This winter my furnace had kicked the bucket during a cold spell, leaving me and my family with no heat. Joey came out right away to take a look at it, and resolved the problem quickly and efficiently. Not only was he prompt, friendly, and quick working, he was also super affordable and did repairs without breaking the bank! I would recommended him to anyone without hesitation! If you need HVAC work done, Joey is the way to go!

I called Tim to do yearly service for my furnace on a Tuesday, he said that he could be there that day, but, I told him that I couldn't do it today, but, I could make time for it Thursday. He arrived at 8:00 Thursday and he looked for cracks on my heat exchanger in the furnace. Luckily it did not have any cracks. I will definitely use Aaron's Heating and Cooling for my future HVAC needs.

I couldn't be more pleased with the service I received or the charge The response was immediate and he was here within an hour. My refrigerator needed a new electronic board and he came back that afternoon he even called various suppliers to get the best price and saved me $80. Brian is a personable young man who does all kinds of work. I had an outside faucet that needed to be replaced and he agreed to do that on the refrigerator visit. I am definitely saving his number and will call him for all my repair needs. It made my day to find such a helpful and honest young repairman.

When my air heating and air system went out I called these guys for an estimate. They came when they said they would on one of the hottest days of the year. They gave me the best estimate compared to the competitors. They put me on the schedule to completely replace my system in 4 days. As we were in the hottest days of the year, they brought me portable units to keep my family comfortable until they could perform the work. On the day of the install the first technician arrived at 8:15 am. Three additional men arrived within the next five minutes and began work. During the work, it was discovered that mold spores were found in the duct work. I gave permission to replace all of the duct work. This issue added much time to the installation but that didn't matter to these guys! They worked all day long in major heat outside and in the attic. One technician never left the attic for nearly 6 hours! They never took a break and only left for an approximate 30 minute lunch. They came back and got back to work. The last of the men left my house at 8:30 pm that night and I had a brand new furnace and air conditioner which I couldn't be happier with!!! These guys were AWESOME!!! I highly recommend them!!! They were polite, hard working and above all extremely professional in all they did!!! Many thanks to Jay Phillips (Owner), Brad Lanning (Service Manager) and the hardest working installers in any industry I've ever met, Mike, Hunter, Anthony and Matt!!!

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

    Who fixes furnaces?

If your furnace needs to be repaired, you’ll want to find a qualified heating, ventilating and air conditioning (HVAC) repair technician. Each state has its own licensing requirements; some require all HVAC technicians to have an HVAC license, while others only require someone operating an HVAC service and installation company with employees to hold a contractor’s license. For example, in Alabama, the Alabama Board of Heating Air Conditioning, and Refrigeration Contractors regulates licensing, while in Kansas there is no state regulatory body and HVAC licensing can vary by region. For simple furnace repairs like changing out a filter, a trusted handyman can probably handle the job, but a trained professional should be hired for tasks like replacing a gas valve, installing a new inducer fan motor or other critical furnace repair jobs that involve dealing with gas leaks or other dangerous conditions. For more, check out our tips for smart hiring on Thumbtack.

How much will it cost me to replace my furnace?

The national average for furnace replacement is between $1,800 and $2,500. The cost can range dramatically higher depending on the model of furnace you select, any repair work you require, your location and the cost of installation. Furnace installation costs can be more than the furnace itself due to the cost of doing business and the expertise needed to install the HVAC equipment. Installing a new furnace generally requires technical know-how and the proper tools and licensing. It’s best to hire a pro and budget for furnace installation rather than risk potentially unsafe DIY installation. This will ensure your home’s safety. Check to see if your HVAC contractor has the proper licensing to do the job. If you need duct repair or replacement, expect to pay more for your furnace installation costs. The price for duct repair could be an hourly rate ranging on average anywhere from $85 to $150 per hour, with additional costs for parts.

How much does it cost to replace a gas furnace?

The cost to replace your gas furnace will vary based on the type and size of furnace you select, labor and installation costs, and any repairs your HVAC system may need. Nationally, average HVAC prices for a heating specialist range between $1,800 and $2,500. It’s important to select the right size gas furnace for your heating needs. A furnace that’s too small won’t heat your house properly, while a furnace that’s too large will run inefficiently, cycling on and off and likely breaking down sooner. HVAC specialists calculate your exact heat needs by measuring your home and incorporating variables such as the regional climate and your home’s level of insulation. Retail pricing for gas furnaces can range from $650 up to $3,000 and more. The higher the AFUE (annual fuel utilization efficiency) rating of the furnace, the more efficient it is at turning fuel into heat and the lower your carbon footprint and utility bill will be. HVAC installation costs are often based on an hourly rate and can range from under $50 to over $100 per hour, depending on the company and the furnace being installed. Higher-end furnaces cost more to install because they require added labor and expertise. For a typical installation, it might take two HVAC installation pros one day or less to remove your old furnace and replace it with a new one.

How much does it cost to have your furnace cleaned?

To keep your furnace in good working order it’s important to have it regularly cleaned. The national average furnace cleaning cost ranges from $60 to $80, though prices can vary greatly based on where you live in the country and what your furnace maintenance includes. An HVAC company may have different rates for different levels of furnace maintenance. For example, one company may offer general furnace maintenance for $79 and advanced maintenance for $138. Another company may offer a 38-point maintenance check for $89 and a 64-point maintenance check for $178. According to Energy.gov, a standard furnace cleaning and maintenance visit can include:

    • Checking the vent connection pipe and chimney
    • Checking the physical integrity of the heat exchanger
    • Adjusting the controls to provide optimum air temperatures
    • Checking the combustion chamber for cracks
    • Testing for carbon monoxide (CO)
    • Adjusting the blower control and supply-air temperature
    • Cleaning and oiling the blower
    • Removing soot and corrosion from the furnace
    • Checking the fuel input and flame characteristics
    • Sealing the connections between the furnace and the main ducts

How much will it cost me to replace my air conditioner?

If your AC system is in need of replacement, the national average air conditioner installation costs range from $2,930 to $3,670. Costs can vary greatly depending on whether you are replacing a wall or window unit or a central air system. A central air system is connected to ductwork that runs throughout your house and pumps cooled air into your various rooms via vents and registers. A central air conditioning system is far more costly than wall or window units. Selecting a central AC system that has a high seasonal energy-efficiency ratio (SEER) will likely lower both your carbon footprint and your utility bill. The type of AC system you select, where you live in the country, and the regional costs of HVAC work, duct removal and replacement, and ductwork repairs that are needed are some of the main factors that affect the cost of new air conditioner installation. Here are some examples of average costs for installing forced-air systems.

    • Install Lennox 16 SEER single-stage AC unit: $5,743
      • Removing and disposing of the old furnace, moving and reconnecting the water heater, and installing a 3.5-ton gas furnace. The job took 18 hours of labor.
    • Installation of a new 14 SEER single-range cooling system: $4,000-$6,000
    • Installation of a new 16 SEER two-range cooling system: $6,000-$8,000
    • Installation of a new 20 SEER variable capacity cooling system: $8,000-$12,000
