Joan is really professional. I initially started three years ago with a program of anger management and she changed my life in a fairly short time. Every session made more and more sense about what was happening. After the years i started again with weekly regular sessions for just talking and understanding everything is a better perspective. She made me love myself again.

Anxiety. Depression. Shame. I'd been clean and sober two years and I still felt awful. I called Alison because a friend recommended her. She's great! Accepting. Able to see what's going on with me even before I do. Now I still have bad days and uncomfortable feelings but I don't live with anxiety and depression, and I know how to take care of myself when those feelings come up. I tried therapy before and it didn't work. Maybe I wasn't ready then, or maybe the other therapist isn't as good as Alison. I just know how much better my life is now.

With this being my first time trying Reiki, Jill made my session very comfortable. I wasn't sure what to expect, and I was kinda skeptical about its benefits, but I'm happy to report that I left feeling very relaxed. I was surprised that I was actually able to feel the energy moving in waves throughout my body. My mind has been very clear (less anxiety), and I slept like a baby (less insomnia) since. After this session, I am now a believer in the healing benefits of Reiki, and intend to make it a regular part of my self-care regimen. Thanks Jill!

Larry provided an excellent experience. He walked me through the process, was patient with my questions, and has a very client-focused perspective. I would recommend CORE Remedy's services; after a 1 hour session, I noticed some major shifts in some of my mental blockages. For example, issues that would elicit feelings of anxiety no longer create that for me. It has allowed me to re-frame my perspective in order to be able to move forward in a more productive manner.

In New York, it is not uncommon for people to have relationship problems resulting in stress and anxiety because of those problems. I needed someone who would understand, and I found Gary Katz Counseling online when my insurance was not giving me the best options out there. It is worth the time and effort to see Gary. He has helped me tremendously, something I never thought a therapist would be able to do but I needed someone to talk to. He made me feel very comfortable, and let me know I was not alone, and every time I get out of a meeting with him I feel more confident in myself and healed just a little bit more. Definitely the best counseling I've been to.

I've been struggling with anxiety and anger issues since teenage years, and have tried therapy in the past but never stuck with it because I always found myself getting impatient with the therapists or the process. However, Dr Eskalyo slowly but efficiently helps me realize the benefits of psychotherapy, by digging deeper into my subconscious mind. She never makes me feel judged, or pressured. Scheduling is flexible, which works with my crazy work schedule. She's also very cooperative and patient with paperworks for my insurance. I highly recommend Dr Eskalyo, especially for those who are skeptical but would like to try therapy.

I started working with Carla during my three year divorce battle. The stress and anxiety caused me to lose weight and be distracted while parenting my two boys. The tools Carla used to assess my triggers and determine solutions were instrumental in my getting through the most difficult time in my life. I am forever grateful.

The NLP/Hypnosis sessions provided by Charles over the course of several months were a trans-formative experience for me. I suffer from chronic pain and anxiety. Charles drew upon his own life experience, NLP/Hypnosis technique, and an in-depth understanding of my physical and emotional history to tailor each session to my personal needs. Through use of visualization, breathing, and relaxation techniques I was able to enter a trance state which refocused my energy away from the area of my body in pain. I left each session in a healthier relaxed frame of mind and diminished pain. Charles also gave me the tools to practice NLP/Hypnosis techniques on my own in order to cope with what was ailing me at the workplace and home, and when confronted with stressful situations. He also provided meaningful insight which helped me to view my pain and measure my progress in a different, more positive light. I would highly recommend NLP/Hypnosis with Charles to anyone struggling with chronic pain and anxiety. -- Dana N., NY, NY

I've known Emily for a little over two years and am a better person because of it. She has an incredible way of looking at situations that help make them feel manageable, normal, and possible to change. They way she helps you walk through the things you're feeling and living allows you to take back the feeling of "enoughness" and write your own ending to the story. She's no BS, no judgement, and will empower you to live a life believing you can conquer shame, insecurities, and fear. Her belief in you will have a huge impact on your belief in yourself. She also changed my resume game completely. She took my resume and made it work for me and helped me land a job in my dream career within a few months. She know what employers are looking for and how to take your skills and prove to them that you are capable. Emily knows her stuff, she's an excellent writer and editor with a professional eye. She will do the job exceptionally well.

What are the types of psychologists?

