"I worked with 3 other trainers in the past to some success but felt that the training lacked the next level I really needed to help my dog live a happy and stress-free life... and then I met Mary Jean! Mary Jean of Canine Cure is hands down the best trainer. She has plenty of experience with over 10 yrs under her belt and she was previously a teacher which gives her the superpower of communicating her lesson/advice to you clearly and effectively. Mary Jean studied at the Academy for Dog Trainers under Jean Donaldson, who, if you've done your research, is one of the most respected trainers in the business internationally. Mary Jean is a force-free, rewards-based trainer (positive dog training). She covers a large area of New Jersey, including Jersey City where I live! She has a passion for understanding and helping fearful dogs and recently wrote an excellent article about fearful dogs in Bark, the Pet Professional Guild magazine. My training session with Mary Jean was to improve my dog Maggie's behavior outside. Maggie is a stress-ball once she steps outside and reacts in varying degrees to dogs, skateboards, loud noises, kids - basically the world. When Mary Jean came to my apt, we went over the initial notes I completed as requested and discussed in detail plans of action for everything from surviving thunderstorms, the importance of high-value treats, etc. Mary Jean explained what was going on inside of Maggie's head when she's inside the apt, outside on a walk, at daycare and it all made sense! We then ventured outside where Mary Jean worked Maggie using a clicker and high value treats to which Maggie quickly responded to. After our training session, Mary Jean provided a detailed recap of our meetings including homework. She answered all of my follow-up questions and best of all, I've been seeing significant improvement in Maggie's behavior! Only time and my commitment will tell but now I feel fully prepared and armed with a great resource to achieve my goal - to let my dog just be a dog!"

"If you are like me, I want to know if Bridget Gallagher is good without a lot of words. In short, my wife and I highly recommend Bridget for any issues you may be having. Even if you are not having issues, it was well worth the time to be taught how to handle your dog and to know what works with them. We had Sully doing more after 4 hours than 6 weeks of obedience classes.` Now for those who would like more info. Here is the longer story: We adopted Sully from a breeder in Maryland. We met Sully and his brothers and sisters at the breeder and fell in love. Sully was a very calm 5 ½ month old puppy that played well with his family and enjoyed our touch. His personality fit in perfectly. Sully came home with us and was an angel in the car. We introduced him to others and took him out to stores with no issues except he was shy. After a couple of weeks, he started barking and growing at anyone who came into the house and out in public. Our son, who is attending college, came home for a week and Sully would bark and growl at him every time he saw him. He never really warmed up to our son. This behavior seemed to be getting worse (nipping started) and we wanted to find someone who could help us. We were told he would be okay after going to obedience training which we were doing. The class taught us to give him treats. That never really did work. He would do the commands but it never helped with the barking and growling. I felt he had either a fear of people, lacked confidence or we were not doing something right. I owed several dogs and never had a problem. I reached out to a lot of trainers and dog behaviorists who said that they could help but I had seen mixed reviews with all of them. Some were using a prong collar and tough love. I just did not get a good feeling. I called my vet for a reference (who never got back to me) and others to no avail. I did some other searches and finally found Bridget. We saw her testimonials on line, talked with her on the phone and found other reviews not associated with her web site. My wife and I finally made a decision and had Bridget come to our house. When she arrived, Sully growled and barked at her when she met him outside. The next 4 hours were simple AMAZING. She explained to us what we had to do and how to do it. It was just SO simple. Bridget has a wealth of knowledge and experience with dogs and how and why they behave as they do. She is so committed to helping and educating you so you are able to work with your dog’s behavior problem. She even went with us to 2 pet stores to see strangers so she could show us how to stop the barking and growing and how to introduce him to strangers. By the end of the 4 hours, we had Sully: • Being introduced to strangers with VERY little barking and almost no growling • Staying in place with NO words – just hand motions and body language • Sat at the door and staying there without rushing outside – waited to be told to go out • No jumping or counter surfing Understanding how the dog thought was fantastic and so very cool. Just amazing what she taught us and what she could have us do that worked right away. The next day my wife and I took him separately on walks that met strangers and our training worked. He barked a little but we stepped in to stop the barking before the growling started. He calmed down and was able to greet the stranger with no issues."

Super Fine K9

Although my puppy and I had initial training at a storefront situation, I didn't feel that I had a good knowledge of how to help my cockapoo puppy to be a well-behaved and happy dog. Margaret has given us very specific tasks to obtain the right behavior. She is helping me to think like a dog so I can see how my behaviors are interpreted by my puppy. Each hour is full of hands on instruction with plenty of fun for my puppy and me. She is very encouraging and is a delightful person. We have worked on sit, stay, down, wait, hush (for barking) and most importantly to come when called in a situation where my puppy would rather chase that bunny or squirrel. I highly recommend her as a talented and professional dog trainer.

Joy/Gleeful Dog Training

Joan's approach to behavioral training is very integrated taking into account the dog's environment, diet, and activity level. It's so nice to have a trainer that can make additional recommendations beyond the standard behavioral instructions to include changes in dietary and health needs to improve the training process. We asked Joan for help with our Dachshund/Poodle cross after repeated accidents in the apartment. Within two sessions we were communicating with our puppy to understand when she needs to go out, when she just wants to play, etc. Joan has been a huge help, she's punctual and extraordinarily good with the dogs and brings a tremendous value to the process beyond just learning how to "sit." As with any dog trainer it's important to know that as the owner you're being trained as well requiring a good dose of humility. Joan handles this without condescension and always remains positive. I recommend her for training and general dog care consulting!

Casper Dog Training

Adam came to our house (a little bit of a hike for him) and helped us recognize and alleviate some issues we were having after introducing a German Shepherd puppy into our home with a 10 year old American Bulldog who has been an "only child" his whole life. After 3 sessions (1 per week) of working with both dogs, my husband and myself we identified what the issues are and how to handle the situations between the dogs. We had "homework" every week which if we hadn't kept up with, may have resulted in a very different way. A lot of our time with Adam was spent talking and figuring out what would work best with our individual situation and our specific needs.
