I unfortunately wasted Mr. Allen's time as my heating system was not compatible with the thermostat I was trying to install. Despite not having any actual work done, Mr. Allen was extremely nice and knowledgeable and accomodated me with my unconventional schedule. Based on personality and professionalism, I would hire him again if I ever needed him and would recommend his services to anyone else.

Arrived on time and installed a Nest thermostat without any issues... was extremely thorough and provided a detailed explanation of our Nest thermostat, how to use it, etc. Also identified some issues with our heating and cooling system, which explained why our gas bill has been so high since we moved into our home about a year ago. Benny is very knowledgable, personable and professional and I highly recommend him. I will def be using this company in the future for my heating and cooling needs!

Connecting with Sean and having him do a service call was a wonderful decision. I made contact around noon and he was at my house on the same day at 5:30pm. My air conditioner was fixed by 6:00PM!! He was there on time, worked quickly and then gave me some free advice on how to make the upstairs of my house cooler. Outstanding experience. I will never use anyone other than Home HVAC Services for all of my heating and cooling needs.

I have used EP210 for various properties in Philadelphia from installing a gas heating furnace to improving the heat in specific rooms. There is no problem that escapes these guys. They always find the problem. What is most impressive is their honesty and integrity. Sometimes an issue can be solved by routine maintenance. They just take care of it and charge me the small fee for the maintenance. There have been times where I expected to pay several hundred dollars and ended up paying a fraction. Rey and his crew always finds the problem and charges appropriately. I never get a surprise high bill like I use to get in the past from other HVAC companies. I would send EP210 to my grandmother's house and she doesn't know English. Good gas heating specialists are hard to come by. This is one of the best.

Due to a previous hvac job that was done very poorly Matt faced a large job at my rental property. He had to reconfigure and install components of my central ac, furnace, and water heater. Being that the hot weather is approaching us, I knew since last year I was going to have to buy a whole new system, so I called all care heating and cooling so that it could be done now before the summer months hit fast. They installed a new system for me in a timely manor and with excellent work quality. All Care will definitely be my forever go to.

Nate was prompt for our appointment. I scheduled an appointment with Nate around 11:00AM for time period between 1:45PM and 2PM; he was there at the exact time. Although, I gave Nate a hard time due to previous diagnostic that was given to me, he was able to successfully diagnose and resolve the issue. If you need your job done right and with precision, I recommend Nate for your plumbing, heating and air issues.

Tom came and gave an estimate to replace my furnace and add central air to my old (over 110 years old) house. No small job! Other companies came out were very hesitant to do the work and their estimates had inferior equipment and warranties, but Tom and his crew were up for the challenge! They arrive early, spent the entire day at my house for the installation and at the end of the day I have a new furnace, central air and clean vents! They were great and I would recommend them to anyone!

I recently had Sears install a new furnace and central air system in my home. I received four quotes to have this work complete; and although Sears was the 2nd highest quote, I was impressed with Mr. Curcio's presentation, efforts and Sears' overall reputation. So I chose Sears because I truly look at this as an investment in my home, and I did not want to be replacing anything again in just a few years! I could not be happier with everything and not once have I regretted my choice. My gas bills have plummeted and I was given 18 months no interest to pay!

Mark of KAD Mechanical installed our central a/c and gas heater recently. Overall, we were impressed with Kathy's customer service, and Mark's knowledge and expertise in this field, as well as the time he took to install our new systems and to make sure everything was installed correctly and working properly before he left (after a VERY long day). Pricing was very fair as well. I would definitely recommend Kad Mechanical for your heating and a/c needs.

I am a Real Estate Investor. I buy and sell houses, some of which require extensive repair. I use Ovation Central to evaluate my heating and air conditioning and mechanical systems and perform repairs that we both agree are required. Great Job at the right price, and they do what they say they will do.

        Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

        Who fixes furnaces?

If your furnace needs to be repaired, you’ll want to find a qualified heating, ventilating and air conditioning (HVAC) repair technician. Each state has its own licensing requirements; some require all HVAC technicians to have an HVAC license, while others only require someone operating an HVAC service and installation company with employees to hold a contractor’s license. For example, in Alabama, the Alabama Board of Heating Air Conditioning, and Refrigeration Contractors regulates licensing, while in Kansas there is no state regulatory body and HVAC licensing can vary by region. For simple furnace repairs like changing out a filter, a trusted handyman can probably handle the job, but a trained professional should be hired for tasks like replacing a gas valve, installing a new inducer fan motor or other critical furnace repair jobs that involve dealing with gas leaks or other dangerous conditions. For more, check out our tips for smart hiring on Thumbtack.

