I had many companies come out and decided to go with BWH. I was informed that they would only paint until the temp drops to a certain temp which I appreciated as I was clueless about outside painting. I then pushed my project of until late spring and as soon as I was ready they put me on the schedule. Excellent work in a timely manner. They followed up after the job to check on quality and my satisfaction. They made exterior painting as easy task and had wonderful customer service. I would use them again.

I have used Calvin more times than I can count over the years and he has always done a great job. He replaced all of the rotted wood, installed new windows, and covered the wood trim with vinyl coated aluminum trim around the new windows at my house - all at a great price. His price was half of what the big name companies charge for the exact same windows. He is a certified factory trained installer and the installation is as important as the window. He has done carpentry work and replaced doors and windows at my commercial properties too. One of the things I am most happy with is his detailed written estimate and warranty. Over the years I have had small problems with 2 windows and he replaced both of them for free, not even a trip charge. No hassles, just great service!

The work he and his crew did was phenomenal. They moved our sprinkler heads for the new driveway. Then they made a fancy line around the border of the concrete. It was so much more than what my husband and I expected. Fair price for a work well done. We will be contacting them again to help us with some inside the house projects. They cleaned up after themselves and the after product is wonderful. It was such a great job, they got some business from neighbors.

Issac is very skilled, very creative, problem solving and efficient, he fixed issue with exterior door and installed storm door. Issac was professional, on time, excellent work and would highly recommend. I've rehired Issac to replace windows, replace five faucets, lighting, ceiling fans and painting. Such a pleasure, can't say enough as to how pleased I was with the service.

While we decided to put our window project on hold indefinitely, our experience with Mike was phenomenal. He's very thorough and didn't try to oversell us on a product we didn't want. We will definitely revisit MS when we're ready to act.

Great Experienced Professional Exterior Painters! We are very pleased with Jackson’s workers and services he’d provided. He showed up promptly on time to give us a quote, worked very fast to finalize the details on what is asked and cost estimate. We were very happy with the process and would highly recommend Jackson and his team to others needing paint project. The project took about 7 business days. They taped the windows and doors and covered my newly remodeled deck so paint doesn’t get on it. They worked through painting the trims and edges with double coats of white paint. They sprayed the siding of the home.... which gave it a nice even coat! They painted the beams underneath the deck as well and garage door. We are very happy with the results. Once complete, we finalized and did a walk through for touch up and clean up on recess paints etc.... surprisingly ... there wasn’t a lot of excess mess left. He even pressured wash and cleaned the driveway for us because of some paint that was dropped by his workers. Some of his workers do no speak English but My communication with Jackson was sufficient enough to convey what my needs were with the project and the information trickles down. Again, VERY happy with his work and team! He’s very pleasant to deal with and very customer service oriented! We feel like we have a brand new home! Thanks Jackson and Team!!!

Long Construction Co. replaced 6 windows in our rental house which was built in 1930. Painstaking repairs were required before the windows could be installed. The windows fit so well that no air comes in or out. Gene Long gave us an estimate and that is what we paid even though extra work was done. He was professional and kept us informed throughout the process. I highly recommend Long Construction Co. We plan to call Gene for all work on our other rental houses and our own home.

We needed a couple windows repaired to have our house ready to put on the market. The value we got by choosing Atlas Premier Glass was far superior to the quotes we received from other glass companies. Some companies wanted us to replace the entire window, but the guys from Atlas were able to order parts, and make the repairs after the parts arrived. The entire process took about 20 minutes to install the new parts. We wished we had called them years sooner.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How do you replace a window?

You may want to replace a window if the glass has been damaged, you’re remodeling a room, or you want to upgrade your energy efficiency as well as your style by getting rid of those drafty single panes that are losing you money. When replacing a window, you can remove and replace the entire window down to the house frame. This method is best if the existing frame is damaged or deteriorating, but requires construction skills and know-how and will take more time and money. An easier and less expensive option is to install an insert replacement window into the existing frame. Insert replacements are only an option if your window frame is in good condition without rot or damage.

When replacing an entire window, first you’ll carefully remove the existing window with a pry bar and other tools. Next, you’ll make any repairs and adjustments needed to the existing frame or header and studs to ensure that the space is perfectly plumb and square, so the new window will sit perfectly within the space. Next, install the new window from the exterior, securing it into place. You’ll need to precisely wrap and insulate the window to ensure it doesn’t leak. Then, install the interior casing and exterior trim (as needed). If you prefer to hire a professional to install a window, consider replacing more than one window at a time, as the pro can work more efficiently.

How much is a custom window?

Choosing custom windows will increase your window installation cost but will provide you with exactly what you want. The average national cost for window installation is $2,650. Your custom window costs will vary based on several factors. The first factor is the type of frame you want. The four most common types of frames are vinyl, fiberglass, aluminum and wood. Wood is typically the most expensive option, followed by aluminum. The type of glass you select will also affect cost. There are single-, double- and triple-pane windows. Most double- and triple-pane windows have gas sealed between the panes that act as insulation. Windows typically cost more the more energy-efficient they are, though this efficiency can save you money on utility bills in the long run. The type of glass used can also affect cost. There are different grades of glass — high-performance glass, low-e coated glass, and more — which all provide you with better insulation. In addition, the number of unified inches (window height x window width) you need will affect cost. The cost of custom windows will also be affected by installation cost and whether any repair or construction work is required to properly fit the new window.

How much would it cost to put in new windows?

The cost to replace a window can vary depending on factors such as window size, type of glass, brand of window, necessary trim repair, and any construction work required for installation. Labor rates and cost to do business in your region will also affect the cost. The national average window installation cost is $2,650 per project. Here are some examples of average trim repair and window replacement costs:

  • Trim repair:
    • Line and case a window frame with an MDF product: $400.
    • Line and case a window frame with raw hemlock wood: $500.
  • Approximate cost to install five windows at one time: $3,000.
  • Approximate cost to install one double-hung, energy-efficient 3-foot by 4-foot window: $500-$550.
    • For the same window size (3-foot by 4-foot) from a different manufacturer made with a specialty fiberglass exterior and all-wood interior, the cost could go up to $1,500.
    • Pricing can go as high as $5,000 for a bay or bow window with specialty glass and framing.
      • These examples include removal and disposal of old materials and window.
