I've use Jaime before and as expected he gave me a reasonable quote to remove a 40 ft tree that's been uprooted due to the recent heavy rain. This was my rental property and it's on the other side of town, he came the next day and cut down the tree with minimal impact to the fence. I couldn't ask for better or faster service. Thanks Jaime!!!

James and his team did an excellent job! They mulched a natural area as well as the bed around the house. They removed two unwanted bushes, trimmed all the remaining bushes and worked on straightening a small tree. They then mowed and edged the whole yard. We will be having them mow every two weeks!

Great working with Rob and his crew. My fence went up (in Chapel Hill) in record time, and it is perfect. Rob was also able to accommodate several other last minute requests for other work on my property including tree and garden work, expansion of driveway and building a shed to accommodate trash containers-and I am so pleased with all. Rob was always pleasant and respectful and a pleasure to work with. Would happily hire him again in future. Thank you JWE Designs!!

Great job taking down a tree and some big branches that were overhanging our house. One tree that we had planned to take down that day wasn't able to be removed. I appreciated the explanation of the Robbie's original approach and he made a plan for how he can cut the tree down another day.

Gonzalez Tree Care Inc. is well organized, very experienced and fully equipped to handle small and large tree trimming jobs. After buying a house with thick rows of trees on 2 sides and along the front drive last year, I estimated that 4 trees would have to be trimmed this summer. Brian explained during the estimate that removal at the base was the only solution for some trees growing toward the house and over the driveway, and he showed how other trees would soon overgrow. I gave him the job because I wanted the results to last. Brian marked every target tree the day before. The 6-man crew cleared the large trees that were brushing the house in back and cut back multiple small trees and vines on the side and front. They hauled away all the wood and blew leaves and branches so the yard was clear afterwards. Later, I watched a security camera video documenting a TALL tree falling at a perfect angle into a narrow space to the side of the railing by my porch stairs. A less experienced team would have damaged the porch stairs by misdirecting the tree by a few inches. These men are real pros, and thanks to their expertise and hard work, my yard is now under control.

I hired Tapp'so to do some simple 10 yardsteps of mulch work and they also set and cut our garden timbers into the ground for us. They offered to repair and replace our 6' garden fence using wire and stakes and did a good job. Reasonably priced too. They are clean, experienced and detailed. I recommend them and will hire them back to finish our other landscaping projects too. Tray is very good at communicating.

No matter what landscaping job I hire Jerell to do, he always does a first-rate job! Tree- trimming, lawn mowing, mulching, he does it all. My back yard was in awful shape and by the time he was finished, it was among the best looking in my neighhood! Dependable, professional, a background in horticulture, and reasonable prices as well, I unequivocally recommend Jerell (919-349-2457) for all lawncare and landscaping needs.

My entire experience with Stone, Soil and Shrubs has been excellent. I’ve happily contracted lawn service with this company for about ten years. The monthly service plan we have includes all mowing, trimming, all fertilizer and chemical applications, all pruning, and twice yearly seeding as needed. In addition to this, we’ve also retained them to provide a la carte services such as resolving drainage issues, tree removal, hardscaping, sodding, and the planting and transplanting everything from annuals to trees to entire beds. They are reasonably priced for the high level of service they provide and they are responsive to any query or complaint—and those are rare. Most of my immediate neighbors have used them either on contract or for single-service jobs. I have never heard a complaint. It isn’t hard to find someone to mow your lawn. It is very hard to find someone who will treat it like their own, and not take shortcuts.

Dallas came out and knocked out 20 pallets of sod for me. Also did a lot of plantings and trees then finished it off with mulch and pine straw. The project finished just in time for my party just like he said. Excellent work!

I hired Humble Tree to cut down several trees and bushes on my property. I was very impressed with Michael's knowledge of all of the different plants to be removed. He gave me the best removal strategy based on the type of tree. He was always prompt, professional, and great to talk with. He did an excellent job with the tree removal, tree trimming, and was careful to clean up afterwards and not leave a mess behind. The price he quoted was great value for the work done as well. I will certainly hire Humble Tree for all my future yard maintenance needs, and will be recommending him to my friends and neighbors as well.

Hade a good conversation with Javier on the potential job of laying the sod. Scheduled the time and he was there early to start the work. He explained everything he was going to do. Cause of the weather the sod was scheduled a couple of days but once delivered. He was very proficient on how he laid the sod. He gave me instructions on how to water it as well. He planted two small trees and put down mulch for me as well. The ending results were beautiful. Thanks again Javier.

Jared was very professional and thorough. He gave us a fair price and did an excellent job removing a large tree in our front yard. The tree was very close to our house and he was super careful with the removal. He cleaned up everything and even left us a few "slices" of the tree we asked for. He also advised us on some other tree trimming we will do in a few months. We will definitely hire him to complete our other trimming soon. Thanks Jared!

