Sorry this pro can’t do your job, but we know other pros who can.
Introduction: I like to model my teaching method off of the teachers I learned the most from during my time at Berklee College of Music. I like to let the student’s interests and curiosity drive the experience and I think that everyone has a natural love for music and it’s important to keep that love in tact, especially for young students. This of course has to be balanced with essential skills regarding technique and guitar knowledge, and theory, as well as introducing new concepts to them that are intellectual stimulating. My goal is to keep the student engaged in what they are learning and dedicated to continuing to learn more. What I enjoy enjoy most about teaching is seeing people proud of themselves for learning something new. Truthfully, music is a magical thing and learning how to make music is a really rewarding experience (especially on guitar because it's an awesome instrument!). I love guitar, so I like to help other people love it too.

Greg is a profoundly knowledgeable guitarist. His passion for music shows when he teaches. He will answer questions with a vast amount of musical ideas and information and consistently gauges the student’s comprehension to make sure the lesson is still effective. With such an advanced skill set as a jazz player, Greg is aware of the different levels to knowledge of musical systems-presumably from having to learn them himself, so his inclination to to check in with students and ask them questions to help them rwcfically apply new knowledge is a useful and mature approach. Personally, I walked away with more information than I could practically retain and would have benefited from recording the lessons; all of the information that did stick was very imactful to my playing and opened up my musical mind helping me learn how to play and make sense of sounds I’d heard but never understood in jazz music. I walked out of each lesson with practical things to work on-both specific and general. As a person, Greg has a gentle present demeanor that makes spending time in lessons truly enjoyable. Though his playing feels leaps and bounds ahead of mine, I didn’t feel judged, only encouraged by our lessons together. My own self-consciousness made me talk and ask questions more than play during our lessons and I think I could benefit from hearing Greg’s feedback on my playing as well as spending some time each lesson jamming on a tune or two with him, to forget/apply the intellectual side for the sake of learning through playing. I would recommend Greg as a teacher to other aspiring musicians like myself who are looking to expand their knowledge of harmony and other aspects of jazz music.

Greg helped me discover new harmonic ideas and ways to approach composing contemporary music on guitar. I often struggle with abandoning pieces or losing focus and inspiration when trying to keep track of ideas, and we discussed strategies to address these issues and how to effectively bring compositions to completion. During the lesson, Greg brought up specific examples using pieces from his own repertoire. Towards the end of the lesson, we discussed an interesting harmonic concept and how to systematically explore it to discover interesting chord voicings through experimentation, as well as a concrete call to action to finish a composition using the ideas we discussed. The insight and ideas I got from this lesson are the perfect jumping-off point I needed to begin exploring the guitar in a new way and start developing my own solo guitar repertoire.

Greg Dallas is a fantastic musician, so when he began offering lessons, I wanted to get in on them as a student quickly. He told me he has been playing guitar since sixth grade and throughout our first lesson, he was able to share not just his experience, but why it mattered and how it could be helpful as I play -- and most importantly, practice. Song-writing is a hobby of mine, and he spent a good deal of time helping me figure out new ways to add to my chord knowledge and how I can use changing a chord progression to influence listeners throughout the story I am telling. I consider Greg a master guitarist and am lucky enough to call him my guitar teacher. -Noah Jones

Greg is an awesome instructor who really knows his stuff. He is easy-going, kind, and enthusiastic about your improvement. Greg makes learning guitar feel really exciting and understandable, even if you're a beginner like me! He creates an environment that challenges you but also supports you so that you feel encouraged when trying out new techniques. Cannot recommend him enough.
