My movers, Dishon and I didn’t catch the other movers name, just left and they were excellent. I had no issue. They arrived on time, started in a timely fashion, were very friendly and no dings or scratches on the wall or furniture. They didn’t ride the clock either to extend time. Excellent service will definitely use them again. I messaged hornets movers the night before my move and was able to get something set up within a few hours for the next day. Very professional!

Overall okay experience. I would encourage the movers to take their time moving items and not be in such a hurry so items are not damaged. The mover offered to replace item however I declined but I did appreciate the offer. Movers were professional overall and very personable.

I recently had American Moving & Hauling move me from one apartment building in a complex to another. I had a time frame I thought it should take in mind, but I did not mention it in the movers. Montini and Antonio were focused on what I wanted to happen during the move and was respectful during the process and best of all they met the time frame I had in mind. I am moving one more time in a few months and would seriously consider this company to provide services for me again.

The move was quick and efficient; movers were professional. Joshua and Mike took great care with furniture that my father made. Missing boxes were all located. The washer did not survive the move, but it could have been a problem for any movers going down the apartment stairs. The mover-in-charge called me twice because of a missing box, which turned out to be mislabeled. I appreciated the concern. I would recommend the company. Rates were affordable. Linda

The speed and ease of booking the appointment was great. The confirmation and communication from the main office and the Bellhop team Captain was also timely and very re-assuring. The team was very friendly, professional and worked very fast. We have moved to and from several suites in this office building over the years; and what usually takes other proffesional movers 10-12 hours, these guys did in 3 to 4 hours! Amazing! We are already planning to use them again for another project.

Global Moving Professionals is definitely what every moving company should be. They are "EXCELLENT" in their work performance, and work quality. I was very impressed as they handled every item with care. They were on time for our agreed appointment. They got the job done in a punctual manner and even the price they gave me to move us was impressive. If you are shopping for experienced movers than look no further because Global Moving Professionals is the right choice! (LL)

I found Perfect Moving on Thumbtack.com after previously booked movers cancelled on me at the last minute. I was under the gun to move out of my old apartment in just a few days. Tyree contacted me immediately and we set a move date/time. They showed up on time, were very professional and respectful. These two men moved some very heavy furniture from a second floor apartment in one building into a third floor apartment. I know it wasn't easy but they still moved pretty quickly. I wanted to stay at 4 hours for the move but it took a little longer. They even helped me get some bigger pieces that I couldn't take with me out to the dumpster. It was a successful move and great experience. It's hard to hire someone online - especially when you need to have them into your home. I would definitely hire Perfect Moving again.

For the first time in my life I am writing any reviews. Actually after taking the awesome service, I decided to write this review for Pick Up Movers. Movers came on time at the day of the move, they wrapped and boxed everything perfectly and moved all my belongings in one piece and without a scratch at the destination. I checked the inventory and did not find a reason to feel unhappy. I am grateful and thankful to this great moving company for a wonderfully executed move.

Quick Movers were professional with the move and got the job done. The two movers wrapped our furniture and brought everything needed. They were two hours late, so schedule early just in case! Heads up: they charge an undisclosed 4% credit card fee, so pay with cash if you can.

We used Easy Movers to relocate our offices twice. The crew was on time with plenty of men and equipment to effectively handle the job. I was meeting with an out-of-state client, and was unable to supervise the move, however, our staff had labeled all of the boxes and equipment, going to two different destinations, everything was moved into the correct space the first time. In addition, Easy Movers also offered to store several items for us and recommended ways for us to label our boxes and files for both long and short-term storage. The staff from Easy Movers made our move stress-free, fast, and very cost effective. I highly recommend them, they are the only movers I will use, and the only movers I would recommended to others.

Brandon was wonderful! He was available early and very prompt. Working with him was great. He was very nice and very accommodating. He and a mover he was training were very professional and got the job done quickly. He was very kind the whole time and so supportive of his co-worker and my requests. He definitely sets the bar high for future movers. I would hire him again in a heartbeat! Thank you, Brandon!

I’d highly recommend Odell Movers! We used them for our recent move from one apartment to another across town. The 2 man crew worked hard, and took care of our furniture. If you need good, reliable movers, give them a call. First time using Thumbtack, and Odell movers. Will definitely use both again! Kimbrel, Charlotte NC

My movers just left and requested a review as quickly as possible. I assured them that I would provide then with a 10 out of 5 star rating. Most importantly, the young men were respectful to my husband and I. I am 67 years old so I was on the young men from start to finish - making sure they were respectful of my belongings and home. They wrapped all of my furniture and assisting with packing items that were not packed upon their arrival. I did notice a small hole in the wall at the pick up address. Tight corners so I did not complain. But I did want them to know that I noticed. Other than that, my belongings arrived in great shape. I will recommend to my friend Margaret who will be moving in about 2 weeks. I informed her to request Mark and Stephen. Thanks again for your hard work. Spend your tip wisely.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What do moving companies do?

