Armando was a pleasure to do business with! He responded quickly to any messages/questions I had, arrived on time, and did a wonderful job on our garage floor! In fact, we've already passed along his contact information to 2 friends who are interested in having him do some work! We'll definitely hire him again!

They did great job and were extremely nice. My only suggestion would be when you put transition pieces to rooms with carpet, some may not have the ability to plane their doors, and they may not close. Just making sure they are aware of that, and can get that done. Love my floors, and would request the same people again.

He was great to work with and did an excellent job! He came to a rental property I owned and pressure washed the driveway, walkway and front door area. His brother also changed out 3 ceiling fans for us. He is very pleasant and a very hard worker, not to mention it was over 95 degrees that day!

Jeremy was the best HANDYMAN ever. There is nothing he cant do, do it well, quickly. I had two (2) 8x10 sheets of things to do for me, from moving electrical wires, installing undercounter kitchen lights, installing cabinet doors' and drawers' hardware that had none previously, holding up heavy mattress so I could put bed skirt on, installing storage cabinets, shelves, in my garage...and more and more.. He always goes one step further to make sure the client is happy. We moved my "office/craft" room around..his idea..and then fixed the mangle of wires left behind by the cable/phone/internet worker. The room now feels spacious and extremely more useable. When I need something done, you can bet Mr. Jeremy Ashley will be my first call. Barbara Smith, Greensboro, NC

Forestieri Custom Exteriors was contracted to do the exterior trim, short roof and bay window area siding, all the exterior doors, and shutters. They checked for rotted wood and other structural problem areas and did a thorough pressure washing of the outside before they started painting. The crew was courteous, prompt and on time. They did an excellent job of keeping paint off of plants, sidewalks, decks and other outside areas and always cleaned up before the end of every day. I liked the fact that they made sure that they used the optimal temperatures for the paint and did not rush the job just to get it done. All in all, a top shelf job. I do not believe that they could have done any better and have already recommended them to neighbors who may have to have some painting done here in the future. Great job all around!

Great job staining our front door. Easy to communicate with and great follow up. Our schedule is crazy, and it is difficult to schedule work at our home -- Jamie was very easy to work with and we could get the work completed quickly. Corey was very professional and gave us great advice on the door work. We will definitely hire again for our many house to-do projects! Thank you!

Caleb is a good guy and did a thorough pressure washing job for a large 3-car side-load garage driveway and walkway at a reasonable price. We couldn't get one etched-in oil stain out of the driveway from an old vehicle I used to have that kept leaking oil and was never cleaned for ever. But he still went out of the way to give a 2nd treatment and it looks a lot better now. The rest of the driveway/walkway looks great.

Excellent job! I am so glad I hired Andrew for replacing my floors. He also does just about anything else you might need and he does it well. Door replacement, drywall, painting, and etc. I have recommended Andrew to my realtor and other family and friends. One of the things that I greatly appreciated was that he was the only contractor that CLEANED UP after himself! Huge in my book. He also would take on any other job that I would come up with. Highly recommend to higher Andrew Key for pretty much anything. I would higher him again without a doubt. Thanks for your help Andrew. Great job!

We moved to the Greensboro area and bought a house that we wanted painted from top to bottom. Our Realtor recommended Tiago for the job. Boy are we glad he did!! From the moment Tiago arrived to give us an estimate, until the time he applied his final brush stroke to our front door, he brought a kindness and professionalism with him that we really appreciated. Tiago’s work is fantastic! He paints with remarkable skill, diligent patience and great attention to detail. On top of his excellent work, we found Tiago to be reliable, patient and a pleasure to be around. Tiago provides a wonderful blend of excellence in his work and pleasantness of personality! We would STRONGLY recommend him for any painting job!! Chris and Paula Keller

      Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How do you fix a broken garage door?

