We originally hired Liz to handle the photography and videography of our cultural new year event. It was an excellent experience for us! She was very helpful, courteous, patient, and skillful. She took the time and paid extra attention to the cultural aspects of our event which was well reflected in the final product. Also we found her to be very reasonable with her pricing and we were easily able to stay with in on our budget. She also took time to work with us on the editing and the outcome was fantastic. We were so happy with the service that we are now using her for all our photography needs. For example, we just had her help us with the photography for our restaurant's menu. We definitely recommend her for your photography and videography projects.

Ray WOWED me from my initial interaction with him. I began to research for the videographer we wanted to capture for the day I married my husband. We decided to elope, so capturing our wedding by video was extremely important to us. Ray IMMEDIATELY responded to my email and was VERY quick to get back to me with excellent attention to detail, understanding of what I would need on the day of my wedding, and offering to support me as I had not even chosen my venue/even visited Charleston. I am usually on top of most details and to find an artist that understood the attention to detail of how I work and to exceed my expectation is also VERY hard to find. Ray was patient, and from day one sent ideas to show the concept that he could create for our day! I was speechless and so excited from day 1!! Ray made time to reach out to us on many occasions and to do a consultation with us to discuss where we wanted to get married and what shots we wanted to have the day of. I sent over an Itinerary and PowerPoint and he thoughtfully provided feedback that supported my organization and planning on the day off! Ray had already gave me immense confidence and trust that he would provide a beautiful video to cherish for life. He explained his plan and what he would need from us on the day of to make sure we would capture an amazing video! This made me feel confident that he understood the importance of having him on our day. Ray drove 12 hours to meet us and was early, so kind, positive, and confident and helped organize everyone before I arrived. Ray captured our wedding with utmost professionalism! He kept us laughing, providing a plan for our video session throughout Magnolia Plantations, and encouraged me to relax to get better shots. At one point I was shaking from nerves and his calm demeanor put me at ease before I walked down the aisle. I am not photogenic or comfortable around cameras but Ray knew exactly how to set me up (private and away from people) so that I could relax and capture the footage for our video. He set up time individually with my husband prior to the wedding to get some private footage and did the same for me. Ray was EXTREMELY flexible to split his time and even worked longer than we hired him for so that we could capture some awesome footage and sunset shots!!! I would love love love to do more video sessions with Ray in the future as he is not just an EXCELLENT AND TALENTED videographer…which he is. Ray is incredibly kind, soooo funny, so very professional, and takes his work extremely serious. Scott and I feel incredibly blessed to have Ray and to have had him capture our Wedding. I would ABSOLUTELY recommend having him as your videographer for ANY event…you will be so so grateful you hired him!!

I had the best experience with Kingdom Entertainment!!! They did a slide show for my wedding and they did a video of the entire wedding and reception. The work and products both were phenomenal and we are so pleased!!! They were able to capture all our special moments, they interviewed our guests, they live-streamed our wedding so my husband's family could see the wedding live in Ghana, and they created a finished product that we will forever treasure. The package we chose was well-worth the money and I am so pleased with all we received for the money we spent. It was very reasonably priced and I am so glad that we chose Kingdom Entertainment as our videographers!!! I highly recommend them to anyone and I will definitely use them again in the future!!! If I could give ten plus stars, I would!!! Great job!!!!

We hired Daniel for videography for my sister's wedding. He did an outstanding job and went above and beyond his required work to make sure he captured all the big moments of the day right to the very end of the night. The video quality was very professional and the highlight video was great as well. I would definitely hire Daniel again and recommend him to friends in need of a videographer.

Wow is all I can say about this couple!!! Jeremy and Caty are the sweetest couple and are so great at their job. They strived to capture every moment of our special day. They worked very well with the photographer and did not butt heads at all! Our reception was outside and it was sooo humid, Jeremy overheard my wife saying “I really need some water” while we were taking pictures and he immediately sprinted up the hill to grab her a bottle of water! Not to mention they also drove 2 hours back and forth to work our Wedding! We wish them the best and hope that was not our last meeting and cannot wait to get the final product back! Thank you!!!

We used Hollow Township Entertainment for videography services for our October 1 st wedding. HTE was absolutely outstanding. My husband and I were beyond impressed by the services we received. HTE was extremely professional and they went above and beyond what I expected. I am so pleased that I selected HTE as one of my vendors for my special day. The morning after our wedding, my husband and I talked about what an awesome job HTE did. We will definitely recommend them and we will hire them for future events.

Michael was attentive to all of our wishes for our wedding day video. He strived and succeeded to capture the most beautiful moments of the day. He was extremely professional, responsive and quick to deliver. There are a lot of videographers out there to choose from but they are not going to give you the personalized detail and attention to get the finished product just perfect. I highly recommend Moonlight for your wedding or special event! Thank you Moonlight Media for capturing our most treasured moments!

