Melissa has been my fitness trainer for the past 10 months. I am in her exercise classes 3x weekly, and I have also participated in two 12-week challenges with her. She is very knowledgeable about both physical training and nutrition. She challenges us to do our best, but always provides alternatives for anyone with an injury or other condition. We have both men and women in our classes, a wide range of ages and fitness levels, and everybody gets a great workout in every class. I am not the most fit person, and I really appreciate that she often modifies a workout so that I am able to participate fully, even if I am sometimes unable to completely do some exercises. Melissa has been a very good coach for the 12 week challenges, as she knows a lot about nutrition as well as exercise. She is very organized, and encourages us to plan and prep all our meals. She provides menus, recipes, organizational tips, even coaches us through our vacations and celebrations which tend to derail our best intentions. She understands this and helps pull us through the lapses to get back on track. During the time I have been training with Melissa, I have lost 17.5 pounds and dropped 8.2% body fat. I am stronger, have more energy and look much better now too. If you’re looking for a trainer who is friendly and understanding but one who will challenge you wherever you are on the fitness scale, I highly recommend Melissa Jansen.

I have been fortunate to train with Defiance Training, LLC through the Health At Work program at CSB/SJU. Melissa has provided vigorous classes varying in cardio, strength (hand weights/body weight), HIIT - you name it, I've probably done it. Her workouts are for ALL levels and include modifications to movements that accommodate fitness level, injuries, arthritis, etc. She is kind and compassionate and will listen to you and help you through the workout. We laugh, have fun and we work hard. I've gone from attending one class per week to 3 classes per week. My overall strength and endurance is at point I never thought was possible for someone my age (48 years young!). I've also participated in "challenges" where, through Melissa's coaching, handouts and advice, I've learned about clean eating, making healthier choices, meal prep/menu planning, overcome food and weight obstacles, setting goals and achieving them, how to factor in food/drink that I enjoy into my everyday meal plan and how to lose weight and keep it off. Today, I've lost nearly 30lbs and have never felt better. My confidence is up - I look and feel younger than I actually am. I make more meals at home and eat-out less (saving money!). My energy is up. I am able to sleep at night without taking something. I have bettered my well-being by eating healthier, making better choices and working out. I honestly would not be where I am today without Defiance Training. Thank you!!

This isn't your ordinary workout. It's open, inviting and you never feel out of place. Everyone is at all different levels and Missy is an expert with this. If a modification is needed she'll have it. You'll never feel disappointed joining defiance!