Garage door problems don’t have to mean the end of the world. Garage door repair is typically a one-day process and can be done for only a few hundred dollars. Common garage door repair requests include fixing slow or erratic garage doors, addressing strange sounds coming from the garage door or motor, fixing cosmetic damage such as dents or scrapes, repairing broken doors that are stuck open or closed, and troubleshooting inoperable doors.

The two main garage door operating mechanisms are sectional roll-ups or tilt-ups. Garage door repair services can fix single-car, double-car or RV-height doors. Your garage door may be made of wood, steel, aluminum, masonite, vinyl, fiberglass or another material. The type of garage door repair you need really depends on the type of garage door you have and the issue at hand. Garage door repair pros often charge a flat service call fee to diagnose the problem and provide an estimate. For customers who choose to have the repair done, the service call fee may be applied to the first hour of labor (including time to make the diagnosis). If your garage door is under warranty, the repair may be free of charge.

      Who repairs garage doors?

Garage door repair is a specialized job, which is typically handled by a garage door repair service. Professional garage door repair technicians can test or repair a garage door system and fix cosmetic blemishes on doors. Common requests include help with jammed or inoperable doors, slow or erratic doors, unusual sounds, dents or scrapes on the door, and general system testing. Garage door repair professionals can work on single-car, double-car and RV-size garage doors.

How do you choose a garage door?

When garage door repair isn’t an option — perhaps the current door is beyond fixing or you want to upgrade to a quieter, more energy-efficient model — it’s time to buy a new one. But choosing a garage door is not as simple as it sounds, even when you know the right size for your home. A wide range of materials, styles and finishes are available, and each factor influences the cost. Garage doors are made of aluminum, steel, vinyl, fiberglass, masonite, wood (typically cedar or mahogany), or a composite of several materials. They may be insulated against cold or heat. Traditional and modern styles include raised panel, carriage house or crossbuck. Most styles have window or arch options, and are available in different wood finishes and neutral colors. Because garage doors account for a large part of a home’s exterior, their appearance is usually a homeowner’s top priority. An attractive garage door can increase a home’s curb appeal and resale value.

How much does garage door repair cost?

When a garage door goes off the track, the spring breaks, the door is dented or the garage door opener is on the fritz, a professional garage door repair specialist can help. The cost to have a garage door fixed varies, but the national average cost of garage door repair is $70-$110. The extent of the damage and the size and material of the door will affect the final cost. A garage door repair company generally charges a national average of $80 for a service call, which includes the first hour of labor and service, such as testing and inspecting the garage door and opener. Apart from labor, the garage door repair costs hinge on buying replacements parts. For example, a new spring costs an average of $60. Expect to pay several hundred dollars, though, if the door is beyond repair; a new garage door ranges in price from $200 to $4,000, and most homeowners spend an average of $800-$1,200.

How much does it cost to install a new garage door opener?

Your new garage door opener cost will vary based on the model you purchase and how long installation takes. Typically, installation pros charge by the hour, although if the pro is also selling the garage door opener they may have a flat fee for the product with installation. The national average for new garage door opener costs (with installation) is between $390 and $650, although the national average cost for the opener purchased alone may be in the $150-$300 range. The three most common types of openers are chain-drive, screw-drive and belt-drive. The chain-drive costs the least but makes the most noise. The belt-drive is typically the quietest and the most expensive. You can expect to pay about the same amount for installation for any of the three styles. The lifespan of a garage door opener is approximately 10 years, depending on quality. A pro may provide opener repairs for the cost of their service call fee or they may charge a flat fee, such as $100 for opener repair. Here are some examples of new garage door opener average costs, including installation:

      • Contractor-grade garage door opener with installation: $300.
      • Chain-drive opener with installation and one remote: $350.
      • Belt-drive opener with installation and two remotes: $400
      • Top-of-the-line opener with ¾-horsepower battery backup, belt drive and nearly soundless operation: $475
        • The majority of higher-end garage door openers are “smart” products and will connect via app to your smartphone for remote access.