How much will it cost me to replace my furnace?

The national average for furnace replacement is between $1,800 and $2,500. The cost can range dramatically higher depending on the model of furnace you select, any repair work you require, your location and the cost of installation. Furnace installation costs can be more than the furnace itself due to the cost of doing business and the expertise needed to install the HVAC equipment. Installing a new furnace generally requires technical know-how and the proper tools and licensing. It’s best to hire a pro and budget for furnace installation rather than risk potentially unsafe DIY installation. This will ensure your home’s safety. Check to see if your HVAC contractor has the proper licensing to do the job. If you need duct repair or replacement, expect to pay more for your furnace installation costs. The price for duct repair could be an hourly rate ranging on average anywhere from $85 to $150 per hour, with additional costs for parts.

How much does it cost to replace a gas furnace?

The cost to replace your gas furnace will vary based on the type and size of furnace you select, labor and installation costs, and any repairs your HVAC system may need. Nationally, average HVAC prices for a heating specialist range between $1,800 and $2,500. It’s important to select the right size gas furnace for your heating needs. A furnace that’s too small won’t heat your house properly, while a furnace that’s too large will run inefficiently, cycling on and off and likely breaking down sooner. HVAC specialists calculate your exact heat needs by measuring your home and incorporating variables such as the regional climate and your home’s level of insulation. Retail pricing for gas furnaces can range from $650 up to $3,000 and more. The higher the AFUE (annual fuel utilization efficiency) rating of the furnace, the more efficient it is at turning fuel into heat and the lower your carbon footprint and utility bill will be. HVAC installation costs are often based on an hourly rate and can range from under $50 to over $100 per hour, depending on the company and the furnace being installed. Higher-end furnaces cost more to install because they require added labor and expertise. For a typical installation, it might take two HVAC installation pros one day or less to remove your old furnace and replace it with a new one.

How much does it cost to have your furnace cleaned?

To keep your furnace in good working order it’s important to have it regularly cleaned. The national average furnace cleaning cost ranges from $60 to $80, though prices can vary greatly based on where you live in the country and what your furnace maintenance includes. An HVAC company may have different rates for different levels of furnace maintenance. For example, one company may offer general furnace maintenance for $79 and advanced maintenance for $138. Another company may offer a 38-point maintenance check for $89 and a 64-point maintenance check for $178. According to Energy.gov, a standard furnace cleaning and maintenance visit can include:

        • Checking the vent connection pipe and chimney
        • Checking the physical integrity of the heat exchanger
        • Adjusting the controls to provide optimum air temperatures
        • Checking the combustion chamber for cracks
        • Testing for carbon monoxide (CO)
        • Adjusting the blower control and supply-air temperature
        • Cleaning and oiling the blower
        • Removing soot and corrosion from the furnace
        • Checking the fuel input and flame characteristics
        • Sealing the connections between the furnace and the main ducts

How much will it cost me to replace my air conditioner?

If your AC system is in need of replacement, the national average air conditioner installation costs range from $2,930 to $3,670. Costs can vary greatly depending on whether you are replacing a wall or window unit or a central air system. A central air system is connected to ductwork that runs throughout your house and pumps cooled air into your various rooms via vents and registers. A central air conditioning system is far more costly than wall or window units. Selecting a central AC system that has a high seasonal energy-efficiency ratio (SEER) will likely lower both your carbon footprint and your utility bill. The type of AC system you select, where you live in the country, and the regional costs of HVAC work, duct removal and replacement, and ductwork repairs that are needed are some of the main factors that affect the cost of new air conditioner installation. Here are some examples of average costs for installing forced-air systems.

        • Install Lennox 16 SEER single-stage AC unit: $5,743
          • Removing and disposing of the old furnace, moving and reconnecting the water heater, and installing a 3.5-ton gas furnace. The job took 18 hours of labor.
        • Installation of a new 14 SEER single-range cooling system: $4,000-$6,000
        • Installation of a new 16 SEER two-range cooling system: $6,000-$8,000
        • Installation of a new 20 SEER variable capacity cooling system: $8,000-$12,000
Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
