Jerrie was a pet sitter for my chihuahua Milo for years. She also would even house sit for me, and take care of him and my home when I was out of town. She was so patient with him despite him taking a long time to warm up to new people, he bonded with her right away. Jerrie is so natural with animals and such a kind and caring person. She goes above and beyond to send you updates, pictures, and even keeps a detailed notebook about how your dog does each time she dog sits and what activities they do (walking, playing, feeding). I trusted her completely to care for my dog and would recommend her to anyone looking for a caring, reliable and responsive pet sitter.

Christine took wonderful care of my cat while I was away on a European vacation for 10 days. She met and exceeded my expectations for the care of my pet. It was evident on my return that she had brushed and played with my cat, and kept in contact with any questions or concerns throughout the whole process which was a big ease to my mind.

In a word... WOW! Finally, I have found a team that does what they say and do it well. I can not say enough good things. Angela picked up my dogs, asked the right questions, listened to my requests, did what was discussed and exceeded my expectations. I am not the type of person to ever write a review be a good or bad so for this being one of the one and only reviews I've ever written trust me when I say that they are on point. Feel free to trust them with your pets! I DO!

Rita made a big difference to my family by helping our beloved pet heal from the trauma he experienced as a puppy mill dog prior to me adopting him. Rita massaged the anxiety out of my precious little cairn terrier - Little Doodles wagged and wagged as soon as he knew he was getting to see Rita.

Debbie is a sweet, loving caregiver. She's been with our new puppy for a few days now...Lucy, our pup, really likes her and she even texts me with updates about her crate (wet or dry). I would nightly recommend Debbie for your pet care needs.

I have never left my dogs with anyone but family. After Karen came over for an interview (?) I was impressed with how much my two dogs liked her and wanted to crowd around her. She has stayed with them twice and the first time I admit I thought about the dogs some, but when I returned they were totally happy and I had no reservations about the second time -felt totally comfortable and had no worries. I like the way she leaves notes to tell me how the dogs were and acted. My little Cairn Terrier even set by her during the last visit which is unusual for her. I had her come over 4 times a day to feed, let out and walk my dogs. I have recommended her to a couple of my friends. Would have been above perfect if the yard had been picked up of the waste when she had the dogs out in the yard, but did not ask her to do this nor do i know of anyone who does. I would be willing to recommend her to anyone. I totally believe in Playful Paw Pet Care Services.

Ali from At Home Pet Care came into our home twice a day to care for our dog and two cats. She had to give medicine to the dog, feed the animals, walk the dog and bring in the mail. She left notes every day, left the kitchen quite clean and our animals were in great shape when we returned. One of the cats is pretty skittish and previous times, we have heard that the pet sitter hasn't seen much of him. Ali was able to entice Bilbo out of hiding and even pet him - I was surprised and grateful that she took the time to work at that. We are thrilled with At Home Pet Care's service and recommend them highly!

Jessica has taken care of my two dogs (German Shorthair Pointer and Goldendoodle) for over five years. She has done everything for me: Dog walking, let outs, feeding, sitting, medication...you name it. The dogs adore her and go absolutely nuts every time she comes over! I trust her implicitly with both my dogs and my home. Her communication and availability has been excellent. If you are looking for a person who will love you pet as much (or more) than you do....she is the perfect person for the job!

I wanted to send a quick message to let you know how pleased I was with Shelly this past weekend. She really showed great concern and care for my 6 cats and was very descriptive in her emails to me while I was away on holiday. By far, she has been the best pet sitter I’ve had. I would really like to keep using her from here on out as the pet sitter for my cats. My cats really liked her and she just took such good care of them. Please, if it’s possible I really want to keep Shelly as my pet sitter from here on out. It was a great experience and I knew from the “get go” upon meeting her, my cats were in excellent hands with her. I am truly a satisfied and happy client!

