Introduction: I personally designed a studio set up for drum set lessons where there are two drum sets set up so I can play along with students. This is not normally the case at music stores and and other small studios. I have been playing drums and mallet instruments for over 30 years, and earned a Master's degree in Percussion Performance at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, so I have direct performing experience in almost all playing situations students may find themselves. I like the people. I enjoy connecting with students and seeing their musical progress.

Will is a versatile professional percussionist who happens also to be an exceptional teacher. For over three years, my 12-year-old grandson has been taking weekly drum lessons with Will and I have had the pleasure of sitting in on the lessons. I have, therefore, personally witnessed Will's talent in working with a young drummer. His collaborative approach puts the student at the center of the lesson, with Will providing skilled instruction on the intricacies of technique, introducing new styles of drumming, and continuously challenging his student to greater proficiency. The accent is always on the positive. I highly recommend Will for students of all ages. We have been so lucky to have him as an instructor for my grandson.

Will is an excellent teacher. He was able to engage my son, who can be shy, almost instantly. He is very good at identifying the crucial areas for improvement and guiding improvement without being judgmental. Saw an almost immediate improvement in attitude and drumming.

How did you get started doing this type of work?
I have always loved playing drum set and percussion, and my second year in college, when it was time to declare my major, I decided on a music major because playing and teaching music for a living appealed to me. That decision was affirmed through time as I played professionally in a rock band in the first years after undergrad, and then went back to school for a Masters in Percussion Performance.
What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
Consider background experience, the ability of the teacher to teach (not just be a great musician in his/her own right), and location.
