I have been taking private chinese language class with Minna using Skype. In the beginning I was a bit skeptical about learning a language through Skype. After 10 lessons with Minna, I am convinced that learning through Skype is about as effective as leraning in-person. Minna's way of teaching was very effective. I learned new words and structure every time we met and Minna helped me to use them in our conversation in chinese. Her explanations were very clear and she always gave many examples. Above all, she was always very encouraging to me and makes learning Chinese enjoyable.

My focus is on spoken Mandarin, and have had many lessons with Zhong already. The lessons are always effective, and the progress made after each one is clear to see. You begin to speak and put to use what you've learned right away, and the methodology is very practical. Definitely would recommend to anyone interested in learning Mandarin!

Juan is a very good Chinese teacher, friendly, communicative and dedicated. She has a good sense for the problems that Westerners are facing when learning Chinese. Thanks for her teaching(almost 10 months), my Chinese has definitely improved. One reason whey I chose her as my teacher is that she speaks very clear and well sounding standard Chinese of northern China—which is actually the standard language of all China.

Lin is the best tutor I have ever encountered. She is always on time, absolutely professional, immediately gets back to me when I have any question, and she is worth every single cent! Lin is lovely, easy-going, personable, engaging, motivating, and extremely kind. No one can possibly find a better tutor! Lin single-handedly helped my son to be the best student at his private school (at his grade level), but also to keep alive an intense enthusiasm for both the Chinese language as well as the culture. Lin has an amazing sense of humor, which she uses to motivate her students. She is positive, hard-working and focused, and she helps her students to get amazing results. I can whole-heartedly recommend Lin to anyone who has ever entertained the idea of learning Chinese! She is a gem!

I've been taking private tutoring lessons in Cantonese from InspirLang's Ms. Woo for about 9 months already. I have to say that I noticed a significant improvement in my Cantonese. I love how each lesson is custom made around a particular topic, to address an issue I have, or based on a request I made. I'm a believer in speaking the language to get better at it, so a decent amount of each lesson is centered around conversation. Ms. Woo even provides audio and a lesson transcript so it's really convenient and easy for me to go over what was taught and discussed from the lesson. The customization of each lesson definitely makes the language learning experience more personal and you become more invested in your development. I highly recommend Ms. Woo if you're looking into learning Chinese (Cantonese, Mandarin, or Taishanese)!

Mr. Connor has been working with my children the last two years. He is an amazing teacher who is very patient and kind to my children. He is teaching them Chinese, singing, drum and guitar. Unlike other teacher we had in the past, Mr. Connor incorporate games and songs into all his lessons which makes language learning much more interest. My children adores Mr. Connor and looking forward to work with him every time.

Angela is a great tutor. I started not knowing a word of Chinese and now I'm approx HSK 5 level. 她是一个非常好的老师也非常帮助我提高我的中文。 Her teaching style is very effective. We started speaking only Chinese from the 4th lesson onwards, which really helped me with my tones and sentence structures. We spend 40% of the time on reading and writing and Angela helped me develop mnemonics for characters and for stroke orders. The materials she recommended were really useful and she augmented the syllabus with external media and readings. She also introduced me to different aspects of Chinese culture. We went to Chinese restaurants and Chinese shops several times to practise Chinese. Would totally recommend!

My teacher is very patient and understanding and since I'm an older student, learning Chinese is challenging. The classes cover a variety of topics that I get to choose which are interresting to me. This makes it easier to memorize the new material.

Melody is a great Chinese tutor! I've been studying Mandarin with her to improve my speaking ability, and she is really helping me a lot. She makes the lessons interesting and engaging, tailored to my interests, and pushes me to speak more, which is what I need most. I always learn a lot of new vocabulary at each lesson as well, which is great. If you're looking to learn Chinese or improve your Chinese, I highly recommend Melody.

Hui is an excellent teacher. Her lessons are very flexible and she was able to adjust to whatever topic I was interested in learning. She is also able to speak mandarin and Cantonese and would share the differences between the two dialects. I would recommend her for anyone from beginner to advanced level.

I have always been very interested in Chinese culture and language, and I had been planning to learn Mandarin Chinese for a while, though I kept postponing it because I heard that it is a hard language and I was a bit intimidated. It was not until late last year that I told myself that I needed to make a decision, so learning Chinese became my new year resolution for 2016. On the next day I started shopping online for Chinese language schools in town, and after quite a few inquiry phone calls and a couple visits, I decided to choose Mandarin House, which I realized later was a great decision. So I started as a total beginner in January, and I have taken both intensive and part-time classes and by now I have almost finished Level 3 and will move on to Level 4 soon. Mandarin House has its own textbooks developed by its R&D department, and I found the textbooks very systematic, practical, and learner-friendly. They cover a wide array of topics, from simple ones like ordering food, buying clothes, taking subway, sending mail, opening bank account, etc., all the way to more advanced topics related to Chinese culture, economic development, environmental protection, and so on and so forth. Meanwhile, I’m also deeply impressed by all my instructors, who may have various teaching approaches and characteristics, but all are very patient, enthusiastic, and experienced. Moreover, the three instructors I had, aside from being native speakers of Chinese, all have either a master’s degree or a PhD in linguistics or Chinese language study, so they were able to explain the grammar clearly and logically, which made it much easier for me to grasp the grammar. The class size here is also very small, usually just around 3 people, so each of us had plenty of opportunity to participate in class, and the instructors also kept encouraging us to talk as much as possible. We often practiced dialogues in class simulating real-life scenario, so our classroom was full of laughers and merriment. In addition, we also have quite a lot of practice on listening comprehension and reading comprehension, so I think that my speaking, listening, and reading skills are so far quite balanced. My character writing is still weak, but that’s because I have been primarily focusing on the other three aspects. That being said, actually I have recently started to practice typing Chinese characters on my cell phone (using an awesome app called WeChat) at my instructor’s suggestion, which I found not as difficult as I thought. So all in all, after months’ study at Mandarin House, I feel increasingly confident in my Chinese language skills, and I am going to continue my lesson here until I become an advanced speaker. Actually, now looking back, I cannot believe that I have improved so much in such a short time! Therefore, I highly recommend all those who aspire to learn Chinese, especially with long-term goals, to try Mandarin House, because if you want to be committed to learning a language, you should learn from the best!

    About

Currently, I'm an architect, having my own design studio in the city. My undergraduate is from the most famous art Institute in China. I started to teach painting and sketching many years ago. My mother tongue is Chinese, and I got a master's degree in USA in architecture, so my English is also good. That's why I can teach both art and Chinese.
