I decided to play golf again after a 20 year layoff, so basically I was starting from scratch. I spent a lot of time at a golf range and watching a lot of YouTube videos. That helps up to a certain point but after not seeing much improvement I decided to find a golf pro who could help me. After searching on the internet and doing my due diligence I decided on Joe Ubil at the Plainfield West 9 Golf club. It was the best golfing decision I've made. Joe has a great golfing background, is an excellent teacher, is very personable and takes his time to fully explain the intricacies of the golf swing. I recently played a round of golf and although I'm not ready for the PGA tour (and never will be!) I was pleased with my vast improvement. I credit Joe with making me enjoy the game once again. You can't go wrong if you decide on him to help you with your game. Thanks Joe!

Between Dennis and his father Yaz, I have been given an incredible experience in the game of golf. From swing mechanics, thought process and the overall love of the game, Dennis is by far one of the best instructors in the game and worth the time to spend with him to improve your own game.

Lee from Drop More Putts was a true professional and wizard with the golf club. He provided very effective and brilliant commentary on how to improve. I was a true beginner and he made me feel very confident and comfortable. A very good coach that I will be using for quiet a while I believe.

About

Golf Coach Direct provides a live, real-time online golf lesson teaching platform and recording center for golf professionals and students to meet anytime from anywhere. At Golf Coach Direct, you can meet with our team of PGA professionals live on the computer after every round. Each lesson lasts up to 10 minutes and costs as little as over $20, and you can take them when you want to! Our flexible schedule tells you when each professional has set aside time to teach live over the internet! Everyone gets better over time, but improvement can be accelerated in a variety of ways. Most people arrive at the course without any real form of preparation. They have a few swing keys that have worked for them before, but they are generally unreliable and confusing. Some people are mentally defeated before they tee off. Have you ever felt like you aren’t sure about what you are doing out there? For Example, if you were to pay $100 for a traditional lesson with a professional, he is going to give you a one-time lesson based on how you were swinging that day. In order to get an analysis of your progress, you need to invest another $100 for another lesson. Now, you have spent $200 dollars, and all you have gotten is 1 series of advice and feedback on the results of the 1st series. While traditional golf lessons have tremendous value if taught well, this is a solution not all golfers can afford. With GCD, that same $200 could get you 10 different live lessons with a PGA professional. Think of it as a totally different approach to golf. It is almost like cliff notes. You will be getting rid of the fluff (the chatting before and after the lesson, the loosening up, the video camera and range commute), the sweat (working on your game) and the tears (playing badly after the lesson), and you will be focused solely on the information you need to make you a better player. For the technology requirements, all you need is a digital version of your swing, a phone line and access to the internet. How does it work? It works by following these directions: 1. Record swings using either a digital camera or cell phone video. 2. Join Golf Coach Direct, and upload swing clips in any format. 3. Purchase lessons. 4. Book live lessons with a coach in advance or instantaneously. 5. Watch lesson replay as reminder. 6. Print personalized game plan to bring to the course.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What makes a good golf instructor?

A good golf instructor is someone who has the playing skill you’d like to achieve, is qualified to teach golf, and is someone you can get along with. Some experts recommend you only take golf lessons from coaches with active accreditation from reputable associations such as the PGA, LPGA, or similar organizations that focus on continuing education. You’ll be spending hours out on the green with the pro during lessons, so a good rapport, strong communication and the right personality fit are key. A proven track record is also important. Read reviews from their current and former students to make sure they have helped people achieve their golfing goals, and always ask about the instructor’s experience before signing on for lessons. Years of providing lessons can contribute to a deeper understanding of how to teach the sport. Just because your friend or partner is great at golf doesn’t mean they’ll give good golf lessons. Invest in a professional golf instructor who knows how to teach the sport from short game to full swing.

What age should you start golf lessons?

Golf lessons for kids can start as early as age four or five. They’re too young for formal training, but you can keep them interested and engaged and give them a feel for the game. U.S. Kids Golf recommends starting formal training for junior golfers at six years old. It’s important for young golfers to swing clubs that are the right length and weight for their body; U.S. Kids Golf provides a fitting guide.

Golf lessons for kids, especially young kids, should be about encouraging success rather than correcting mistakes, according to U.S. Kids Golf. If you want your child to love golf for life, you want their early experiences to be positive. Golf lessons for kids are less expensive than golf lessons for adults. A monthly rate (including four lessons) for group golf lessons for kids may average $100. Semi-private golf lessons for kids may range from $150 to $200 per month. Location and instructor reputation can also affect cost. Often, discounts are provided when multiple months are purchased at one time.

How much are golf lessons?

Golf lessons are a great way to break into the sport or take your golf game to a new level. The national average cost for golf lessons is $50-$60, but prices will vary based on what type of lessons you want. The most expensive golf lessons will be private instruction with top-tier coaches. These are golf instructors who have held high professional ranking and have a good reputation. Regardless of who is teaching, private instruction is always more costly than couples’ lessons or small group lessons (usually up to four people). Teachers often offer a lower price per lesson when you buy a package of several lessons at one time. Here are some examples of average golf lesson costs:

  • Individual lessons:
    • Standard pricing for 60-minute private lesson: $60.
    • 60-minute lesson with renowned golf coach: $100.
  • Couples’ lessons:
    • Standard pricing for 90-minute duo lesson: $100.
    • 60-minute lesson with renowned golf coach: $125.
  • Golf lesson package pricing:
    • Purchase six individual lessons at one time and save $10.
    • Purchase 10 individual lessons at one time and save $40.
    • Purchase six couples’ lessons at one time and save $40.
    • Purchase 10 couples’ lessons at one time and save $200.
