He remained professional at all times and took the time to understand exactly what I wanted done. He was always available when I had questions. He listened to what I wanted and in the end I LOVE my new siding. The work and materials is high quality and I do not have 1 complaint. The job was completed in 1 1/2 days. The crew was fast, clean and accomodating. I would recommend Gold Star Contracting to anyone and would use them again without a doubt.

I couldn't have been happier with my decision to work with TC West Metro. Todd was fantastic, quality work, made sure I knew what was happening with the project every step of the way. He took care of the siding, gutters, and the roof. I would highly recommend using this contractor.

Caleb was a pleasure to work with. He walked me through every step of removing the old wood siding and replacing it with my new steel siding, and a couple years earlier with a new roof. The entire roofing operation took him one day and left the area around my house spotless - not one nail! The siding job was equally impressive and in both jobs, the price was right! I highly recommend Oberg Roofing and Remodeling.

We’ve had Home Pro America provide service with several projects. After this last one we agreed to share our experience in this review of their work. We had an issue with ice dams, and had Home Pro out, their recommendations for air sealing, insulation and ventilation were a little more than we were planning to spend. We had another contractor out and for the attic air sealing, they recommended all the existing insulation be removed to seal the attic. We ended up hiring Home Pro and saved more than $1,000. We’ve since had our roof done and gutter covers installed. We would highly recommend Home Pro America.

I'm a general contractor who does kitchen and bathroom remodeling. I've worked with a lot of other subcontractors. This is my new roofing guy. Unlike some others that I have been burnt by CV Contracting did exactly what they said they would do and kept the price fair. I will use them again for sure.

Our home sustained significant damage in an August 2013 hail storm. We needed to replace the entire roof, the windows on the north side of our home, and all the gutters and downspouts. (The house also required painting, but we already had a different contractor lined up for that part of the project.) There were many storm chasers over many months calling and stopping by, eager for our business. Lakewoods Remodeling was recommended to us by a neighbor who had used them at a different time. Scott Rise was exceptional throughout the entire project. He proved to be a tremendous partner and advocate, often going to battle with our insurance company to be certain our house was returned to its pre-storm condition. Neither myself nor my husband are knowledgeable about the construction industry, but we learned very early on that we could trust Scott; he was truly looking out for our best interests. The initial insurance adjuster on our claim made significant errors and miscalculations and Scott worked directly with a successor adjuster to get everything corrected and agreed upon before the repair work began. Another neighbor complained to me about the contractor they were working with for their home repairs. She said that they were unresponsive and hard to get a hold of during the project. That was not the case with Lakewoods. Scott was always responsive and has exceptional follow-up skills. I rarely waited even 8 hours to hear back from him and he often communicated with me on the weekends. He even texted me from a funeral on one occasion, simply to let me know what was going on and when I could expect to hear back from him. The quality of the work has been very good and the various crews that were on our project were professional and respectful of our home. I can't think of a single situation working with Lakewoods where I was dissatisfied with any aspect of their work. There aren't ratings high enough for Lakewoods. Scott Rise did everything we could have hoped for from a contractor and more. We definitely will use Lakewoods for any future projects--large or small--and I highly recommend this company at every opportunity!

They did a good job, on time and for the price quoted. That's all you can really ask from a contractor as far as I'm concerned.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a standing seam metal roof?

A standing seam metal roof may be a strong, durable, safe choice when you’re considering metal roofing installation options. A standing seam refers to the raised seam where the sheet metal roofing panels join. Traditionally, shingles and roof panels lie flush to the roof, making them more prone to rust or penetration by water at their seams. In a standing seam metal roof, the raised (or standing) seams run vertically from the roof ridge to the eaves, with no horizontal seams. In addition, the fasteners joining the metal panels together are concealed, providing even fewer opportunities for water or moisture to build up. The cost to install a standing seam metal roof will depend on the type of metal you select, the size of your roof, and the cost of roofing labor in your region. Materials will play a major role in your metal roofing installation costs. If you select standard galvanized steel, the cost per square (100 square feet) might be in the $150-$300 range, while a high-end choice such as copper or zinc could be between $1,000 and $1,500 per square. Here is one example of cost:

  • Standing seam metal roof: $300 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000 or more.

Can a metal roof be installed over shingles?

Metal roofs are durable, environmentally friendly, safe and budget-friendly. If you’re considering an update, metal roofing installation doesn’t have to mean completely removing your old roof. In many cases, metal roofing can be installed over your existing shingles. Research building codes in your state, as many require that after two roofs have been installed, all roofing materials must be completely removed before a third roof can be put on. This protects your home’s structural integrity and your family’s safety. Carefully read contractor reviews and choose someone with extensive experience with metal roofing installation. One concern when installing metal over shingles is that over time, condensation can build on the shingles and cause the metal to rust. This will lead to rust around the panels, making them more likely to come loose in a storm. Nationally, the average cost for metal roofing installation ranges from $6,000 to $20,000. The wide price range represents different roof sizes, different types of metal, and the cost of labor in different parts of the country — and can also include the cost of removing an old shingle roof prior to installing the metal. As a line item, the average cost of removing an old roof to prepare for installing a new roof, plus adding new roof decking, costs on average about $45-$75 per square (the pro roofer’s term for 100 square feet), depending on the pitch of the roof. Always make sure you have a clearly written contract and a warranty on both the labor and the metal.

How much does it cost for a metal roof?

Metal roofing installation is an attractive option thanks to metal’s long lifespan, hardiness and fire-retardant properties. Nationally, the average cost for metal roofing installation ranges from $6,000 to $20,000.There are different types of metal roofs, each with their own installation needs and materials costs. Roof size also affects your metal roofing installation costs, as do regional labor rates. Roof size is measured in squares; one square equals 100 square feet. Here are some examples of the average cost for a metal roof:

  • Standard metal roof: $120-$150 per square to start, including materials and labor
    • A 30-square roof (a 3,000-square-foot roof) could cost between $3,600 and $4,500 for a typical three-bedroom home.
  • Snap-Loc metal roof: $200-$225 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $6,000-$6,750.
  • Standing seam metal roof: $300 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000 or more.
  • Tuff-Rib metal roof: $250-$350 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $7,500-$10,500.
  • Mid-range metal roof package, including all accessories: $300-$500 per square.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000-$15,000.
  • High-end metal roof package — such as zinc or copper — and all accessories: $1,000-$1,500 per square.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $30,000-$45,000.