Taara did an excellent job with my long-haired chihuahua, Jax. We never used a pet sitter with him before and were quite worried he would not be very easy to watch. When we went to meet her, she was outside with her dogs. My dog is very vocal when he is scared and he did just that, but Taara just reached out, and scooped him up. She held him close and comforted him. At that moment I knew he would do fine with her. After dropping him off, she kept us informed with texts and pics of him throughout his stay. He actually made friends with an Aussie she was watching. She also had a spa day with a doggy massage and nail trim ( she asked if it was okay first). When we picked him up, he actually kissed her goodbye, on the nose, while I was holding him (that has never happened, he is very protective of us) Taara is a very caring and loving towards animals. She is very knowledgeable and I highly recommend her as a pet sitter and I definitely will use her again! 👍👍👍

I can highly recommend Michelle! We have used her services for pet and house sitting for our 12 year old shepherd mix and 10 year old St. Bernard ... to which both were rescues. Michelle has stayed at our house for as short as one overnight and as long as one week. She has administered meds and has been compliant when separate feedings were needed. Typically, she sends a picture every couple of days and we return with notes from each day's activities. She has done a great job for us and I would highly recommend her services.

I had to find a sitter for my 2 dogs and my cat and had to find one in a short period of time. Cody responded within 24 hours and watched my animals from Friday-Monday. He responded very quickly especially when I needed one on such a short notice, and he was very polite and I could tell how much he loved animals. He did a wonderful job taking care of my babies, and I will be using him whenever I need a sitter for my animals from now on, and I will also be referring him to any of my friends that need a pet sitter. If you want a reliable person and a person who gives your animals lots of love and attention, he will not let you down!

I heard about Cameron through friends. I was very emotional wondering if I may need to give up my Great Pyrenees. I could not get him to obey commands. He had run away and I almost lost him. I took him to see Cameron. Cameron listened to my issues and totally understood. He was very caring and knowledgeable about my situation. He taught me how to treat my dog in a way that made him want to please me. His technique is kind, firm and effective. He really knows and understands dogs. I highly recommend Cameron for anyone who truly wants the best for their pets.

About

I learned to cook in my mother's kitchen in the 1950's and '60's. I carry all of her recipes with me today that she kept on 3x5 index cards. As an adult, I traveled the world as a global radio executive. I was privileged to dine in on some of the finest cuisine served by some of the most renowned chefs. I was never shy about asking for recipes and cooking techniques wherever I went. Over nearly 4 decades, I have learned to prepare a variety of some of the most sumptuous dishes you can imagine.

About

I love animals and I love being outside, so dog walking is something I enjoy. I also love playing with animals.

About

Our family loves pets, and we truly enjoy the company of visiting pets. We will treat your pet as we would our own and have fun spoiling them a little, too. All of our family pets (dogs) are used to having visitors. We have a Golden Doodle named Kira and have never not had a family dog(s) and/or other various pets. We would love to pamper your pet. Just tell us their preferences, likes, dislikes, etc. and we will make them feel loved and right at home. (The only requirement is that your pet not be a cat.) We only do sitting at our home-unless you are within 5 miles. Thanks for looking. We will anxiously await your call!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is included in a dog grooming?

Dog grooming is so much more than giving your dog a bath. Dog grooming is a broad term that covers all aspects of canine cleanliness and hygiene. The services included in dog grooming will vary based on your needs and what you choose to pay. Unless they are rolling in cowpies or playing in mud puddles, most dogs are okay getting a shampoo bath only as needed. You’ll know when they need it if they smell bad or are bringing dirt into the house. Some dogs, like shepherds and shih tzus, have thick coats that can get matted and tangled without regular care. Pro dog groomers can deftly blow dry a dog’s hair after a bath so that it is shiny and smooth. Dog grooming can include brushing that detangles dog hair and also thins the undercoat to minimize shedding.

Dog grooming also includes hygiene services such as toothbrushing and ear cleaning. Clean teeth are important to the health of your dog, and the pros have the patience and proper technique to get it done. Regular dog grooming can stave off tear stains, those reddish stains below your dog’s eyes. Anal gland expression is something not many people want to do on their own, even if they love their dog. A dog groomer can safely and efficiently release any blocked anal gland fluid. Other dog grooming services include nail trimming and clipping. Nationally, dog grooming prices range from $60 to $80. Most dog groomers offer discounts to customers who purchase monthly packages or bundle multiple grooming services at one time.

