Carol was amazing. I've never left the older dog, I have two, with a stranger. They loved her immediately. My VERY shy cat, with anyone but me and 2 or 3 others, came out of hiding with her. I was nervous about going this route but once I met her I was very comfortable. I felt absolutely comfortable leaving for 10 days. She went above and beyond, firstly, she took me to the airport, she took them to the dog park daily, medicated my older dog(oral meds), bathed them as well as cleaning up the house before I came home!! She's very nice, calm, knowledgable about many things and checked in with me about any questions. I'll be using her again very soon!!!

Ms. Froehlich provided exceptional dog sitting service for me while I was away for a week. She was a natural with my 6 year old rottweiler and went above and beyond the call of duty. She made sure that he had his daily walks, and the love and attention he deserved while I was away. I don't think he missed me at all. She even went as far as giving him a bath. I will definitely use Ms. Froehlich's services again.

I was new to the Wilmington area, did not know anyone and needed to travel for five days. I found Linda on Thumbtack and sent her an email. She followed up almost immediately with a phone call. We made an appointment for her to meet which she was right on time for and my dog Hooks took to Linda like they were best buddies. She came to visit Hooks once more before my trip and was again right on time the day I left. Linda stayed at my house while I was away and during the trip she kept in touch with texts and photos. When I returned my apartment was as I left it with the bonus of the Sunday paper waiting for me. It was clear from the moment I met Linda that she was an animal lover and very out going, respectful and responsible person. Linda will be the first and only person I call whenever I need to leave my dog at home. Thanks for the peace of mind Linda.

Great trainer, you were awesome with Chewie! The dog whisper is what we call you at our house! So patient and calm, I couldn't believe how you didn't say a word and the dog did everything you wanted him to do!

Allison is wonderful with our furry friends. I have a 2 year old German Shepard/boxer mix and Allison has taken care of her multiple times in her life time so far. No doubt about it Jade (my dog) is always excited to see her and sad when she leaves. It's different to make that type of an impression on a pet. She makes sure they get more than enough exercise as well has a breath of fresh air no matter the season. Allison is amazing!

My husband and I recently just moved to the Wilmington, NC area and had to leave town for 10 days and were extremely nervous about leaving our 2 dogs - a 190 lb Great Dane and. 6 lb. Yorkie - with someone new. After meeting Kate in person, I was immediately assured that they would be in very good hands. She kept a log of each time she came to the house and what all she did while she was there and would send me nightly photos of the dogs so that we knew they were doing well. I will be using Kate again next time we are out of town and would highly recommend her for anyone looking for a pet sitter!

I am different than most dog trainers. Instead of teaching the dog with human words, I work with the dog in his own language. I empower you,the owner, with the abilIty to understand from the dogs point of view. I believe that bad behaviour can not be fixed without the understanding of why the behaviour started in the first place. I have studied dog behavior for over 30 years in rescue. I also owned a grooming salon and then a boarding kennel for 10 years. I worked with several breeders and showed Chow Chows for a season. I have done Fundamentals1of Training Cesar's Way,a workshop taught by Cesar Millan. My passion is to help you understand what your dog is trying to tell you so that the relationship between you and your dog is a pleasure!

I would love to come to your home and walk or let out your dogs. I live very close to Porters Crossing Way.

I am retired nurse I am trained to know what to do when your dog has an emergency . Most people love my dog and allow him to come and play with their pet. I have many satisfied clients in Little River all willing to give references . I really don't need to advertise I have many client referrals and repeat business. I do not take large dogs unless I go to your house.

I do in your home or mine pet sitting and dog walking. I do canine agility classes, basic obedience, horse farm sitting, stall cleaning, feeding and show prep. I have 30 years of experience.

My name is Daniel and I love dogs! I am available to walk your dog, feed your dog, and provide love and attention when you are away!

Personal dog walker. My dogs want out for exercise, does your dog? If you need someone to walk them while at work, I am that person.

I love animals, and I will walk, bathe, and dog sit them. I will come to your home, or you can drop your dog at mine if you need a sitter. My Labrador mix loves other dogs and would enjoy the company.

Lexi's Pet Sitting offers a few basic services to help you and your pets. These services include (but aren't limited to) pet care, pet sitting, dog walking and basic pet grooming.

I specialize in animals with special needs. I have years of experience with house and dog sitting for days or weeks. I have worked with old and young dogs -- ones with diabetes, fresh out of surgery, strokes, as well as ones that can be alone for a long period of time. I have animals of my own and have learned that they love me, and I work very well with them and enjoy doing so.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What does a dog walker do?

We all know our dogs love going on long, adventure-filled walks, but jobs and family and commuting can make it difficult to give them the leash time they deserve. You can hire a professional dog walker to make sure your furry friend gets adequate exercise and outdoor time each day. A professional dog walker may be an individual contractor or work for a dedicated dog-walking company. In either case, you want to make sure the pro has the appropriate insurance in case of an emergency. Some people opt to give the dog walker a key to their house; others to have them pick up the dog from the yard. Dog walking can happen as often as multiple times per day, or just a few times a month as needed. Here are some questions to ask when you are interviewing a new dog walker:

  • Will you or someone else be walking my dog?
  • Do you have a backup plan if you can’t make it for a scheduled walk?
  • Will you walk my dog by itself, or do you walk several dogs at once?
  • What are your different walk routes?
  • When will you pick up and drop off?
  • How will we communicate?
  • Do I have to commit to a schedule or are you flexible?
  • What’s your cancellation policy?
  • What’s your response plan if my dog gets injured or becomes sick?
  • How and how often do I pay you?
  • Do you offer package pricing if I buy multiple dog walks up front?

How much do dog walkers charge?

The cost of dog walking depends on several factors including length and frequency of dog walks, the number of dogs on the walk, distance to your house, and any additional services you request. The national average cost range for a dog walk is $10-$20, but that price will vary based on where you live in the country and the regional cost of living and doing business.

The longer the dog walk, the higher your costs will be. Dog walkers offer a range of walk lengths, from 15-minute potty breaks to long hikes of 120 minutes or more. For example, a dog walker may charge $15 for a 15-minute walk and $35 for a 35-minute walk. Requesting that your dog be the only animal on the walk will typically mean a higher cost than if you permit your dog to be walked in a pack of dogs. You may be able to get a discounted rate if you have more than one dog to be walked. For example, a professional dog walker may charge $28 for one dog or $33 for two dogs on a 60-minute walk. If you need additional help — like feeding the dogs or giving them medication — dog walkers may be able to provide this service at an additional fee. Dog walkers may charge higher rates for walking your dogs on holidays.
