He's a very friendly and fun teacher. Knows what he's talking about, and is eager to help. His prices are also significantly cheaper than most voice teachers in NYC which helps a lot. I'm looking forward to working with him this month :)
Mike Shapiro is one of the best teachers I have ever had, period -- and I've had a bunch of good ones in various academic subjects. He is an outstanding communicator, his teaching methods WORK, and he sincerely cares about his students' progress. Add to that that he's a great guy, and you get the highest rating. Oh, and his rates are affordable, too.
Mara has been teaching my ten-year-old daughter for about 10 months now. My daughter loves Mara's classes and looks forward to them all week. Mara is engaging and helps Isabella to focus. She does age-appropriate exercises with her to warm up and then to tone Isabella's voice. She is open to teaching songs that capture the interest of my daughter. She is flexible about scheduling and available at different hours of the day and even on weekends. She is prompt at responding to emails and texts. Mara is a pleasure to work with and my daughter absolutely adores her. I can't recommend Mara highly enough.
I've always sung and I took lessons with top rated voice 'teachers', but they really weren't teachers; they were really coaches and stylists. Rae de la Cretaz is a true pedagogue. She is a teacher of rare abilities...a vocal genie if you're lucky enough to find her. Unlike, coaches, she will custom build your voice from the ground up. I thought I knew the basics, but I soon discovered after uttering one note in front of her, that I knew nothing. Here I had been focused on style, placement, phrasing...only to discover that I really had never even mastered how to really breathe, and that so much of singing is breath work. How so much of great singing is 'getting out of the way' of your natural voice. (Easier said than done). I also never realized how mentally challenging it is to learn to sing correctly. So, here's the deal. If you have a voice, you need to treasure it, and make sure you use it properly so it stays healthy all through your life. Rae will give you that. When you sing, she has her eyes closed, and can tell you exactly what you did in your body that hampered that perfect note. She knows where you were holding tension in your body, and she'll be right every time. Unlike many people who call themselves teachers, she doesn't just let you sing all the way through. She will stop you over and over and correct you until you're producing the right sound. She's tough, precise, and amazingly perceptive. You need to surrender your ego at the door, know that she is committed to your being the best you can be, and allow her to do her magic. Soon, you will be able to identify what you're doing wrong, and fix it yourself. But you must surrender to her teaching technique and have patience and faith. For that, you will be rewarded with a healthy rich voice that responds to your mind like a Porsche grips the road on a hairpin turn. If all you want to do is be told how great you are and sing songs through your whole session, Rae isn't for you. If you're passionate about being the best singer you can be, and you want vocal mastery, and you're eager to learn a powerful technique, then Rae is for you. Her teaching is universal, and you will be amazed how quickly you improve regardless of your repertoire. Classical, pop, rock, Broadway....it doesn't matter. Her methods are genre agnostic....Watch your range increase, watch how your notes float out of you as if they have a life of their own, watch how your resonance comes alive, learn to feel when it's right instead of listening for it. You will identify yourself as a 'singer' with confidence in the consistency, reliability, and health of your voice. Call her. She's also a very nice person, and easy to talk to. She's won't lavish you with gratuitous praise, but she gets very excited when you get something right. And you'll know it. One caveat: it took me two or three lessons to learn how gifted a teacher she is. That's because it took me a few lessons to surrender my ego at the door.
Pamela was first recommended to me by another voice teacher whom I had studied with. I was recovering from an extended bout with laryngitis and had become worried that I had hurt my vocal chords. At that session, Pamela carefully guided me through exercises and by the end of the lesson, she established that my chords were fine. That was well over a year ago. I am consistently impressed with her ability to hear exactly what is needed to bring the full voice to the fore. I have been studying voice for over thirty five years and have had wonderful teachers along the way, yet Pamela has introduced me to work that I have never experienced before. As a result, my voice is more free and robust than I thought possible. Pieces that used to be difficult to negotiate I now sing with ease. She is consistently generous and focused on the work. I highly recommend Pamela to any student lucky enough to work with her. Oh, and I like her name too!!!!