Moving companies provide a range of services to help you physically move out of one residence and move into a new place. But moving companies can do so much more than just haul your belongings across town in a truck. The national average for moving company prices ($250-$350 per hour) reflects the range of services provided. Here are examples of all the ways moving companies can help:

  • Packing: Moving companies can pack your belongings for you. They typically charge a flat rate for both the box and the labor to pack the box. The more time-consuming the belongings are to pack, the higher the cost per box. For example, books could be $5 per box, linens $10 per box, and fine china and glassware $18 per box.
  • Specialty moving: Safely move a baby grand piano, a oversize aquarium, or other specialty items with the help of pro movers.
  • Storage: Many moving companies can store your belongings while you wait for a new home to be remodeled or closing of your new home to be finalized. If you’re moving long-distance, they often provide short-term storage free for a specific length of time, and a set rate after that (such as $60 per square cubic foot of storage space used).
  • Long-distance moves: No need to rent a trailer and move your things; a long-distance moving company can haul your belongings across the country for you. Typically they charge by the cubic foot for moves, with prices based on your destination.
  • Unpacking: Moving companies can even unpack your belongings for you after they have moved them. This is not as common, and will definitely increase the price, but can be helpful if you’re not able to tackle this task yourself.

How much does a moving company charge per hour?

When you’re ready to make a major move, it’s time to research moving companies’ prices. A moving company may charge on average anywhere between $25 and $100 per hour, per worker, for moving services. The price will vary with regional labor rates, local cost to do business, and the level of service the movers are providing. Nationally, the average hourly rate for a moving company is $250-$350 per hour. This price includes a range of pricing, from all-in service with four or more movers on site to standard hourly rates for one or two movers. Other factors that affect moving companies’ prices are packing, stairs (or elevators), and distance. For a full-service move, you pay movers to pack your belongings for you. You may pay for the cost of the moving boxes and an hourly rate per worker, and there may be additional charges for packing fragile items. Stairs will also add to your moving prices. Lifting and carrying boxes and furniture up and down stairs takes more time and creates more physical labor for the workers. Moving companies may charge flat rates for flights of stairs, such as $50-$70 per flight. A moving company may also charge a one-time fee for moving things via elevator, such as $75-$100. If parking is not accessible in front of your home or apartment building, there may also be an additional fee for the added distance to carry your belongings to the truck.

How much does it cost for long-distance movers?

Long-distance movers transport your belongings across the country for you. No more renting a trailer and road-tripping from state to state with your entire house hitched to your bumper. Long-distance movers make the move happen so you can fly to your new home, suitcase in hand, and wait for your furniture to arrive. Nationally, the average price range for long-distance movers is $1,490-$2,230. The distance you are moving and the number of cubic feet the movers have to transport will both affect cost. Another factor in long-distance moving costs is whether you choose to pay for an exclusive move or a consolidated move.

In an exclusive move, which is more expensive, your belongings are the only cargo on the moving truck. The movers travel directly to your new house and deliver your belongings on a scheduled day. A consolidated move is more affordable because the movers transport your belongings along with those of other people, saving them time and gas — which means you save money. The downside is that your belongings typically arrive with a two-week delivery window rather than on a prescheduled day. Read reviews to make sure you can trust the company with your possessions to ensure a peaceful moving process.

How much does it cost to move a one-bedroom apartment across the country?

Professional movers can handle the hard work of moving your one-bedroom apartment across the country for you. You can determine what your move will cost by learning the rate your movers charge per cubic foot and how they factor distance into the total cost. Cross-country movers typically charge based on your belongings rather than apartment size because that determines how much work they will have to do. For example, a studio apartment that is crammed full of things will take more work and moving truck space than the contents of a three-bedroom apartment with very little furniture.

Cross-country movers may also have varying rates, depending on where in the country you are moving. For example, a company may charge $5 per cubic foot for consolidated moves along the East Coast and $6 per cubic foot for consolidated moves from the East Coast to the central states or the West Coast. A one-bedroom apartment costs approximately $1,500 to move across the country.

How much does it cost to move across the country?

The national average cost for hiring cross-country movers is $1,490-$2,220. A number of factors can affect the cost. One factor is the distance you want to move. For example, an East Coast-based moving company may charge $5 per cubic foot for consolidated moves along the East Coast and $6 per cubic foot for consolidated moves from the East Coast to the central states or the West Coast. Another factor is how many belongings you have. Most cross-country movers charge by the cubic foot.

The type of move you want is another consideration in cost. You can have your belongings moved exclusively and delivered on a set day, or you can opt for a consolidated move, which is less expensive. In a consolidated move your belongings are stored and transported with the goods of other customers who are moving to your general vicinity during the same general time frame as you. Your belongings should arrive within a one- to two-week window, rather than on a set day. If you want the cross-country movers to pack your belongings for you, the cost will also increase.
