Nick was an absolutely amazing person to work with. From the first meeting to the final video he was professional, timely, and just made the experience wonderful. My husband and I were planning the wedding from out of state and Nick just worked with us and our schedules and made sure that no matter what the time difference was, to make sure that we felt heard and at ease. The day of our wedding he just made it so much fun! Everyone loved him and most people forgot that he was even carrying a video camera. The video itself turned out perfect and was everything we could have asked for. The memories that he captured we can’t say enough about. Thank you Nick for giving us such a great treasure to remember our day.

Tom told us what he would do and he did it! We barely knew he was there during the ceremony and reception and afterwards he made an extra effort to get us the video and photos before he went on vacation. I would recommend him to anyone.

We are a solar panel installation company out of St. Paul that has performed hundreds of installations through out the state. We hired Chris to take pictures of some of our recent installations for our website and other marketing materials. Chris was quick to respond to our Thumbtack posting and was great to communicate with. He was very flexible and easy to work with. We spent the day driving around the state going to different installs for the photos. He was willing and able to get on top of roofs to get the perfect shots. He was very easy to work with and offered great pricing. We plan to hire Chris again for future shoots.

very easy to work with and quick to respond, also very good value compared to other videographers! the reason I am doing 4/5 is because the ending of our dance got cut off by the camera, so some of our last moves are not visible. it is not a huge deal, and the video overall turned out great. he did a beautiful intro for me that included one of our wedding decorations. they also allowed me to review the video and ask for any changes. I would recommend!!

Cloud Media created a video for my company that actually blew my mind it was so well done. It was amazing. When I first talked to the company about doing a promotional video, I really didn't know what to expect. I'm not a photogenic person and was thinking I needed an actor or someone more experienced doing the narrating. They took all the video and pieces at different times without interrupting schedules or making it inconvenient. With all these pieces, I was expecting bits and pieces of video (which I did get). But the ending product was actually an incredible 4 minute video featuring myself, my employees and the business. It represents the business perfectly. Absolutely perfectly. I have showed it over and over to people and have watched it over and over. It actually made me feel proud of the company I produced, and for that I give a shout out and a monster thank you. The amazing part is that the pricing is so worth it. I'll be putting the video on our new website in May and I play it at the business groups I attend. This is actually a fun experience and the end result is crazy good.

Mike did such a fantastic job as our videographer for our wedding. I ended up deciding just 2 weeks before the wedding that I had to have a videographer and used this website. He contacted me immediately and we were able to move forward with the contract within the same day. Mike came very prepared in knowing exactly what I wanted and to get all the right shots. I for sure wanted the ceremony, speeches, and first dances, and he did that plus every other detail from our wedding day. He worked very closely with our photographer which helped everything go smooth. Mike was very timely in getting us our highlight video, full feature video, and even some fun outtakes. He even sent us a link to our video as well as DVDs. Seriously everything is perfect and I know that we will cherish this video forever. If you are looking for someone who will make your day extra special, go with Mike!!

Al Maruggi is, without question, the best, most professional, videographer I have ever worked with. Al was responsible for 100% of the sound, set, lighting, videography, complex post-production editing, and FCPX and Motion 5 work for my extraordinarily complex 3-hour "light board" instructional video — and I could not be more thrilled with the outcome. He listened carefully to what my goals were, and then engineered the entire videography process, from initial conception and design, through set work, filming, editing, and post production, straight through to final product playing for me on my own computer. At every step, Al used clear and responsive communication to guide me to decisions that would lead to the highest possible quality product. "You're a well-respected author," he told me more than once. "This has got to be absolutely perfect." I contrast this with other videographers who would come to my events, do a video shoot, and hand me raw video on a thumb drive that I never knew what to do with. Never ONCE did Al leave me hanging, having to make decisions I don't feel qualified to make. He always took me to the next step I needed to make my project perfect. Now I have something that families gladly pay $199 to purchase, and I am proud of it. Whether you need instructional video, corporate video, outdoor/artsy video, or sales and commercial video, I suggest you talk to Al. If you live outside of Minnesota, I suggest you FLY here to work with him. Highest possible recommendation. Five stars. The video Morgan made of my son's wedding was wonderful. She really paid attention to the bride and groom's wishes, and captured so many unique and special moments. I had been wishing I could relive the day, and Morgan made it so, in just a few minutes of video. The videographers were so easy to work with, professional, and friendly. The video really exceeded our expectations, and we will cherish it.

I highly recommend MccDrew. I used MccDrew’s video production services for multiple corporate videos projects. Initially, MccDrew was involved with the marketing and executive teams in the creative development of the video series. Once the strategy was finalized, MccDrew’s team created the video series based on the strategic direction. The videos were strategically on target, on time and on budget. The series was very well received by the audience. In addition to the video production, MccDrew also managed a LiveStream broadcast for our largest corporate event. I would use their services again and highly recommend MccDrew.

Looking back, having this video is the best part about our whole day. Scott did such an amazing job on our video! It is so beautifully done and so much better than I could have ever imagined. We, along with all of our family and friends, were highly impressed with the quality of his work. I would highly recommend him to anyone as he did just an extraordinary job on our wedding video.