Tristan is an asset to the real estate community of greater Charlotte. He responds immediately and is eager to please not only the Realtor, but the home owners and everyone that views the video. I highly recommend Tristan to help promote and sell home listings. I also see how aerial video could help with the promotion and leasing and sale of even commercial or retail listings by depicting everything surrounding the area. If I owned a motor home park and campground, I would have aerial videography done depicting the area and surrounding area and all it has to offer! There are so many potential uses for aerial photography and videography! The Carolinas are the PERFECT area for Tristan Albano's Off The Rails aerial footage! I hired Charlotte Films for Hire for my wedding. I honestly was a little reluctant because he was so reasonable with his pricing and it didn't seem to match with professionalism I was presented with but I went with my gut and I couldn't be happier. Jason made sure I we got everything we asked for-he even made more of an impression over the photographer who is a friend of ours ;) Jason did excellent work with our video, we love it and the awesome graphics and editing! Thank you for making this special memory forever for us :)

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a videographer and what do they do?

A videographer professionally films weddings and other events and edits the footage to create film keepsakes or marketing materials for their clients. Wedding videographers record all the key elements of your wedding day, ceremony and reception, and then edit the hours of film during post-production to make a wedding video, social media highlight reels, and any other film features you choose. Wedding videography captures, in live action, your vows, the cake-cutting, the first dance, reception toasts, the decor, the guests and all the details of your day. Many wedding videographers also interview guests (based on an interview list provided by the couple) and incorporate the recorded responses into the wedding video. Event videography typically costs less than wedding videography, as events are shorter with less detail. The national average cost for event videography is $500-$760, while the national average cost for wedding videography is $990-$1,260. A videographer usually does not need to be licensed, but it is important to confirm they have insurance and good standing in the business community, as well as good client reviews. A great majority of the work happens during post-production. The pros watch and blend together the hours of footage they took (sometimes from multiple cameras) to capture the story of your wedding day or event.

How do you choose a wedding videographer?

A wedding videographer will create a lifetime memory for you from edited video footage of your wedding day, ceremony and reception. Choosing a wedding videographer starts with looking online at portfolios of their past work. There’s no need to talk to anyone unless you love what you see. Next, make sure they have good reviews and past client experience; don’t be shy about asking for references if there aren’t any posted online. When you find someone who has a style you love, ask if they are available on your wedding day. If so, it’s time to talk pricing. Be clear about your maximum budget, and ask what kind of packages they offer. Pricing will depend on the number of crew needed for filming, the hours they are required to be onsite, post-production editing, and the length of the final product. Talk with several wedding videographers to get a feel for what prices are like in your region. Nationally, the average cost for wedding videography ranges between $990 and $1,260 per event. Once you agree on a product and have a plan, get everything in a written and signed contract. Clearly state the details of what is expected for your wedding day and from the final product. Be prepared to pay a deposit to reserve their services for the day, then pay the remainder upon receiving the video.

What should you ask your wedding videographer before hiring?

Finding the perfect wedding videographer doesn’t have to be stressful. Asking a few key questions upfront will help you find the right fit for your big day. Before talking with wedding videographers, research their work online. Look at their websites, business profiles and social media, and see what their finished wedding videos look like. If the style fits what you’re envisioning, it’s time to reach out. During initial contact, make sure you get along with the person. This is important since they’ll be interacting with you and your guests.

Your first question should be about their availability; there’s no point in going further if they’re booked on your wedding day. Ask to see references if they’re not readily available online. Next, it’s time to talk about money. Ask how they determine rates or what kind of packages they offer. When you settle on a rate and the services you want, make sure to have a written contract that outlines everything, including cost, length of time they film, what post-production will include, and when you can expect to receive the edited project.

When do you pay your wedding videographer and wedding photographer?

Most wedding videographers and photographers require a set deposit when you hire them. Wedding season is a busy time and a deposit secures that vendor’s services for your wedding date. It also protects the vendor if the couple changes their mind at the last minute, and they can’t find a new booking and lose work for the day. The deposit may be anywhere from 20 percent to  50 percent of the agreed-upon total price. Always get a written confirmation that your deposit has been received.

The remainder of the wedding videography and photography bill may be due in the week before to your wedding or on the day of the wedding. Other vendors may require a second payment immediately before the wedding and a third and final payment after the wedding video or photos are delivered. Each vendor has their own policies, so before hiring be sure to read, understand and agree to payment protocols. There is no requirement for tipping wedding videographers or photographers, but if you do want to tip them, the end of the reception is the appropriate time.

How much is videography for a wedding?

Wedding videography is one thing many couples regret not paying for. It may seem like just another expense during wedding planning, but it’s really special to have a moving memory of your big day. The national average cost for wedding videography is $990-$1,260. Pricing can vary depending on wedding length, special film features, the amount of editing required, and how many videographers are needed to cover the event. Many videographers offer packages that provide different levels of service. A very simple wedding documentary could be $600 or more, while a full-scale cinematic experience involving multiple videographers could be $2,500 or more. Here’s an example of average package pricing:

  • Package 1: $1,400
    • Footage during and after the ceremony, including highlights requested by the couple.
    • Two cameras with audio equipment.
    • DVD including a 3- or 4-minute edit to a song of the couple’s choice and a 45- to 50-minute raw edit covering the entire event.
    • Recordings of guests’ good wishes to the couple.
  • Package 2: $1,800
    • Includes everything from Package 1, plus an additional videographer (2 total) and aerial videography.
Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
