Jerrie Rimas babysat my cat Abigail. Truly, she is my baby - and we were going to be gone for a week. She has become very spoiled so I was worried. Jerrie gave her such loving attention and time. She kept me updated each day with pictures. Very heartwarming to be driving in the car and see my girl! Thank you for everything.

Christine took wonderful care of my cat while I was away on a European vacation for 10 days. She met and exceeded my expectations for the care of my pet. It was evident on my return that she had brushed and played with my cat, and kept in contact with any questions or concerns throughout the whole process which was a big ease to my mind.

Rita made a big difference to my family by helping our beloved pet heal from the trauma he experienced as a puppy mill dog prior to me adopting him. Rita massaged the anxiety out of my precious little cairn terrier - Little Doodles wagged and wagged as soon as he knew he was getting to see Rita.

Debbie is a sweet, loving caregiver. She's been with our new puppy for a few days now...Lucy, our pup, really likes her and she even texts me with updates about her crate (wet or dry). I would nightly recommend Debbie for your pet care needs.

I am so thankful that I found Karen and Playful Paw Pet Care Services! When I returned to work full time, I worried that my newly rescued pug, Oscar, would be crated for 10+ hours when I couldn't get home right after work. Instead, Karen comes to my house, takes Oscar for a nice long walk, sits and pets him for a short time before leaving. Karen leaves me note telling me about the dogs they met while walking or if Oscar was particularly cute that day. :) Karen is great to work with and flexible, I trust her in my home and with my dog (and cat, when he comes out of hiding). I highly recommend Karen and Playful Paw Pet Care!

Tonisa was fantastic! We are homebodies so don't have to worry about leaving our dog, but we had the opportunity to go out of the country and I had to find someone to take care of my dog. I found Tonisa through a Google search. We emailed a couple of times and I met her once. My dog instantly liked her and so did I. Tonisa stayed at our house and took care of my dog for 12 days. I trusted her totally! There were no problems, she kept me updated on day to day activities and my house was just as clean when I got home as when I left. I highly recommend Tonisa if you want to leave your precious pet at home instead of having to put them in a kennel.

Ali from At Home Pet Care came into our home twice a day to care for our dog and two cats. She had to give medicine to the dog, feed the animals, walk the dog and bring in the mail. She left notes every day, left the kitchen quite clean and our animals were in great shape when we returned. One of the cats is pretty skittish and previous times, we have heard that the pet sitter hasn't seen much of him. Ali was able to entice Bilbo out of hiding and even pet him - I was surprised and grateful that she took the time to work at that. We are thrilled with At Home Pet Care's service and recommend them highly!

Taara did an excellent job with my long-haired chihuahua, Jax. We never used a pet sitter with him before and were quite worried he would not be very easy to watch. When we went to meet her, she was outside with her dogs. My dog is very vocal when he is scared and he did just that, but Taara just reached out, and scooped him up. She held him close and comforted him. At that moment I knew he would do fine with her. After dropping him off, she kept us informed with texts and pics of him throughout his stay. He actually made friends with an Aussie she was watching. She also had a spa day with a doggy massage and nail trim ( she asked if it was okay first). When we picked him up, he actually kissed her goodbye, on the nose, while I was holding him (that has never happened, he is very protective of us) Taara is a very caring and loving towards animals. She is very knowledgeable and I highly recommend her as a pet sitter and I definitely will use her again! 👍👍👍

I have been thoroughly impressed by Paw Print Pet Sitting. Both the office staff Laura and my Pet Sitter, Shelly, have been nothing but courteous and friendly in every interaction I’ve had with them. I feel confident when I leave my furry babies in Shelly care that they will get not just essentials like water and food, but also genuine affection and play time. The fact that Paw Print Pet Sitting is insured gave me peace of mind to start working with them, but Shelly has been incredibly professional and I felt right away that she’d make a good fit. We live in Minneapolis, I really like that my Petsitter lives nearby, another neat aspect that Paw Print Pet Sitting does. The prices are very fair for the time and tasks involved, and every time I have a sit done, I get video updates along with texts as to how everything went. I know it’s a bit scary choosing someone to care for your four-footed children, but I can say I’d confidently recommend these folks to anyone in the Twin Cities area. Laura clearly puts her heart into her business, and I couldn’t be happier that I gave Paw Print Pet Sitting a chance. Looking forward to many more sits in the future!

Jenny is a professional pet care provider. She does an excellent job taking care of our two dogs and two cats. When we interviewed her she had a lot of questions for us about our pets, she really wanted to get to know them. We have a new puppy and Jenny wanted to know the all the verbal and non-verbal commands to help him pass level 1ASPCA training.

Jenny gives my dogs (which I treat as my children) the best care possible every time I call upon her to be there to provide care for them. I believe what makes Jenny the best is she has pets of her own and treats all pets under her care as if they were hers. I started using her to watch my pets at my home where she would stop in 3 times daily and it has now progressed for my longer trips to where she watches them at her home conveniently located in Golden Valley which has ample space and a beautiful large fenced back yard for my dogs to play in. A+ rating and I highly recommend using Jenny for your dog/cat care needs.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What does a dog walker do?

