We needed a Life Coach to help motivate a group of 60 individuals in the insurance business. We didn't know where to look and interviewed many candidates in person & WoW; Mr. Stone came in. He had a confidence, fearlessness and inner strength that was second to none. Here was a Life Coach who just knew what to say and when to say it -- and how loud to say it! He analyzed the room very quickly and knew what was necessary to get these teams up on their toes. I must say some of his ways are a bit unconventional but it just worked. As said in his profile, "it is not the odds that kill us but the spirit that dies if one is not able to fight those odds". He installed that spirit in everyone in the room including upper management and the executives. Once in a while you meet someone who is a little different yet relates to those who are listening and understands what they need to hear to embrace the next challenge and better themselves. As he said, there is a formula that he learned as an executive through the years through trial and error that just works. His stories alone had the group mesmerized and his intensity was formidable. If you can get him to handle your meetings/conventions; grab him as he is well worth it. We couldn't haven't been happier as he even stayed a bit longer to answer individual questions from the audience on stage and alone.

Katie is amazing! She helped me set my goals in a realistic way step by step and helped me create a unique routine based on my needs and interests. She really digs deep to understand people individually. I was able to change my lifestyle for good with her holistic approach. She gave me ideas for exercises and recipes to do on my own while meeting with her 3x a week for an intense workout. I’m already feeling the positive impact in my life and seeing the results! Thank you! :)

Tom has shown that he genuinely cares about how, when, and if I progress. He is invested in whether I actually achieve breakthroughs toward my personal success. Considering that my goals are so immense: to metamorphosize an ashamed, unhappy, ineffective, & lonely guy, with limited professional influence, into a proud, happy, effective, socially fulfilled, & profoundly influential version of myself, it would have been easy for him to give up on me. Even though I'm confident many life coaches in his position would have terminated our relationship months ago, dealing with such a high-maintenance client as myself - expressing to him hundreds of suggestions / criticisms / requests, expecting a personalized experience that caters to my individual needs, and offering frequent pessimism or guarded skepticism at best - he has been patient, flexible, & determined to support my progress. It has been several months since Tom started coaching me, and I have consciously delayed writing a review until I might have a sense not just that he cares and won't give up (after all, that's part of the job description), but that he will actually help me transform myself, in ways that countless others haven't. I have worked with therapist after therapist for years & years, undergone treatment with psychiatrists, hired dozens of countless project collaborators and personal assistants, and tried more times than I can remember to count on the support of family and friends in order to help me make the steady progress needed to break out of a deep debilitating personal rut that has lasted for decades. All of the above have been unsuccessful. I naturally wasn't expecting Tom to be any different. But I gave him a shot, deciding that I deserved a chance for renewed hope. I almost gave up on him and on myself, but he didn't give up on either. And finally, after months of 'blood, sweat, and tears,' I have come to believe there is hope at the end of the tunnel. I'm beginning to make steady transformative progress, and I'm looking forward to the journey that lies ahead. Prerequisites for success: I have to be patient, make a few reasonable leaps of faith, and make an investment in my future, emotionally and financially. I also have to be an active participant and be willing to gradually take the reins myself. I finally have to accept his limitations, while recognizing and counting on his strengths. His limitations: Tom is not a miracle worker, and in comparison to others I've worked with, he's not the most charismatic, inspiring, eloquent, forward, original, perceptive, intellectual, tech-savvy, exciting, or assertive. But his STRENGTHS far outweigh these limitations: He is persistent in his efforts. He is determined to be an ally on the road to victory, offering extra support when needed, never conceding defeat. He is compassionate, showing empathy for my experiences & struggles, frustrations and pain, & and my initial often-pessimistic attitude. He is patient, and will put in the time to understand, listen, and reevaluate / regroup when necessary. He is humble and modest, not expecting recognition, praise, notoriety, credit, or gratitude for going above and beyond. He is affordable, & ends up charging far less money than he could for his time, and far less than any of the other life coaches I considered, let alone being a mere fraction of the cost of a therapist or psychiatrist! He is respectful, as a friend would be, but sensitive & honors any boundaries I set. He never speaks down to me. He is honest, and when requested, very candid about what he thinks needs improvement, more, focus, or a shift in perception. He doesn’t rub me the wrong way as a salesman might, as though I’m a source of income, but always treats me like a person who deserves to achieve his dreams. He is passionate about helping people. He works very hard, often going above and beyond what others would do, putting his clients ahead of his personal life. He is fair, respects agreements, honors his word, readily forgives, and shows lenience. He is creative, willing to try to approach problems from new perspectives and angles. He is open-minded, willing to work with approaches and systems he’s unfamiliar with that I know are likely to be effective. He is trusting, and gives me the benefit of the doubt, while also helping me to become more accountable. He is reliable, and I have been able to count on him in ways I couldn’t count on therapists, employees, mentors, friends, & family. His system of "open access" helps me throughout the week, and this unique system of coaching has been the key to my success, helping me beat procrastination and not lose sight of my goals. He is flexible, & accommodates limitations, changes, and conflicts with my schedule, deficiencies in my attitude, and treats my perceived failures like learning opportunities to take a new, more promising approach. He is resilient, and puts up with much more than necessary for someone in his position, and never complained once to me about it. Finally, he is kind, complimentary, and friendly. He's like that 'conscience on your shoulder.' I would recommend him to anyone who is considering hiring a life coach, or to anyone who has unfulfilled dreams they know they deserve to and could achieve, but haven't. Thank you, Tom, for your efforts, and quality work :)

