HIGHLY KNOWLEGEABLE AND AFFORDABLE !! Remarkable Experience !!! We had an emergency with bed bugs. The team was fast to react, guided us through the preparation steps, answered every question in full detail, and the treatment went off without a glitch. They are very discreet and use some high tech gear - honestly I wasn't expecting the amount of detail and patience that our exterminators put forth into making sure our issue was resolved. The treatment lasted several hours and in that time every inch of our apartment was thoroughly treated and disinfected. They used several methods from heat and cryonite freezing and injecting into the walls and outlets. We are due for a second visit and I have no doubt in my mind it will be of a preventative measure as there is no way our apartment can still have bed bugs with the way Gene and his team canvases the apartment. Thank you so much for being there for our family. Happy we made the right choice here.

I hired Bugged Out to take care of a bed bugs problem. They were the most affordable of all of the exterminators that I contacted and were able to schedule extermination less than 24 hours after I contacted them. They were quick and arrived during the scheduled time. The technicians were polite and thorough.

After noticing a bed bug in my house I immediately contacted a bunch of exterminators for pricing and for someone who I felt was knowledgeable and willing to help me understand and explain things thoroughly to me. It was the cheapest quote I got but definitely the most informative and as soon as they reached out to me I knew I was in good hands. As soon as jerry showed up it just made me that much more comfortable and confident with my decision. I felt like I was talking to a friend and even tho they didn't find a huge problem I'm very happy that it was taken care of before it got to be. I look forward to the follow up. Thank you so much for everything!

Mike arrived early which was a nice. He went over everything from earlier exterminator job to what he would be doing. He did the outside of house before he entered to do inside. The job was done well as of right now everything looks great. No weird smell or any signs of treatment usage anywhere in the house. Personally hoping not to have to call back for 2nd treatment but if need be Mike assured there would be no hassle. Very professional.

We found termites in our basement late last spring and after getting quotes from a couple of exterminators, we chose to go with Gus. Gus is passionate about pest control and termites in particular. He protected the perimeter of our house with termite treatment and also put foam and bait stations as necessary at the source of the infestation, which in our case was at the base of the basement stairs. Even months after getting our house treated, Gus would always answer my questions over the phone or via text and even stopped by one time to address one of my concerns. You can't go wrong with Gus and I recommend him highly.

I can’t say enough for “what’s bugging you?” After going completely crazy with other exterminators who did nothing but charge me lots of $ and never eliminated my bedbug situation. I got in touch with Fernando of “what’s bugging you?”, he answered promptly and destroyed the bedbugs, I will never use anyone else, and his prices are great. I highly recommend him.

Even though I was egregiously hysterical about roaches he was absolutely awesome. Came on time, professional, answered my ridiculous questions, explained everything-- got it all done. I had an exterminator come in a few weeks before and saw a live roach soon after so I'm glad I'll be getting the value for money this time. Would definitely hire again and would definitely recommend!

Very personable experience that you won't get from big box exterminators. No pressure sales and someone even took the time to call and advise me with a very unbiased professional opinion when I was deciding between a big box and a smaller company. Highly reccomend!

Thomas Skinner is a miracle worker!!!!! I am one of those people who never get around to leaving reviews. But given the circumstances, I really feel it is necessary. There was a very bad roach infestation in my apartment! Twice, exterminators sent by landlord came. Both times, there was no noticeable difference. I did some research and decided to hire Thomas Skinner. Almost immediately, the roach population began to decline. Within in a few days, there were very few roaches. By the end of the week, there were NO roaches. It is now about a month later and I have not seen a single roach. Thomas Skinner is very knowledgable, methodical AND most importantly, very effective. I am usually very skimpy in my praise. But I must give Thomas Skinner my highest recommendation. You will be glad you hired him

This review is only based on the initial visit. The exterminator came on time and thoroughly addressed my mouse problem. He was confident that his services would eliminate the problem. He also gave me a time frame when I should no longer see any mice. Before he left, he answered all my questions and offered other services, such as killing mosquitoes. I may give them a call next spring.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What do pest control companies do?