This is the 2nd time I had Treemenservices help us. This time I requested for 4 Thuja trees to be planted in my backyard for privacy. Treemenservices sent one professional and he did an outstanding job despite of the hot temperature outside. The professional gave us instructions for care when the job was completed and the 4 trees are doing well since being planted. Thank you!

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to trim a tree?

The national price range for tree trimming is $270-$450. Tree trimming is often done by a professional arborist who is trained to safely trim and prune trees for both the health of the tree and the safety of the residents and their property. Trying to do your own tree trimming is not advisable unless you have the proper know-how. Tree trimming companies may charge an hourly rate for their services. The hourly rate may be higher or lower for different trees to reflect the relative safety measures, skill, equipment or people power needed to handle the job. For this reason, most tree services provide free estimates.

One example of an hourly rate for professional tree trimming services is $150 per hour. Costs may be under $100 or could be higher than $300 per hour, depending on variables such as proximity to buildings, health of the tree, height and diameter of the tree, and type of tree trimming desired. Geography and regional cost of living and regional costs to do business will also play a role in your tree removal costs.

How much does it cost to remove a tree stump?

Once you have a tree cut down, you’ll probably want to remove the tree stump as well. You may want the stump removed for aesthetics, the tree stump could be diseased, you might want to prevent regrowth, or you may find the roots are causing problems and need to be removed. Tree removal costs don’t always include the cost to grind out or dig out a tree stump after the tree has been felled and the trunk removed. The national average cost for stump removal ranges from $150 to $200. There are two main methods for dealing with tree stumps. In grinding, pros use a chipping machine to grind away the above-level tree stump until it sits just below the soil surface. Tree stump removal entails lifting the entire root ball of a tree out of the soil. Removing the stump will leave a hole in the ground and also take more time, labor and money than stump grinding. Here are some examples of average tree stump removal costs:

    • Stump grinding: $2-$4 per inch.
    • Tree stump removal: average of $60-$350.

The final price will depend on the stump’s size, condition, location and condition of the soil around it.

How much does it cost to remove a fallen tree?

If you need to have a tree cut down, have you planned what will happen next? Arborists often charge an additional fee to quarter and remove the fallen tree from your property, so anticipate this as part of your tree removal costs. You can elect to have the wood cut for use in your fireplace, or you may prefer to have it hauled away completely.

Tree removal costs may vary based on the height and the width of the felled tree. Size affects the labor required for removal, which will be reflected in the cost. For example, a tree service company may charge an additional $100-$120 to haul away the pieces of a felled tree. The service may cost as little as $75 in some regions and more than $150 in others. Regional labor rates, the cost of living and the cost to do business in your area will be reflected in your tree removal cost.

How much does it cost to cut a tree down?

When you’re ready to have a tree on your property come down, it’s time to call an arborist. The national average price range for tree-trimming costs is $270-$450. Tree removal costs can vary based on the height, diameter, location and health of the tree, and on whether you want to remove the stump. Height plays a major role in tree removal costs. Small trees, no more than 30 feet tall, are usually thinner in diameter and easier and safer for an arborist to manage. Removal of a small tree can cost anywhere from under $150 to over $450. Removal of medium-height trees, from 30 feet to 60 feet tall, could cost anywhere between $150 and $850 or more. Tall trees, typically 60 feet to 80 feet tall, may start at $500 or cost more than $1,000 to cut down. As the height and diameter increase, so does the cost.

Location is critical, too. Removing a tree in an open space is quicker and presents fewer obstacles than removing a tree that is growing flush to your house. Arborists can assess your tree and provide you with quotes based on the variables involved. For example, removing a medium-size hackberry tree that was growing too close to a home — the roots were damaging the home’s foundation — cost $1,500. This price included rope-down, house protection, tree quartering and stacking, and stump removal.

How much does it cost to cut down a massive tree?

If you have to remove a big, beautiful tree from your property, you’ll definitely need an arborist. Cutting down a massive tree without the proper tools or training can lead to major property damage or injury. A huge tree may need to be removed if it is diseased or dying and poses a safety risk, has suffered a blow from a storm and isn’t safe, or is growing into your home, your home’s foundation, your septic system, or your power lines. Removal costs for such large trees will depend on the tree’s height, diameter, and relative safety and accessibility, as well as whether you also need the felled tree and stump removed. The bare minimum for removal of a tree over 75 or 80 feet would be $1,000. This may not include tree quartering and removal or stump grinding. Stump grinding ranges on average from $2 to $4 per inch of the stump’s diameter. There is no set price as each situation is unique, so it’s always best to have an arborist give you a quote and detail exactly which services are included in the price.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
