Very professional and clean setup. Great props. Prompt and courteous staff. The booth was so nice to have at my event. The video monitor on the outside of the booth allowed guests to see what was going on while people were waiting in line for their turns to take photos. This feature helped to build excitement. The ability to upload pics to social media sites on the spot was a hit! The slap wrist band Flash Drive was pure genius and an unexpected special touch as well. The manager from the Hilton (where our event was held) was so impressed that she asked for their business card to use RJC Studios in the future. I am very a particular person, and I was pleased with this company's service.

Neil Blake filmed my daughter's baby shower at 59th Street & Madison Avenue, New York, NY. He was extremely personable, friendly, and outgoing! While it is customary for many videographers to ask guests to say a few words, Neil asked the guests pointed questions which made the guests very relaxed about answering. He was constantly moving around and capturing soooo many special memories from that extremely special day! I would definitely recommend him and hire him again!

Unfortunately, Thumbtack only gives me the ability to rate on a scale of 1-5 stars... for Maria, there should be an option to rate her 100 stars!! She was so incredibly communicative and invested in the success of the event she was photographing. While it sounds corny, I could feel that she genuinely cared about us and our guests, and about capturing the moments as well as she could. Her communication and involvement aside, she is also an amazing photographer. All of her photos were of the highest quality, and she captured various moments with all of the 80+ guests we had for our party. I could not recommend Maria with enough enthusiasm and conviction... if you're looking for a caring professional to capture the special moments of an event you're holding, then there is NO other option- Maria is the photographer for the job!!

It was a pleasure working with John and his team. The quality of work is excellent and so is the customer service. John was very helpful and on point with everything. The video for my daughters first birthday is great. I will definitely use again for other events and will recommend to my friends and family that need a videographer for an event.

Bin videoed my daughter's Bat Mitzvah. She was professional and pleasant, but I was worried that the video wouldn't be excellent quality because of the low light in the venue. Bin repeatedly asked to have the lights turned up and happily the video turned out nicely. My only real complaint is that Bin was more of an observer versus other videographers who tend to get people excited to be on camera.

Can't say this with enough enthusiasm and gratitude, but working with Luc was PHENOMENAL! From the get-go, Luc is fantastically professional, easy-going, and thoughtful (a true saint especially for entertaining and attentively supporting my multiple questions, ideas and correspondences during the planning process.) Pre-event to post-event, Luc's enthusiasm and sincerity in his engagement was so refreshing to work with. He showed up extra early to calibrate with my team and the space, and also generously stayed later when our event went over-time. As a golden creative professional, Luc's a TRUE ARTIST. You would think that there are limits to how fascinating a standard presentation/networking event can be when it comes to photography... With that said, Luc's got an innate poetic eye and intentional pronounced vision for story-telling. Our event photos came out beyond expectations - in the energy, emotions and moments that were expressively captured and translated through his lens. In a heartbeat, we'll be recommending Luc to folks and will be returning to collaborate with him on multiple events within our pipeline. As a start-up solidifying our brand and growth through these events, we couldn't be happier to have found a video/photo artist who can so intimately understand our evolving vision, but who also brings his own unique vision and sensibilities to help propel our aesthetic identity forward. Much respect to ya Luc!

I hired Mark as my photographer for my sister’s surprise birthday party, and I’m so glad that I did. Mark came a little earlier than expected that way he wasted no time preparing and setting up all his camera equipment. My pictures came out so crisp and stunning and due to Mark having any piece of equipment he’d need for my event. He was very polite to all of my party guests, and was really patient with everyone so he can take all of their pictures, even the ones that were a little more camera shy LOL! Throughout the night, he’d even show me the images taken so far and made sure that I liked them. That made me really pleased to know he wanted to make sure to get any kind of shot I wanted. My final pictures came out beautiful, looked SUPER professional, and sent to me by the next day! If you’re looking to hire a photographer for your event too, Mark is definitely the guy to impress you!

I hire videographers all the time via Thumbtack when I speak around the country. Out of all of the people that I've hired, Andrew has been the best that I've worked with. He took the time to understand my vision for my project. He arrived early and stayed a little later than our contracted time to help me get what I needed. He is quick to respond and is very talented. He exceeded my expectations and I will hire him for future events. If you are looking for an unbelievable videographer, look no further. Andrew is the person for you.

I'm not the one to get someone offline, this was my first especially for a major event. I was super nervous but Thomas reassured me he will do my video as and how I wanted. His previous work is definetely what helped gained confidence is what he does and is passionate for. My video came out beautiful and I couldnt have chose a better videographer. My decision was the best, and he met up to our standards. My husband and I both want to commend Thomas on his extra ordinary work. Thank you Thomas for the amazing video for our reception! The memory starts here with Vengo Films.