Pest control companies handle all aspects of bug, rodent and animal extermination or removal. Pest control professionals visit your home or office to identify the type of pest that is troubling you and offer various treatment plans — complete with clearly outlined costs. Once you and the pest control company have a signed agreement, the pro will begin treatment. Pest treatment can range from the use of spray pesticides and gel bait to live and/or kill traps. There are a wide range of types of pesticides, many of them nontoxic for humans and other small animals. This means you may be able to have your home treated for pests without harming nearby wildlife or your dog and cat. The pest control pro will carry out the treatment plan and, depending on the service agreement, provide follow-up such as emptying traps, inspecting access points, or reapplying pesticide spray if the pests return. Costs will vary based on the type of pest you are having removed and the extent of the infestation. The average national pest control price range is $80-$130. From a minor bedbug event to an entire home termite infestation, pest control companies have got you covered.

How do you get bed bugs and how do you get rid of them?

The increase in bed bug infestations in the U.S. is a result of increased travel, lack of knowledge about preventing infestations, increased resistance of bed bugs to pesticides, and ineffective pest control practices, explains the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). It’s easy to mistake bed bugs for carpet beetles or similar-looking bugs, so infestations are often not noticed when they first occur. Prevention tips include keeping areas free of clutter, regularly washing sheets and mattress covers in hot water (and don’t forget to wash the laundry bag, too), and vacuuming regularly and safely disposing of the sealed vacuum bag. Not everyone has reactions to bed bug bites, which also may be mistaken for the bites of other pests such as mosquitoes, so timely bed bug extermination depends on identification of bed bug activity. If you notice physical signs of an infestation, contact a bed bug extermination professional as soon as possible to learn about chemical and non-chemical (such as heat) treatment options. An integrated pest management plan may incorporate one or more methods.

How do you get rid of termites?

The best way to get rid of termites is to act fast. Termites are a problem that will only get worse — and no matter how much you want them to, they usually don’t magically move out on their own. There are three main types of termites: drywood, dampwood and subterranean. Drywood and dampwood termites sneak through cracks in your exterior paint, nail holes, and gaps near windows and other openings and begin to eat through your wood. Subterranean termites enter your house from the ground up by creating mud tunnels. In all cases, they survive by eating the wood of your house. The type of termites you have can steer the treatment plan.

Methods of termite extermination include fumigation, use of pesticides, and use of natural elements that are poisonous to the bugs. The extent of your termite infestation will help determine the treatment method. If you have drywood or dampwood termites that have infiltrated all aspects of the wood in your home, the pest control pro may recommend enclosing the whole house in a tent and gassing the termites via fumigation. If you have subterranean termites, often the entire footprint of the home must be treated by drilling liquid treatments into the slab or foundation of the home to exterminate the colonies. In any case, once you see signs of termites, it’s time to take action and call a pest pro.

What are the signs of termites in your home?

When you see signs of termites in your home, call a trusted pest control professional as soon as possible to handle the situation. Termites feed on wood, meaning they eat through the wood that makes up the frame, floors and other components of your house. Most people don’t know they have termites until they discover the damage done, because termites remain hidden underground or inside the wood they are eating. Keep on the lookout for these signs of termites:

  • Water bubbles in your interior or exterior paint: If you poke at what look like paint bubbles and find termite droppings inside, it’s a sign of termite infestation.
  • Frass: This is a fancy term for termite poop. Keep your eyes peeled for what look like six-sided salt and pepper droppings.
  • Mud tubes: Subterranean termites move between their earth home and your house by building mud tunnels. Mud tubes under or along the side of your house or foundation are a sure sign of a termite infestation.
  • Wings or swarming near your home: As a new colony is looking for a home, they fly (swarm), then shed their wings and burrow into nearby wood.
  • Softening of wood or hollowed-out wood: Termites don’t like paint, lacquer varnish or other wood finishes, so they’ll eat inside the wood and leave the exterior finish like a shell.

How much does it cost to remove a mouse?

If you have a mouse in your house you’re probably quickly researching pest control costs. Mice, although tiny, can transmit diseases and also get into your food and leave unsanitary droppings around your home. If you have seen one mouse in your house, it’s likely that more have taken up residence in your crawl space, attic or basement. The national average pest control cost is $150-$200. Costs can vary depending on whether you need to get rid of a population of living mice or just dispose of a dead mouse (or full traps), how extensive the mouse population is, and where you live in the country. Here are some examples of average pest control cost for removing a mouse:

  • $150 for initial trap setup and inspection (and sealing of entry holes).
    • $50 for rodent removal service calls and emptying of traps. This visit can also include identifying and sealing entry points that were not sealed on the first visit.
  • Rodent extermination: $110-$350, depending on how heavy the rodent population is, whether the mouse infestation poses health risks, how many entrances exist and how many rodent bait stations are needed.
