Pat and her team are incredibly knowledgeable on the college prep process, from assisting to putting a plan together to finding the right tutor for SAT prep. It was invaluable for us to have the expertise to make the process manageable and clear. We are working with ColPrep for the second time now.

In only three weeks Alex helped me improve my GMAT score 60 points. For some reason, GMAT verbal was not coming to me naturally even after buying and using every online test prep company out there. Alex helped me go from a scaled score of 30 in previous official GMAT tests to 40 (90th percentile) on test day. He did a great job at re-framing how to think about and attack CR and RC questions- it definitely paid off!

Steve provided me with tutoring services for the GRE. I was very nervous about the GRE because math has never been my strong subject. I made an appointment with Steve and described what I was trying to accomplish (i.e. pass the math portion of the GRE!). I brought a number of problems and math areas that I was having difficulty with. We went over each and Steve did a great job explaining it in a way that made actually made sense. Once we exhausted my questions and concerns, Steve created new problems that were quite helpful. The funny thing is after all that practice I actually scored higher on the math portion of the GRE than the verbal! Long story short, Steve was a huge help and provided a positive (and at times fun) session. I took the GRE, was accepted to graduate school, and am actually in class right now!

My daughter needed some help with SAT prep, and Ms. Blaine was wonderful. She was able to help her identify what she was not understanding and provided effective strategies to conserve time while taking the test.

Anna worked with my son to prep him for the new SAT this past spring. She worked with us to meet in a mutually convenient spot, and was always flexible with scheduling. Our son needed the most help with the essay, and Anna spent hours prepping him on how to brainstorm, organize, and write the essay on the SAT in such a short amount of time. She also helped him with the reading and writing sections by identifying his strengths and weaknesses, and helping him figure out the best strategy to beat the test. We will definitely be using Anna again to tutor in English next school year!

About

What makes me different? I tutor professionally full time rather than as a hobby or side job. I absolutely LOVE my job, and it shows in the quality of my work. When I take on a student I am invested in giving them everything I can to help them succeed. That often means I stay a few minutes extra or go out of my way to squeeze someone in my schedule for the day. I am patient and give constructive as well as positive feedback. I'm young and can better relate to my students. I am very flexible and do my best to accommodate whenever possible. Over the years I have developed unique strategies for explaining steps in ways that students can remember. I focus less on the proper vocabulary, if necessary, and use common language that the student will understand. I feel it is the teacher's job to explain the why of math and teach vocabulary, but my job as a tutor is to make sure the students can do the work. I LOVE seeing the lightbulb come on when students finally understand how to do a problem.

About

Open communication, technical know-how, and a true passion for education are the fundamental qualities on which I have grown my tutoring business. Over the past five years, I have helped more than 100 students gain admission to their dream colleges and have averaged a score increase of approximately 260 points for the SAT and 6.5 points for the ACT. I have personally played a role in the lives of students who have earned admission into such institutions as Stanford, Duke, UVA, Cal Tech, Georgia Tech, UNC, and UPenn. Over the years, I have developed a very efficient method for identifying and addressing student needs using a curriculum that is custom fit for each student. This curriculum includes a carefully proportioned combination of test taking strategies and academic development. The key to academic success, in my opinion, is confidence. This is why I recommend and administer benchmark practice tests for every willing student during the tutoring process. Whether the topic is algebra, geometry, chemistry, or exam prep, a transparent record of student progress provides a boost to student confidence. As confidence increases so does student motivation and interest. The result is a positive feedback loop that drives academic improvement. In this manner, I have watched countless students change from unmotivated, average performers to stars in the classroom. It is from this process that my passion for education was born.
