    Coon Rapids Piano

    (11 reviews)

Hi! My name is Amanda and I have been teaching private lessons since 2002. I teach piano lessons out of my home studio in Coon Rapids and also have some availability to travel to students home to teach. I love teaching little fingers to play the piano! I believe that everybody learns differently so there is no "cookie cutter" lesson plan with me. Your lessons will be tailored to your musical interests and style of learning. Young beginning piano students can expect to learn theory through games and coloring projects for example. I strive for a dynamic studio so that all involved have fun learning. You can read more about me and the studio at CoonRapidsPiano.com. I began piano in grade school and also studied piano with Dr. Jeanne Doty at the University of MN-Duluth while I was earning my bachelors degree in French horn performance. I also hold a master's degree from Wichita State University. I held the position of Assistant French Horn in the Wichita Symphony and have freelanced and subbed with numerous orchestras and groups in the midwest including the Duluth-Superior Symphony Orchestra.

My teaching is practical; more than by the book. I taught for 15 years before earning my degrees in music. When adjustments need to be made, we make them. And I don't take this too seriously. We're here to enjoy music most of all. If you don't love what you do, there's no point! The challenges that come with each unique personality I get to work with. It's never the same thing twice!

  • Piano Instruction

Eighty Eight Notes School of Music

    (6 reviews)

Our daughter, who is 9, is in her second year with Mellisa Weinert. We couldn't be more pleased! After starting lessons with Mellisa, our daughter has flourished musically and personally. The most amazing thing is that she goes to the piano herself to practice without any pushing or persuading! Through Mellisa, she has learned to love the piano and learned the value of a continuous, persistent work to reach a goal. Mellisa does this, in part, by motivating her pupils through fun activities / contests, etc. so that the practicing doesn't feel like a chore but something fun to do (yet with specific goals to achieve). Mellisa is very professional and, at the same time, a very warm and encouraging person. She also makes an effort to relate to a child within the child's psychological framework, tailoring the assignments and learning levels. Mellisa shares her enthusiasm for music with our child but with us as well! We couldn't be more pleased!

    StudioRoe

    (6 reviews)

My 12 & 15 year old sons took beginner guitar lessons with Rachel. I was impressed with what they learned and the price could not have been better. They were motivated and looked forward to their lessons. I liked how she set up the schedule in the beginning of the summer and provided options for any of our normal days that wouldn't work. I wish I had also signed another of my kids up for piano. I chose Rachel because the price was right and I wanted to gauge their interest levels. We will return to Rachel because the price is good AND she's a good music instructor who kept the kids motivated.

  • Piano Teaching Services

    Sounds of Music Studio

    (3 reviews)

We are now in Minnetonka near Highway 7 and 101. Music Moves for Piano is a new piano series that builds on Orff, Kodaly, Suzuki, and Dalcroze and applies Edwin E. Gordon's music learning theory into the teaching of piano. "Music learning theory" is the same as Gordon's "theories of audiation" and is a sequential learning process that guides students how to hear music with understanding. The music learning process is similar to the language learning model of listen, speak/perform, think/improvise, read, and write. The purpose is to help students learn how to audiate and how to play the piano. The method provides a solid foundation for developing music literacy. Music Moves for Piano level 1 is for ages 6 and up. Each lesson is a unit which includes: - Lesson time objectives. This overview of the lesson communicates to parents and students what was covered at the lesson and lists home practice and listening assignments. - Song to sing. Class activities familiarize students with the 'songs to sing' through movement and singing, since they will be performance pieces later. Students learn that if they can sing it, they can play it. - Improvisation projects. Many beginning unit pages include short improvisation or creative projects. - Performance piece(s) and/or scales, cadences, and arpgeggios. Keyboard Games are for ages 4-6. Keyboard games is great for transitioning children, kindergarten, and other beginners. - The game-like pieces are short, in contrasting character, and in both duple and triple meters. Students become acquainted with the full range of the keyboard. Many pieces have duet parts. - Students learn proper alignment of the playing mechanism. Students are encouraged to be aware of how they produce sound. - Improvisation activities are an integral part of the book. Students learn to choose register, dynamics, and meter. They also write stories for which they create short, descriptive pieces. All piano classes are group-based instruction. Research has proven that children, especially beginners, learn much from each other, and they have tons more fun as well! Class sizes are from 2-5 children for "music moves and keyboard games." "Music play early childhood music program" is for ages birth through 4 years old. The locations are in Chanhassen and Minnetonka. Music development begins at birth, if not in utero. Young children learn music by listening to and playing with sounds and movements that are provided and encouraged by the adults in their lives. The goal is to help children enhance their music aptitudes through listening, singing, chanting, and moving with others. "Music play" is a great preparation for later instrumental or vocal instruction. The curriculum is based on the research of renowned music educator Dr. Edwin E. Gordon. His music learning theory (see the GIML website) explains how we learn to understand and think in music through audiation, like thinking in language. For homeschool groups: As a licensed music educator, I can tailor a music education program for any age group, which includes children or youth choir, beginning band and instrumental instruction, and general music. The curriculum is developmentally appropriate and sequentially based on "Gordon's music learning theory." Please do not call if you are looking for a director for a children's musical.
