FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
Most lessons are 1/2 hour, but it depends on age & level. Base rate is $60 per hour, with discounts for prompt payment (most people pay $54/hr) and 10% family discount. Beginner groups are $15/ lesson, and I do some pro-rating as a young child "grows into" a full lesson. Also, there are group lessons included with private lessons. Baby classes are priced separately.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I attend week-long training most summers (also, other short-term workshops throughout the year) to advance teaching skills & review repertoire.
- How did you get started doing this type of work?
I was asked to train for Suzuki Method while teaching piano at at a conservatory. This led to research in music learning (thus, master's thesis topic) and support / historical precedent for techniques used by Suzuki teachers. After experiencing both Suzuki & traditional teaching, I found Suzuki method to be most effective, especially starting at the earliest ages.