What does a dog walker do?

We all know our dogs love going on long, adventure-filled walks, but jobs and family and commuting can make it difficult to give them the leash time they deserve. You can hire a professional dog walker to make sure your furry friend gets adequate exercise and outdoor time each day. A professional dog walker may be an individual contractor or work for a dedicated dog-walking company. In either case, you want to make sure the pro has the appropriate insurance in case of an emergency. Some people opt to give the dog walker a key to their house; others to have them pick up the dog from the yard. Dog walking can happen as often as multiple times per day, or just a few times a month as needed. Here are some questions to ask when you are interviewing a new dog walker:

  • Will you or someone else be walking my dog?
  • Do you have a backup plan if you can’t make it for a scheduled walk?
  • Will you walk my dog by itself, or do you walk several dogs at once?
  • What are your different walk routes?
  • When will you pick up and drop off?
  • How will we communicate?
  • Do I have to commit to a schedule or are you flexible?
  • What’s your cancellation policy?
  • What’s your response plan if my dog gets injured or becomes sick?
  • How and how often do I pay you?
  • Do you offer package pricing if I buy multiple dog walks up front?

What is a dog groomer?

A dog groomer is a service professional who provides dog grooming and basic hygiene care for your dog. Dog groomers are typically animal lovers who are competent and comfortable working with a wide range of dog breeds and temperaments. Dog groomers are knowledgeable about the care needs for different kinds of dog coats. A poodle will have different haircut needs than a shih tzu, for example, so it pays to have a trained pro provide the proper cut. Good dog groomers know how to safely clean your dog’s teeth, bathe your dog, and cut their nails without going too short. They understand how to trim the hair from around your dog’s face, express anal glands, and clean your dog’s ears. Many people who choose dog grooming as a profession also pursue other dog services such as attending veterinary school, running a doggy day care center, working as a professional dog walker, and more.

What is a dog groomer?

Keep your family dogs happy, healthy and clean with regular dog grooming. A dog groomer is a business owner or employee of a dog grooming business who specializes in dog hygiene and grooming. To find a reputable dog groomer, research reviews, ask for references and confirm that the groomer has good standing in the dog grooming community.

A dog groomer should be comfortable and competent working with dogs of all breeds and temperaments. Typically a groomer will have trained with other groomers and taken educational courses to keep abreast of the latest safety information and techniques. There are brick-and-mortar dog grooming businesses, as well as mobile dog groomers who bring all their equipment and provide their services at your home or location. In some cases, brick-and-mortar businesses will also pick up and return your dog for an additional fee.

What vaccines do dogs need to be groomed?

It’s important to make sure your dog is up to date on its vaccines before taking it to a groomer. Vaccinations keep your dog and the other dogs that use the establishment healthy. Viruses can linger long after a dog is gone, so an unvaccinated dog can infect a number of other dogs days or even months after their visit. Find out about your dog groomer’s vaccination policies, and think carefully about receiving services from a company that does not require vaccinations. Here are the main vaccinations that are generally required for dog grooming:

  • Parvovirus: Parvo is a nasty virus that can kill dogs within 48-72 hours of infection. The virus is incredibly persistent and, according to the American Veterinary Medical Association, is resistant to heat, cold, humidity and drying. It’s spread by dog-to-dog contact or contact with contaminated feces, environments (food and water bowls, collars and leashes, etc.,) or people.
  • Adenovirus 2: Dogs receive this vaccination to protect against canine infectious hepatitis. The vaccination can also helps prevent canine cough.
  • Canine distemper virus: Distemper has no known cure and can cause serious pain, illness, and even death, although recovery is possible with medical intervention.
  • Rabies: This disease attacks the central nervous system and — when untreated — will
  • lead to death. The CDC recommends euthanizing an unvaccinated animal that has been exposed to rabies, although six-month isolation followed by vaccination is also permissible.
  • Para-influenza: Canine para-influenza leads to kennel cough and an unhappy dog.