I hired Lemar for a surprise engagement at the Rockefeller centre in NYC. Lemar was so great. He made the occasion so easy and was amazing to work with. He had already scoped the area we were shooting in and had placing in mind for us to shoot after he event too. This gave me peace of mind on the day which was already very high pressured and important to be just right. He provided great high quality photos and video of the event. I am so happy with his work. I highly recommend this man. He is an artist and truly a nice guy too. Thanks Lemar!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a videographer and what do they do?

A videographer professionally films weddings and other events and edits the footage to create film keepsakes or marketing materials for their clients. Wedding videographers record all the key elements of your wedding day, ceremony and reception, and then edit the hours of film during post-production to make a wedding video, social media highlight reels, and any other film features you choose. Wedding videography captures, in live action, your vows, the cake-cutting, the first dance, reception toasts, the decor, the guests and all the details of your day. Many wedding videographers also interview guests (based on an interview list provided by the couple) and incorporate the recorded responses into the wedding video. Event videography typically costs less than wedding videography, as events are shorter with less detail. The national average cost for event videography is $500-$760, while the national average cost for wedding videography is $990-$1,260. A videographer usually does not need to be licensed, but it is important to confirm they have insurance and good standing in the business community, as well as good client reviews. A great majority of the work happens during post-production. The pros watch and blend together the hours of footage they took (sometimes from multiple cameras) to capture the story of your wedding day or event.

How do you choose a wedding videographer?

A wedding videographer will create a lifetime memory for you from edited video footage of your wedding day, ceremony and reception. Choosing a wedding videographer starts with looking online at portfolios of their past work. There’s no need to talk to anyone unless you love what you see. Next, make sure they have good reviews and past client experience; don’t be shy about asking for references if there aren’t any posted online. When you find someone who has a style you love, ask if they are available on your wedding day. If so, it’s time to talk pricing. Be clear about your maximum budget, and ask what kind of packages they offer. Pricing will depend on the number of crew needed for filming, the hours they are required to be onsite, post-production editing, and the length of the final product. Talk with several wedding videographers to get a feel for what prices are like in your region. Nationally, the average cost for wedding videography ranges between $990 and $1,260 per event. Once you agree on a product and have a plan, get everything in a written and signed contract. Clearly state the details of what is expected for your wedding day and from the final product. Be prepared to pay a deposit to reserve their services for the day, then pay the remainder upon receiving the video.

What should you ask your wedding videographer before hiring?

Finding the perfect wedding videographer doesn’t have to be stressful. Asking a few key questions upfront will help you find the right fit for your big day. Before talking with wedding videographers, research their work online. Look at their websites, business profiles and social media, and see what their finished wedding videos look like. If the style fits what you’re envisioning, it’s time to reach out. During initial contact, make sure you get along with the person. This is important since they’ll be interacting with you and your guests.

Your first question should be about their availability; there’s no point in going further if they’re booked on your wedding day. Ask to see references if they’re not readily available online. Next, it’s time to talk about money. Ask how they determine rates or what kind of packages they offer. When you settle on a rate and the services you want, make sure to have a written contract that outlines everything, including cost, length of time they film, what post-production will include, and when you can expect to receive the edited project.

When do you pay your wedding videographer and wedding photographer?

Most wedding videographers and photographers require a set deposit when you hire them. Wedding season is a busy time and a deposit secures that vendor’s services for your wedding date. It also protects the vendor if the couple changes their mind at the last minute, and they can’t find a new booking and lose work for the day. The deposit may be anywhere from 20 percent to  50 percent of the agreed-upon total price. Always get a written confirmation that your deposit has been received.

The remainder of the wedding videography and photography bill may be due in the week before to your wedding or on the day of the wedding. Other vendors may require a second payment immediately before the wedding and a third and final payment after the wedding video or photos are delivered. Each vendor has their own policies, so before hiring be sure to read, understand and agree to payment protocols. There is no requirement for tipping wedding videographers or photographers, but if you do want to tip them, the end of the reception is the appropriate time.

How much is videography for a wedding?

Wedding videography is one thing many couples regret not paying for. It may seem like just another expense during wedding planning, but it’s really special to have a moving memory of your big day. The national average cost for wedding videography is $990-$1,260. Pricing can vary depending on wedding length, special film features, the amount of editing required, and how many videographers are needed to cover the event. Many videographers offer packages that provide different levels of service. A very simple wedding documentary could be $600 or more, while a full-scale cinematic experience involving multiple videographers could be $2,500 or more. Here’s an example of average package pricing:

  • Package 1: $1,400
    • Footage during and after the ceremony, including highlights requested by the couple.
    • Two cameras with audio equipment.
    • DVD including a 3- or 4-minute edit to a song of the couple’s choice and a 45- to 50-minute raw edit covering the entire event.
    • Recordings of guests’ good wishes to the couple.
  • Package 2: $1,800
    • Includes everything from Package 1, plus an additional videographer (2 total) and aerial videography.
Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