I'be been a bass player for 30+ years and I recently decided I wanted to take my playing to a higher level. My musical theory / knowledge has never been as good as it should or could be. I started taking lessons with numerous "Bass guitar" teachers but they were more focused on technique and that's not where my skill set was lacking. I found David First on Thumbtack and since he was located close to where I live, I decided to try him as my teacher. Long story short, best musical decision I've made in a very long time... David isn't a "bass guitar" teacher per se', he's a MUSIC teacher and that's exactly what I needed. He's extremely competent in his knowledge of theory and he's a very patient teacher. He's got a very chill, Zen vibe about him which makes studying under him very easy and peaceful. I can already see a major improvement in my understanding of what to play, when to play it and why it works as a result of our lessons. If you're looking for a great music teacher, I highly recommend David First.
I used Michelle's service to get my 9 year old daughter a singing teacher and could not be more thrilled with the result!!
I've had a few guitar teachers in the past, but Chris was absolutely my favorite. He was always supportive and encouraging towards helping me reach my goal, and he catered to what you wanted to learn. I myself am a big Taylor Swift fan, so once we got past all the basic chords and scales, he helped learn the chord progressions and finger picking to the songs that I chose. Chris has an incredible ear for music and he is a very talented guitarist. I would highly recommend his services, and he's also just an insanely cool guy.
Josh is a great teacher who can not only instruct a student in the fundamentals of guitar, but is happy to take the time to help a student play his/her favorite songs/licks. His strong music education background allows him to drill down into the music theory behind songs and I think makes me a better player!
A lesson will Jimi is always life changing. Every time I walk out of a lesson with him I feel like my guitar playing has jumped tenfold. The best music teacher I've ever had!
Gregor is a wonderful violinist and a thoughtful musician. As someone who has worked with him on and off for years, I'm positive he'd bring the same qualities into his studio and pass his love of music on to his students.
Viky is very friendly and a great teacher for both piano and singing. I highly recommend her.
Mr. Batchelor gave me lessons for the electric bass guitar. His teaching was set to my personal needs as a musician, rather than being forceful. I was able to quickly regain my confidence as a bass player and improved greatly over a short amount of time. The theory that he taught me through the bass helped me get into my college's music conservatory. I now study Music Studio Production at Purchase College. Very good man, teacher and mentor
I took lessons years ago and since then picked up some pretty bad habits. Josh was not only extremely knowledgeable but was extremely patient with me. He has a very organic and genuine way of approaching teaching that motivated and inspired me. Other teachers I've had were technically sound but had no idea how to impart that knowledge to a beginner or intermediate skill level. Josh is the whole package. Whether your a beginner or an advanced guitarist looking to fine tune your craft Josh caters his style to fit the skill level of his students. I consistently recommend him to my personal network all the time.
Kino is my piano teacher. She's not just professional but really cares about students. I learn faster with her because she's patient to me. I enjoy her class a lot.
Mattie is an excellent (and very patient) teacher! After just one lesson I'm already well on my way to my goal. Highly recommended!
Glenn is an amazing drummer and more importantly a great teacher and music mentor. He is extremely knowledgeable about his craft and is very patient and adjusts to any students learning pace. If your looking for a great drum teacher, Glenn is the right guy for the job.
Our family has been students of The Piano Workshop at Chester for more 8+ years. We are at-home students, so we are not always in the studio, but when we are, we are so impressed with the staff and the overwhelming love of music and dedication to passing that love along to the students. While our teachers have turned over through the years, the excellent talent and teaching skills have not. My son's current teacher, Sonia Kiernan, is a very special person, not only a very talented musician. How someone keeps a 15-year old boy's love for piano thriving like she does is beyond me!
Adam is an extremely intelligent and knowledgeable jazz teacher. He is incredibly proficient in jazz theory and has a very friendly teaching style that helps the student with feel, technique, theory and above all, instilling a love for the jazz art form.
Jared is much younger than I am he has a definite 'Gift' to offer to students on ANY age. He really knows his music and is able to share that talent in a Teacher-Student relationship in a very positive way. Studying Music and an Instrument can be tedious but with the right teacher the process becomes FUN and Practical. Paul G.
I have worked with Katie on several occasions as part of a vocal ensemble. She is both incredibly talented as a singer and choral leader. She has impeccable sight-singing skills, and her ability to go from classical to Broadway to pop/rock/folk music is seamless. A real pro!
