What happens if you don't tune a piano?

Tunings can help prevent damage and maintain your piano. When you tune your piano, you’re correcting its pitch. So if you go too long without tuning your piano, the pitch will likely drop — which can add tension to your piano’s structure, according to the Piano Technicians Guild.

Is piano tuning hard?

Tuning a piano can be difficult if you haven’t done it before and don’t have the correct tools. For example, you’ll need a piano tuning lever, tips, electronic chromatic tuner and mutes. If you don’t have the tools or experience, you might be better off hiring a professional to tune your piano.

How long does piano tuning take?

Tuning your piano might take a few hours or less. Before your appointment, ask your piano tuner how long the process will take.

Is it worth tuning an old piano?

It may be worth tuning your old piano, especially if it’s highly valued or has sentimental value. Bring your piano to an expert piano tuner. They can assess your instrument and help you determine if it can be restored.

Can a piano be too old to tune?

Many old pianos can be tuned. Consult a professional piano tuner to find out if they can tune your piano.

Why do my piano keys squeak?

If your piano keys are squeaking, it may be because something is stuck between the keys. Or, your piano may be dirty. You may be able to fix your keys. If not, hire a professional to take a look at the problem and perform the repairs.

Can a piano be tuned after 20 years?

If you haven’t tuned your piano in 20 years, you can still bring it to a tuner for them to assess and perform a pitch raise.

How often should you tune a piano?

Some experts recommend tuning your piano at least two or four times a year, according to the Piano Technicians Guild. You should always see what the manufacturer recommends for your specific piano. And you should schedule additional tunings as needed.

Reviews for Charlotte piano tuning professionals

Piano tuner did a fabulous job tuning my Kuwaii baby grand as well as fixing some keys that were sticking. She responded quickly to my initial inquiry and did the job in a timely manner. She provided recommendations for ways to keep my heirloom in great condition which is valued as I am a piano instructor. I would highly recommend this piano tuner. I also thought it was great the tuner was a woman, and I chose her over a male tuner because it’s important to support women business owners!

Sarah was delightful and she has a quieter manner of tuning the piano than my last tuner. My ears appreciated her technique. Makes honest assessments of your piano's state and makes good recommendations for maintaining the sound quality of the piano. I would use her again. Thank you.

I am a first-time piano owner and this piano was given to me. It was unknown if the instrument had ever been tuned. After the move, the sound and pitch were unrecognizable. I was really discouraged about about it ever sounding like it should. But, after searching for a piano tuner I'm so glad that I was able to find Sarah with In Tune Piano Services! She did an excellent job with the tuning and picth adjustment! My piano now sounds amazingly good!! 😀

Sean certainly knew what he was doing. He arrived at the time we have agreed upon, and he immediately went right to work. The piano had not been tuned is a very, very long time, and I was afraid it might take him some time to complete his tuning, but it did not. The piano sounds like a different instrument. I did not realize how bad it was until Sean made it sound good again. I would certainly use him again and will recommend him to anyone who asked me for the name of a tuner. He is a very multi-talented guy and I thought he did a marvelous job.
