I charge $90 per month based on a 4 week month. That is one 30 minute lesson per week. 10% family discounts or hour students. All material is provided.

Introduction: My name is Steve Hicks owner/instructor at Dockwood Music Instruction. I offer instruction in guitar (acoustic and electric) , banjo, mandolin, ukulele and even songwriting. Instruction in all genres of music. I have over 40 years experience in performing and am currently Music Leader at Johnston Memorial Presby Church in NODA of Charlotte. I have been a session musician since the age of 15 and have performed or recorded with Arthur Smith, The Plum Hollow Band, Gal Friday, Tommy Faile, The Moody Brothers, Real Deal Band, and I am a Dove Award Nominated Songwriter. I take that experience and my experience teaching hundreds of students and pass that on to you in a fun, relaxed way. Would love to have you. My website is dockwoodmusic.com.
Teaching music is a passion and the students and families I have met doing this are amazing. I love teaching. It is truly the most rewarding thing I have ever done.

We've had our 13-year old son with Steve for about 3 years now....I cannot say enough AMAZING things about Steve as an instructor AND as a person! He works so well with anyone, but is very talented at working with youth & teens. He is realistic about what they can accomplish and achieve and never gives more than they can truly handle. He also teaches 'real' guitar - SONGS! Music theory does not inspire kids until they get something they can sink their teeth into!!! They learn a SONG and by proxy they learn a SKILL (every song he teaches has a purpose!) and they will also grow at the best pace because they will LOVE what they are learning. Steve charges the right price and gives the right instruction, I wouldn't take my kids anywhere....I might even start lessons myself someday!!

Steve teaches my 11 year old daughter guitar. In the time since she's been taking lessons from him (almost two years) she has progressed quite a bit. Most of all, she really enjoys taking classes from Steve. He makes playing the guitar fun, and I believe that has really played a large role in her willingness to stick with it. He picks out and teaches her songs she enjoys. The lessons have not only paid off in her ability to play guitar, but also her self confidence. We cannot recommend Steve and Dockwood Music highly enough!

Learning guitar from Steve Hicks has been a joy for our daughter. He has been wonderful in allowing her to choose pieces and styles she has interest in playing. She loves musical theatre and has a background in voice. Steve has given her plenty of opportunities to learn to sing while also playing favorite theatre pieces on guitar. Dockwood Music has been a blessing to us!