I recently started training with Carlos and he’s exceeded all my expectations. I’ve been training for over 20 years and am in pretty good shape, but wanted to get my body to the next level. Since I never worked with a trainer before, I was not sure what to expect. Carlos is truly amazing and I mean it! He has a terrific demeanor, exceptional motivator, inspiring and has innovative approaches to driving results. In a short period of time, he has taught me creative methods to shocking my body. Additionally, he provides guidelines for clean eating along with a training regimen you can do when you’re not with him, to keep the momentum going. I really believe what sets him apart from other trainers is that he genuinely cares…During one of my workouts, I arrived on an empty stomach and immediately, he brought me a protein shake to ensure I was properly fueled up for a hardcore workout!! He won’t EVER let you give up and does an excellent job at picking you up, when you are down. I would LOVE to train with him Forever & Ever, because, YES, he’s that GOOD! Everyone needs a ‘Carlos’ in their life. -Cherline Beveridge

He shares his expertise and his experience with you to make the sessions fun, challenging, and a learning experience. He is not only professional, incredibly knowledgeable about exercises and movement but Mason's charisma is infectious. He truly wants to see you succeed, maybe even more than you do. He sends awesome motivational messages to his trainees and always follows up. If you want a life changing trainer, Mason is your guy!!

We're off to a great start! I just signed on for a 3 month life coaching cycle with Jerry and am very pleased. I had my 1st coaching skype session earlier this week and gained much clarity and many useful takeaways both through our session and through the discovery questionnaire she gave me to do prior. Life is already feeling better. Jerry is very responsive, kind and professional!

I have a couple of degrees and a decent job, but I didn’t feel like I was having the success in my career that I thought I should. I felt like I kept doing things that got in the way of doing better. I am a fairly stubborn person, so of course I thought I could solve my problems myself. The problem with that thinking is that unless you understand why you are having issues, you will continue to keep going down the same road. I had heard about life coaches and thought I would give it a try. The first couple of coaches I tried weren’t a good fit for me. I didn’t really feel comfortable working with them because they didn’t actually get to know me to understand what was going on with me. Then I met Dancer for Life. I knew right away I had met the right coach! She had a way of making me feel comfortable and helped me begin to recognize some of issues I was facing. I am a little defensive at times (well, maybe a lot defensive), but Beth was able to talk with me in a way that I could be really honest with her and myself. That was a very important beginning! From there we worked together to develop a plan that would help me with my problems in my career. I think the collaborative approach was the key, because if she had given me a “one-size-fits-all” plan, it wouldn’t have worked for me. I came to grips with the fact that I was really bad with procrastination. I also had difficulty taking constructive criticism, which was incredibly important to resolve if I was ever going to advance in my career. There were some setbacks here and there, but Beth worked with me through it all and equipped me with the tools and skills to get back on track and make big improvements in my life. Today, I am in a much better spot and am having great success in my career. I’ve even gotten two promotions! More importantly, the skills that Beth helped me developed have even assisted me in other areas of my life. I am so glad I reached out to Dancer for Life and am proud to feel like I am one of her successes. If you want to make some changes in your life, I highly encourage you to reach out to Beth, the Dancer for Life. You will be very happy you did. When you do, be ready to take a positive step in your life!

I have been working with Toni for almost two years and Diet Alternatives is a 'real life' program. It's not a diet, it's a lifestyle. When you read through the literature, put it into practice and speak with Toni - it just makes sense and it works.Just like all of us with weight related issues, she talks the talk and walks the walk everyday. I have been a yo-yo dieter since my teenage years and have tried every diet out there. With Toni, I have lost the majority of the weight and although I am still a work in progress,Toni's one-on-one approach and Diet Alternatives has made the difference.

