It couldn't have been better! Manny is personable, talented and he knows what he's doing. He hung a two sided clock in my kitchen, a vintage mirror and window blinds. The mirror was somewhat difficult because of its age but Manny looked and thought and hung it beautifully and safely! I am very happy!

I am giving Varian an outstanding rating because he successfully resolved an difficult emergency situation despite some confusion in the process. He re-installed 2 very large heavy window air conditioners [24,000BTU and 18,000 BTU] I had in winter storage on a hot day when my regular installer defaulted. Somehow he was not aware at first that he would need a helper but while waiting he helped me with sealing up some other window frames in the apartment. He was cooperative and professional. He reinstalled the AC's in accordance with some of my particular requirements. The job cost more than I expected but was worth it. Next time I will make sure the service guy gets the job description from Thumbtack.

Great job handling some bumps in the project. We had 3 basement windows replaced. We ordered new construction windows instead of replacement, so that added complexity but Darin was still able to complete the work quickly and make the finished product look great. He stuck to his initial quote even though it must have taken him more time than expected. The job required a lot of tools and mess but he left things looking tidy. He was also very responsive as we set up the appointment. Would definitely hire again. Thanks!

David installed a french door and a custom transom window, with the frame for us. Before starting the job he gave us a very accurate and detailed quote for the project which helped me select him over others. He did a really good job and the whole setup came out to be very beautiful. He worked very hard to make everything perfect and made sure that the work was done within the deadline as scheduled.

Tony showed up on time and did a very nice job cleaning our windows and sliding glass doors. He worked very neatly inside the house. He was here for about 4 hours. Please note that a quote given over the Internet should be honored, even if there is more scraping than he thought.

I initially contacted Torino Home Repair, LLC through Thumbtack in the course of a search for someone to handle a window repair. As it turned out, when Mr. Luca Morello ( a native Northern Italian ) and his wife, Mrs. Angela Morello ( who ensures that communication is perfect ) arrived, we decided that the window job be put on hold awaiting the return of a tenant away on business. I found the Morellos so knowledgeable and easy to deal with however that I asked if Luca would consider another job I needed done --- hanging a number of heavy, fragile mirrors. Luca is a man of many skills and he agreed to look at the mirror job. Once he had assessed the job, he took preparatory measurements and gave me an estimate. I had to reschedule the work date, twice. The Morellos were absolutely gracious and patient about rearranging the time. On the day of the job, Mr. Morello arrived punctually, completely equipped and having obtained in advance all the materials necessary to accomplish the job, and having thought out in advance how best to approach it. He set to work immediately and worked, carefully, tirelessly, skillfully and intelligently until the job was finished, perfectly. No coffee breaks, no complaints, no cell phone talking or texting, no excuses, no short-cuts, no requests for additional pay, no distractions and no attempts to parlay the job into additional work. And no broken mirrors. He also provided solid advice when I asked his opinion regarding placement and positioning of the mirrors. The Morellos are delightful, honest and fair. Luca Morello's work is excellent. I highly recommend Torino Home Repair, and I look forward to future encounters with the Morellos.

I was aware that replacing my whole window was a possibility. After contacting numerous companies and being told repeatedly “sorry, we won’t come out for just one window” or “sorry, we have a $300 minimum to service you”, Anthony contacted me very quickly after posting my project and gave me a very fair price, broke down the possibilities and estimate for a new window. He arrived, realized the issue was just an internal jam, and was done in less than half an hour. Excellent worker; down to earth; fast; efficient; not out to scam anyone like these other guys who advertise in window repair but refuse service if it won’t cost big-bucks

Cosme did an excellent job of replacing 2 of my windows and tinting 6 of my front windows. His pricing was very reasonable and he was patient with me throughout the entire process. He even placed a guarantee with me and if any issues are to come up, he’s only a phone call away. Highly recommend his services.

Go Green Installed 37 large hurricane windows and doors on a house we were building. It was in the middle of the summer, and the windows (which are extremely heavy to protect from hurricanes) didn't make it an easy job at all. But these guys worked extremely hard and efficiently, i couldn't believe they were done within 3 days. We have and will hire them again.

I purchased a home which needed a total remodel. I contracted DNR to take on the work and they did an amazing job. I wanted to change the layout of the kitchen to add sliding glass doors and they gave me exactly what I pictured- I get so many compliments on my kitchen. I also wanted to change the half bathroom into a full bath, which I thought would be impossible. After knocking down some walls and breaking through the floor, they were able to get the plumbing into place to expand the bathroom add a glass shower stall. I couldn't be happier with the outcome and I always refer them to anyone I know that needs work done.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How do you replace a window?

You may want to replace a window if the glass has been damaged, you’re remodeling a room, or you want to upgrade your energy efficiency as well as your style by getting rid of those drafty single panes that are losing you money. When replacing a window, you can remove and replace the entire window down to the house frame. This method is best if the existing frame is damaged or deteriorating, but requires construction skills and know-how and will take more time and money. An easier and less expensive option is to install an insert replacement window into the existing frame. Insert replacements are only an option if your window frame is in good condition without rot or damage.

When replacing an entire window, first you’ll carefully remove the existing window with a pry bar and other tools. Next, you’ll make any repairs and adjustments needed to the existing frame or header and studs to ensure that the space is perfectly plumb and square, so the new window will sit perfectly within the space. Next, install the new window from the exterior, securing it into place. You’ll need to precisely wrap and insulate the window to ensure it doesn’t leak. Then, install the interior casing and exterior trim (as needed). If you prefer to hire a professional to install a window, consider replacing more than one window at a time, as the pro can work more efficiently.

How much is a custom window?

Choosing custom windows will increase your window installation cost but will provide you with exactly what you want. The average national cost for window installation is $2,650. Your custom window costs will vary based on several factors. The first factor is the type of frame you want. The four most common types of frames are vinyl, fiberglass, aluminum and wood. Wood is typically the most expensive option, followed by aluminum. The type of glass you select will also affect cost. There are single-, double- and triple-pane windows. Most double- and triple-pane windows have gas sealed between the panes that act as insulation. Windows typically cost more the more energy-efficient they are, though this efficiency can save you money on utility bills in the long run. The type of glass used can also affect cost. There are different grades of glass — high-performance glass, low-e coated glass, and more — which all provide you with better insulation. In addition, the number of unified inches (window height x window width) you need will affect cost. The cost of custom windows will also be affected by installation cost and whether any repair or construction work is required to properly fit the new window.

How much would it cost to put in new windows?

The cost to replace a window can vary depending on factors such as window size, type of glass, brand of window, necessary trim repair, and any construction work required for installation. Labor rates and cost to do business in your region will also affect the cost. The national average window installation cost is $2,650 per project. Here are some examples of average trim repair and window replacement costs:

  • Trim repair:
    • Line and case a window frame with an MDF product: $400.
    • Line and case a window frame with raw hemlock wood: $500.
  • Approximate cost to install five windows at one time: $3,000.
  • Approximate cost to install one double-hung, energy-efficient 3-foot by 4-foot window: $500-$550.
    • For the same window size (3-foot by 4-foot) from a different manufacturer made with a specialty fiberglass exterior and all-wood interior, the cost could go up to $1,500.
    • Pricing can go as high as $5,000 for a bay or bow window with specialty glass and framing.
      • These examples include removal and disposal of old materials and window.