Psychologists are healthcare professionals who use scientific methods to understand the relationships between the brain, environment and behavior. Psychologists may focus on research — studying how the brain and various environments drive behaviors to better understand the issues that trouble patients and society as a whole — or they may focus on practice — interacting with people using therapeutic methods. The American Psychological Association shares some of the more prevalent types of psychologists:

          • Clinical psychologists assess and treat mental, emotional and behavioral disorders.
          • Cognitive and perceptual psychologists study human perception, thinking and memory.
          • Community psychologists work to strengthen the abilities of communities, settings, organizations and broader social systems to meet people’s needs — such as improving support for victims of natural disasters, or working to improve health policies.
          • Counseling psychologists help people understand and take action on everyday issues, career and work problems, and serious adversity.
          • Developmental psychologists study the psychological development of the human being throughout life.
          • Educational psychologists concentrate on how effective teaching and learning take place.
          • Engineering psychologists conduct research on how people work best with machines.
          • Environmental psychologists study the dynamics of how people interact with their environments.
          • Evolutionary psychologists study how evolutionary principles such as mutation, adaptation and selective fitness influence human thought, feeling and behavior.
          • Experimental psychologists study cognitive processes, comparative psychology (cross-species comparisons), and learning and conditioning.
          • Forensic psychologists apply psychological principles to legal issues.
          • Health psychologists specialize in how biological, psychological and social factors affect health and illness.
          • Industrial/organizational psychologists apply psychological principles and research methods to the workplace to improve productivity, health and the quality of work life.
          • Neuropsychologists and behavioral neuropsychologists explore the relationships between brain systems and behavior.
          • Quantitative and measurement psychologists focus on methods and techniques for designing experiments and analyzing psychological data.
          • Rehabilitation psychologists work with stroke and accident victims, people with mental disabilities, and those with developmental disabilities caused by such conditions as cerebral palsy, epilepsy and autism.
          • School psychologists assess and counsel students, consult with parents and school staff, and conduct behavioral interventions when appropriate.
          • Social psychologists study how a person’s mental life and behavior are shaped by interactions with other people.
          • Sport psychologists help athletes refine their focus on competition goals, become more motivated, and learn to deal with anxiety and fear of failure around competition.

          What is a psychologist?

A psychologist is a professionally trained mental health professional who helps patients navigate challenging life situations or mental health issues. To become a psychologist you must earn a doctoral degree; qualifying degrees include a Ph.D., Psy.D. or Ed.D. To actively practice, a psychologist must be licensed in their state and maintain good standing. Psychologists are trained to administer tests that can evaluate a patient’s cognitive strength and weaknesses, intellectual skills, vocational aptitude and preference, personality characteristics, and neuropsychological functioning, explains the American Psychological Association (APA).

A psychologist meets with patients in an office and may work with a variety of methods, depending on patient need, such as cognitive, behavioral or interpersonal.  According to the APA, common reasons a person may visit a psychologist include:

          • Dealing with depression, anger or anxiety over a long period of time.
          • Help with a chronic condition that is interfering with their lives or physical health.
          • Help with grieving and other abrupt transitions.
          • Overcoming addictions.
          • Managing chronic illness.
          • Breaking old and harmful patterns of thinking or behavior.

Can a clinical psychologist write prescriptions?

To be able to write a prescription, a clinical psychologist must practice in a state that permits them to do so, and must either have a master’s degree in psychopharmacology or have completed the required advanced training program. According to the American Psychological Association (APA), five states currently permit psychologists to write prescriptions: Idaho, New Mexico, Illinois, Iowa and Louisiana. Many psychologists who are not able to write prescriptions work in partnership with psychiatrists, pediatricians or primary care doctors to help their patients who need medication.

          How much do therapists cost?

If you are experiencing a challenging time, have mental health difficulties, or just want professional guidance as you move through life, a therapist can provide relief, tools and structure. The national average cost for a therapist is $80-$100 per hour, although prices may be higher or lower depending on geographic location and the experience and training of the therapist.

Psychiatrists, psychologists and licensed therapists are all health professionals who offer various modalities of therapy. Ask questions about the type of therapy they specialize in (such as cognitive or behavioral, etc.) and their area of expertise (such as grief, anxiety, body image disorders, etc.) to help you find the right fit for your needs. Therapy sessions are typically 50-60 minutes long.  The patient usually meets with the therapist in their office; sessions may also be held remotely (via Skype, etc.) or in a clinical setting. Psychologists, psychiatrists and other therapists who have earned advanced degrees will typically charge higher rates than other licensed therapists. Depending on your diagnosis, your health insurance may cover your therapy costs.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