My experience has been fantastic- a life changing experience, having her to assist me with re-building my body and strengthening those areas that have been weakened since my knee replacement in the month of May 2015, Before I could get any Physical therapy Shayla gave me some exercises to do until I could get the help needed. She helped me to have stronger arm strength and stronger strength in my left leg to help me support my body. I can't thank her enough for her continuous help as she is still assisting me, although I am now in physical therapy. Having her has made me feel stronger and more confident with working out. I look forward to the continous change and feeling with working out, which I never did before. I would recommend her to help those who are ready to make a change in their health and lifestyle.

Kevin is truly a ' best in world' trainer. I can't say enough about Kevin but please read this and hopefully you'll have a better idea of how he has changed my life on a very personal level. I have severe health issues and take lots of medicine. My doctors told me i need to work out with someone who can handle the complexities of my case to build bone density and I was lucky enough to find Kevin. He is like a personal trainer, chiro, physical therapist and friend all wrapped up on one. He is so committed to helping me have the best quality of life and so well versed on many things I trust him implicitly and consider him part of the core team working to make me better. I've had the oppty to work with trainers in many states who were all supposedly the best and can say that Kevin is in a league of his own. He is so creative and comes up with a different ways to challenge me, make it fun, change it up, incorporate things to help build core and posture overall and bring things into the mix like boxing that he knows I really like. I truly look forward to our sessions and always feel better afterwards, it's been great to see the progress and my doctors are thrilled that I was so lucky to find him- he has blown away any expectations. Whether you have health challenges or are training for the army or wanna look good for your wedding or the summer bathing suit season Kevin will not only help you achieve your goals but will quickly become part of your way of life. I can't say enough about Kevin and his dedication, expertise, continual desire to learn more ways to help and just being a cool guy and easy to laugh with-if you are lucky enough like me to work with Kevin you should jump at the oppty! Seriously, he is worlds best trainer.

What differentiates Emily from her rest is not only the results of her healing and balancing techniques but the transfer of knowledge to her clients. Priya is a great health coach. She personalized my journey to my target weight with realistic goals and a diet plan. She is understanding of the struggle a person can go through and is kind and is a good listener. A lot of that is because she went through a successful massive weight loss herself. She knows how important it is to be resolute and stay on the right path to a healthy weight loss. She believes in constant communication through appointments and through emails. Thanks Priya!

His words came from a deep place and has helped me “change course” in many areas of my life. He’s warm and very professional and has a good heart. James is incredible. He's a powerful force that'll challenge you (in a loving way) to move towards the life of your dreams. He's helped me make more money (a few hundred more a month) doing what I love. He's helped me see my worth and value myself more - and I've been extra proactive on growing my business. He's inspired me to take care of my body more, and because of that I feel healthier and stronger than I have in months. I highly recommend him as a Life Coach to anyone -- he'll get you where you want to go - and fast!

Jimmy was always very professional and took each session seriously. There was a different, personalized workout every time, which was refreshing compared to some other trainers I have worked with. He was very knowledgeable and was able to answer all of my questions as I was new to working out. I saw results quickly while Jimmy was my trainer and actually had muscle definition for the first time in my life. I definitely recommend him for any of your personal training needs.

At the age 47 and a little out of shape, I needed to get in top physical shape for a police academy. (In New Jersey the age limit for police officers is 35, but there is no age limit for correction and sheriffs dept)...... so I new if I wanted this job in corrections, I had to be ready, and if anybody has been to any police academy, you know it's a para military atmosphere. Screaming at you from day one, not caring about your feelings. Their only concerns is that you will be physically and mentally strong in law enforcement environment. The first Day I walked in, I talked to Bob about my mental and physical weaknesses, and he told me not to worry, and to listen to everything he had to say moving forward. I literally felt at ease from that moment on. Now it wasn't always easy, Bob pushed my mental and physical abilities beyond I thought I could ever reach, and after 6 months of running, sprinting,spinning,rowing,pull-ups, push-ups, weight training, jump roap, etc., I found myself in the best physical and mental shape of my life. Bob is more than just a trainer, he is a trainer, a life coach, a friend, (and even an enemy, lol when he had to be). I am proud to say that on July 12, 2016 I graduated as a New Jersey Juvenile Justice Commission corrections officer, cycle 29 and have been working in the jail ever since, and I couldn't be happier about my new career in law enforcement, but most of all, I couldn't of been happier about the choice I made walking into Bob's studio, because I know I could have never done it on my own. Sometimes in life we need a little help to get to the next level, and that's why I made the investment in myself to get to the next level with Bob Pelsang!!!!! Sincerely, S.C.O. T. Venezio

I was extremely happy with Meena's skills of French and of the English language. I was able to pass my college level English and French classes with high 90's. I received A's in both my classes. She is very much interested in the student's success and takes genuine interest in the work. Meena has a lot of patience when she teaches and is able to relate to the student's situation in any level. I am sure that whatever subject she teaches, Meena will help people excel in the subject matter. She also was a life coach for me. She helped me to understand that good study habits and good overall skills in life are necessary to succeed. Getting good grades is not good enough, but your attitude makes all the difference. I would recommend Meena as a tutor as well as a life coach.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a health coach?

