There's so much I can say about randy, but I'm going to leave the important parts for you all to read, this man is a god-given person, the time that he took to try to repair my refrigerator I don't know why but he stuck with me through thick and thin, but he did explain to me about the situation and the problem with the refrigerator it had a pinhole somewhere in the line the reason why the freon kept leaking out, he went way out to get me a used one because I didn't have the money to buy a new one, that were really impressive and heartwarming. If anyone should ever need your service I will call upon Randy first, thank you Randy, God bless

Marcus did a great job repairing not just the fridge, but our dryer, dishwasher, and an attempt at our washer which couldn't be repaired due to a large hole in the liner. We felt the pricing was very reasonable for all machines. He did have some truck issues which caused him to be delayed to the appts. (We had 2 appts for all the machines.) However, his expertise was worth the wait and who doesn't have car trouble sometimes. We will definitely call him again for maintenance on the appliances and any other repairs in the future!

J&M was very responsive from the start. Jermaine set the appointment, telling me he would call before arriving, and he did. He was on time, friendly but professional, took the time to thoroughly check everything out, fixed the dishwasher, cleaned up after himself and his fee was very reasonable. We'll definitely keep his number in our book for any appliance repair.

I was extremely pleased with their ability to repair my appliance. They re-diagnosed the problem and got it right when the first appliance repair company mis-diagnosed it. Which saved me TONS of money. The only thing I would say this company could work on is scheduling. They told me they would be at my house between 1-3, and at 2:45, when I hadn't heard from them, I called. Then I was told they would be at my house at 4:00. The repairman arrived after 5:00. Still, I would definitely recommend.

I called Justin one afternoon as my GE dishwasher failed me and was not draining. Justin answered my call and was at my house in less than 20 minutes. He was very professional, showed up ready to work and already had in mind what some potential causes could be. He worked to identify the problem and informed me immediately. He gave me my options including what he estimated my total cost to be. I asked him to proceed and he was able to fix my dishwasher and stay in his estimated price range. Justin identified the problem and fixed the machine within about an hour. He cleaned up after himself, leaving my kitchen and dishwasher better than he found it. My dishwasher has been run three times since Justin's repair and is working beautifully. I would highly recommend Justin's services for his punctuality, professionalism and definitely the best value around. Thanks Justin!

I have had Dean do a number of projects at my house. He is clean cut, reasonably priced, and very skilled in construction (and auto repair). Even as a single woman I felt very safe around Dean. Now that I'm married my husband and I still use him. For everything. He was referred to me by a friend who uses him and has become our go to guy and I am happy to list some of the projects he has done for us: Installed light fixtures, fixed leaky shower faucets, fixed our garbage disposal, replaced sink hardware, installed a ceiling fan, installed our microwave, installed our dishwasher, installed a toilet, fixed a toilet that wouldn't stop running, installed a mailbox, installed tile in my kitchen, and I'm sure I am forgetting things. Sometimes we even pay him to help my husband with projects he can't do alone. He is actually a really good teacher too. Now my mother in law and several of my friends use him to help with their projects. He really is great!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does refrigerator repair cost?

Refrigerator repair generally costs a fraction of the price of a new fridge and shouldhave your appliance up and running again in no time. The problems your refrigerator is experiencing and the parts required to fix it will affect your repair costs. Where you live can affect labor rates, which will raise or lower your costs. Here are some examples of average costs:

  • Diagnostic fees: $50-$100. Repair pros often have a service call fee or diagnostic fee to account for their time traveling to your location with all their tools to assess the problem. If you choose to have them repair the fridge, most pros then credit this fee toward your repair cost.
  • Parts: $20-$500. A new compressor averages $200, an icemaker $300, and computerized components such as touch screens and control boards average $300 or more.
  • Basic repairs: $180-$400, including parts. This price range can include repairing the evaporator or fan motor.

How long do fridges last?

Refrigerators can last 10 to 20 years, although the most common lifespan is about 13 years. If your fridge is acting up, consider its current age when deciding whether to invest in repairs or buy a new one. Common easy fixes include faulty thermostats, dirty coils and clogged drain lines. Thermostats and dirty coils can be generally be fixed for an average cost of $80-$100. Clogged drain lines, which usually cause leaks, can often be fixed for under $200.

More complex refrigeration repairs such as replacing a bad compressor or replenishing low refrigerant can cost more because of expensive parts and higher labor. A new compressor costs an average of $200, not including labor. If labor is an average of $75-$100 per hour, and the repair takes 3 hours, you’re looking at roughly $500. Consider the age and purchase cost of your fridge; investing $350 in a $600 fridge that is 8 years old may not be cost-effective.
