Introduction: Some people become dance teachers because they were once great dancers and don't know anything else, others it's a temporary or passing job, and then there's a select group who love their students and have devoted their lives to making each student the best they can be. Although I love to dance myself, I am truly passionate about teaching. I spend hours each week watching videos to compare how other professionals explain things to try to find the best way to get through to my students. I care so much about your success, and I think you'll feel that. When people choose to start dancing, it's often a sign that they're looking for changes in their life - more than just on the dance floor. Maybe they want to meet people, maybe they want to start getting fit, maybe they just enjoy the art of it. I feel like my job is to figure out what they really want out of dancing and the best path to help them achieve it, and I love every minute of that journey.

We were worried because of only a handful of reviews...but what a steal! She was sweet, and kind and really good while working with our 4 left feet. She was open to suggests, has experience with wedding dance. I was nervous before the lesson and worried about learning to dance with a "stranger" but the lesson completely shattered my expectations. Joy was warm and friendly. I can not wait for the next session (trying for at least 4 before the wedding; money well spent!).

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
Pricing to have a lesson at Southern Star Ballroom in Raleigh or Triangle Dance Studio in Durham is as follows: - $55 for a half-hour private lesson (individual or couple) - $75 for a 55-minute lesson (up to 7 people, $10 per person thereafter) I also offer some $10-15 (per person) drop-in group classes.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Yes - I continue to train and receive coaching every week.
How did you get started doing this type of work?
I couldn't stay away (and I tried - but only because of $$). Sounds cheesy, but I feel like I was meant to teach. There's a part of me that just feels more alive when dancing and I really want to help others have that same feeling.