A health coach is a service provider you can hire to help you realize your wellness goals. You can hire a health and wellness coach to guide you through life changes, keep you focused on weight loss or fitness goals, help boost your mental health, and more. Many health coaches work with their clients for set periods of time as the client moves toward a measurable goal. Wellness coaches come from varying backgrounds, and may have different areas of focus depending on their education and training. Research potential coaches by reading their reviews, researching their academic and personal backgrounds, and learning about any certifications they have earned from coaching institutes. Often, health and wellness coaches sell coaching packages ranging from three to six months or longer, depending on the client’s needs. The average national cost for an individual health coach session ranges from $60 to $90, although prices may range as low as $30 or up to $130 or more, depending on your location and the coach.

What is a life coach?

A professional, accredited life coach works with people to help them make important changes in their life, either growing in their profession or changing gears in their personal lives. They help clients turn their dreams or wishes into realistic, attainable goals. They guide people through the process of making life changes by helping them evaluate the steps they must take to reach a particular goal, then help them decide how — and whether — to take those steps in the most efficient, effective and rewarding way possible. A life coach acts as a motivator, strategist and accountability partner. Unlike a therapist, a life coach doesn’t help solve problems from your past — they’re focused on helping you move forward with new ways of acting and thinking that will help you reach your goals. Some people specialize in particular types of life coaching, including life balancing coaches, small business coaches, executive coaches and personal finance coaches. Some meet clients in person, while others hold consultations over the phone.

Regardless of which type of life coach you’re interested in, make sure the person holds an International Coach Federation (ICF) credential. There are three tiers of credentials: Associate, Professional and Master, which require coaching experience ranging from 100 hours to 2,500 hours.

How much does a life coach cost?

A life coach helps clients set and reach professional and personal goals, develop positive habits, and deal with stress. Some people meet with a life coach once or twice, while others form an ongoing professional relationship, meeting regularly in person or on the phone. The average national cost to meet with a life coach ranges from $80 to $130 an hour. Some coaches offer per-session pricing, especially for one-time meetings; expect to pay an average of $100-$125. People who want to work with a coach over a period of time to explore life transitions, career growth or lifestyle changes may be able to get discounted pricing in a package. For example, three 60-minute sessions cost an average of $300, four 60-minute sessions cost an average of $350, and four 60- to 90-minute sessions plus unlimited contact between sessions cost an average of $400. Some specific types of coaching, such as relationship or marriage coaching, cost more than standard life coaching. For instance, three 60-minute relationship coaching sessions cost an average of $500, four 60-minute sessions cost an average of $550, and six 60- to 90-minute sessions cost an average of $650 when purchased as a package. Training and experience can also affect the cost of hiring a life coach. An Associate Certified Coach, who holds a certification that requires only 60 hours of training and 100 hours of coaching experience, will charge less than a Master Certified Coach, who typically has at least 200 hours of training and 2,500 hours of coaching experience.

Why get a life coach?

People of all ages and in all careers have called in a life coach. Life coaches are accredited professionals who can help you figure out the tangible changes you can make in your life to reach your goals; they can even help you turn your dreams into goals, if you’re not sure where to go next. A life coach can also help people find their purpose in life. Life coaching clients often have an idea of what they want to do, such as help people or work with animals, but don’t know how to turn that passion into a career. A life coach can help clients work through the options to find a clear path with concrete steps that lead to an attainable goal. A life coach can also help clients make a major career change, such as starting a new business. Life coaches can help clients develop better habits that will make them more successful, acting as an accountability partner. Life coaches also often guide their clients through major transitions in life, such as a career change or other stressful situations that are made easier with guidance from a neutral third party.

What is a holistic wellness coach?

When you want to reach new heights with your health and wellness, consider hiring a holistic wellness coach. Much like a health coach, a holistic wellness coach is focused on your well-being and meets with you in one-on-one sessions to help you identify and reach your targeted goals. A holistic wellness coach will typically have you take all components of your life into account when working to achieve your goals. If your goal is to lose weight, a holistic wellness coach will not only offer recommendations for your diet and exercise, but also discuss your emotional health, your work/life balance, your spiritual side, and each area of your life that affects your ability to follow a nutrition and fitness plan.

Although they are highly motivational and often can help clients achieve great results, holistic wellness coaches are not professional health care providers or registered dietitians. Different institutes and training centers provide certifications for holistic wellness coaching, so be sure to research your coach and read their reviews to understand more about their techniques and training.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