We all know our dogs love going on long, adventure-filled walks, but jobs and family and commuting can make it difficult to give them the leash time they deserve. You can hire a professional dog walker to make sure your furry friend gets adequate exercise and outdoor time each day. A professional dog walker may be an individual contractor or work for a dedicated dog-walking company. In either case, you want to make sure the pro has the appropriate insurance in case of an emergency. Some people opt to give the dog walker a key to their house; others to have them pick up the dog from the yard. Dog walking can happen as often as multiple times per day, or just a few times a month as needed. Here are some questions to ask when you are interviewing a new dog walker:

    • Will you or someone else be walking my dog?
    • Do you have a backup plan if you can’t make it for a scheduled walk?
    • Will you walk my dog by itself, or do you walk several dogs at once?
    • What are your different walk routes?
    • When will you pick up and drop off?
    • How will we communicate?
    • Do I have to commit to a schedule or are you flexible?
    • What’s your cancellation policy?
    • What’s your response plan if my dog gets injured or becomes sick?
    • How and how often do I pay you?
    • Do you offer package pricing if I buy multiple dog walks up front?

What is included in a dog grooming?

Dog grooming is so much more than giving your dog a bath. Dog grooming is a broad term that covers all aspects of canine cleanliness and hygiene. The services included in dog grooming will vary based on your needs and what you choose to pay. Unless they are rolling in cowpies or playing in mud puddles, most dogs are okay getting a shampoo bath only as needed. You’ll know when they need it if they smell bad or are bringing dirt into the house. Some dogs, like shepherds and shih tzus, have thick coats that can get matted and tangled without regular care. Pro dog groomers can deftly blow dry a dog’s hair after a bath so that it is shiny and smooth. Dog grooming can include brushing that detangles dog hair and also thins the undercoat to minimize shedding.

Dog grooming also includes hygiene services such as toothbrushing and ear cleaning. Clean teeth are important to the health of your dog, and the pros have the patience and proper technique to get it done. Regular dog grooming can stave off tear stains, those reddish stains below your dog’s eyes. Anal gland expression is something not many people want to do on their own, even if they love their dog. A dog groomer can safely and efficiently release any blocked anal gland fluid. Other dog grooming services include nail trimming and clipping. Nationally, dog grooming prices range from $60 to $80. Most dog groomers offer discounts to customers who purchase monthly packages or bundle multiple grooming services at one time.

    What is a dog groomer?

Keep your family dogs happy, healthy and clean with regular dog grooming. A dog groomer is a business owner or employee of a dog grooming business who specializes in dog hygiene and grooming. To find a reputable dog groomer, research reviews, ask for references and confirm that the groomer has good standing in the dog grooming community.

A dog groomer should be comfortable and competent working with dogs of all breeds and temperaments. Typically a groomer will have trained with other groomers and taken educational courses to keep abreast of the latest safety information and techniques. There are brick-and-mortar dog grooming businesses, as well as mobile dog groomers who bring all their equipment and provide their services at your home or location. In some cases, brick-and-mortar businesses will also pick up and return your dog for an additional fee.

    What is a dog groomer?

A dog groomer is a service professional who provides dog grooming and basic hygiene care for your dog. Dog groomers are typically animal lovers who are competent and comfortable working with a wide range of dog breeds and temperaments. Dog groomers are knowledgeable about the care needs for different kinds of dog coats. A poodle will have different haircut needs than a shih tzu, for example, so it pays to have a trained pro provide the proper cut. Good dog groomers know how to safely clean your dog’s teeth, bathe your dog, and cut their nails without going too short. They understand how to trim the hair from around your dog’s face, express anal glands, and clean your dog’s ears. Many people who choose dog grooming as a profession also pursue other dog services such as attending veterinary school, running a doggy day care center, working as a professional dog walker, and more.

How much does it cost to groom a dog?

Dog grooming costs depend on the service your pet requires. Nationally, the average price for dog grooming ranges from $40 to $100, varying by location. Not surprisingly, dog grooming on New York’s Upper East Side costs nearly double what it costs in a small town in Montana. Dog groomers typically handle every aspect of your dog’s beauty and hygiene, from tooth brushing to hairstyling. One potential way to save is to have your dog groomed at your doggy daycare — sometimes they offer discounts on dog grooming prices for clients. Here are some examples of average dog grooming costs in the San Francisco Bay Area. Please note these prices would include transportation fees for picking up and dropping off your dog to your home:

    • Nails: $30 a la carte or $20 when bundled with another service
    • Toothbrushing: $30 a la carte or $20 when bundled with another service
    • Tooth scraping (removal of plaque from teeth to prevent infection), with anesthesia: $600
    • Tooth scraping, without anesthesia: $400.
    • Wash and dry: $60
    • Ears: $30 a la carte or $20 when bundled with another service
    • Grooming package: $130 — includes wash, nails, teeth, ears, gland expression and haircut