We hired Doyle to take over our Raw Videography package for a wedding we were serving as we had other duties on that day. He was genuine and very easy to work with plus took time to talk and ask questions to learn what we expected. After the first hour we were all at ease knowing and trusting that he would do the job right and take care of our customers. The footage was sharp and unique and told the story of the wedding day. He also had redundant equipment to ensure footage was taken and saved during the critical ceremony period. Overall the experience was better than expected. We will be calling him again for future projects.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a videographer and what do they do?

A videographer professionally films weddings and other events and edits the footage to create film keepsakes or marketing materials for their clients. Wedding videographers record all the key elements of your wedding day, ceremony and reception, and then edit the hours of film during post-production to make a wedding video, social media highlight reels, and any other film features you choose. Wedding videography captures, in live action, your vows, the cake-cutting, the first dance, reception toasts, the decor, the guests and all the details of your day. Many wedding videographers also interview guests (based on an interview list provided by the couple) and incorporate the recorded responses into the wedding video. Event videography typically costs less than wedding videography, as events are shorter with less detail. The national average cost for event videography is $500-$760, while the national average cost for wedding videography is $990-$1,260. A videographer usually does not need to be licensed, but it is important to confirm they have insurance and good standing in the business community, as well as good client reviews. A great majority of the work happens during post-production. The pros watch and blend together the hours of footage they took (sometimes from multiple cameras) to capture the story of your wedding day or event.

How do you choose a wedding videographer?

A wedding videographer will create a lifetime memory for you from edited video footage of your wedding day, ceremony and reception. Choosing a wedding videographer starts with looking online at portfolios of their past work. There’s no need to talk to anyone unless you love what you see. Next, make sure they have good reviews and past client experience; don’t be shy about asking for references if there aren’t any posted online. When you find someone who has a style you love, ask if they are available on your wedding day. If so, it’s time to talk pricing. Be clear about your maximum budget, and ask what kind of packages they offer. Pricing will depend on the number of crew needed for filming, the hours they are required to be onsite, post-production editing, and the length of the final product. Talk with several wedding videographers to get a feel for what prices are like in your region. Nationally, the average cost for wedding videography ranges between $990 and $1,260 per event. Once you agree on a product and have a plan, get everything in a written and signed contract. Clearly state the details of what is expected for your wedding day and from the final product. Be prepared to pay a deposit to reserve their services for the day, then pay the remainder upon receiving the video.

What should you ask your wedding videographer before hiring?

Finding the perfect wedding videographer doesn’t have to be stressful. Asking a few key questions upfront will help you find the right fit for your big day. Before talking with wedding videographers, research their work online. Look at their websites, business profiles and social media, and see what their finished wedding videos look like. If the style fits what you’re envisioning, it’s time to reach out. During initial contact, make sure you get along with the person. This is important since they’ll be interacting with you and your guests.

Your first question should be about their availability; there’s no point in going further if they’re booked on your wedding day. Ask to see references if they’re not readily available online. Next, it’s time to talk about money. Ask how they determine rates or what kind of packages they offer. When you settle on a rate and the services you want, make sure to have a written contract that outlines everything, including cost, length of time they film, what post-production will include, and when you can expect to receive the edited project.

When do you pay your wedding videographer and wedding photographer?

Most wedding videographers and photographers require a set deposit when you hire them. Wedding season is a busy time and a deposit secures that vendor’s services for your wedding date. It also protects the vendor if the couple changes their mind at the last minute, and they can’t find a new booking and lose work for the day. The deposit may be anywhere from 20 percent to  50 percent of the agreed-upon total price. Always get a written confirmation that your deposit has been received.

The remainder of the wedding videography and photography bill may be due in the week before to your wedding or on the day of the wedding. Other vendors may require a second payment immediately before the wedding and a third and final payment after the wedding video or photos are delivered. Each vendor has their own policies, so before hiring be sure to read, understand and agree to payment protocols. There is no requirement for tipping wedding videographers or photographers, but if you do want to tip them, the end of the reception is the appropriate time.

How much is videography for a wedding?

Wedding videography is one thing many couples regret not paying for. It may seem like just another expense during wedding planning, but it’s really special to have a moving memory of your big day. The national average cost for wedding videography is $990-$1,260. Pricing can vary depending on wedding length, special film features, the amount of editing required, and how many videographers are needed to cover the event. Many videographers offer packages that provide different levels of service. A very simple wedding documentary could be $600 or more, while a full-scale cinematic experience involving multiple videographers could be $2,500 or more. Here’s an example of average package pricing:

    • Package 1: $1,400
      • Footage during and after the ceremony, including highlights requested by the couple.
      • Two cameras with audio equipment.
      • DVD including a 3- or 4-minute edit to a song of the couple’s choice and a 45- to 50-minute raw edit covering the entire event.
      • Recordings of guests’ good wishes to the couple.
    • Package 2: $1,800
      • Includes everything from Package 1, plus an additional videographer (2 total) and aerial videography.
Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
