We hired A.D.A.D. Construction to paint the interior of our home - all rooms on the first and second floors and the outside front door and window trim. We live in North Wales, in a David Cutler home that is 21 years old and had not been painted. The crew of painters (2-4 on a given day) were punctual, polite, and responsive to any requests or questions we had. They cleaned up every day . The quality of the painting work is great. We are pleased with the results. Bill Dever, the supervisor we worked with, was terrific to work with. We would use them again.

I previously left a negative review by mistake. He quickly addressed my problem and was diligent to insure my door was fixed. I wish thumbtack would let me remove the negative review because he did a great job resolving the issue with my door to my apartment building.

Pete did electrical fixtures, plumbing, adjusted doors and locks and installed a new bathroom vanity. He also fixed roof seams on small roof. The work lasted 2 days. On time and a pleasure to have work in my home. I highly recommend. I'm going to use again in the very near future.

PROJECT: Remove and install an exterior door. Darin came to my home a few months ago to evaluate a project I listed on Thumbtack. He provided a quote in writing within hours of meeting us. He was one of a few contractors that presented a written contract that detailed the work he proposed. He arrived at each of our three meetings on time. He completed the job tasked efficiently and left the work space clean and clear. His work was excellent!!! My husband and I would hire HBR again...in a heartbeat!

Tom was very nice and fixed our bedroom door that my dog thought was a tasty treat. He did such a good job fixing it that the part of the door he worked on looks even better than the rest of the door. He is a very skilled carpenter and we would definitely hire him again for any other task.

Meeting Max the first time was great, he was professional and on time. Max is cool, calm and collected. He has a great spirit and knows what he's doing. I wanted a shoji sliding door installed and was very nervous and didn't know what to expect. Max and his work partner called to let me know they were a few blocks away on Marathon day no less. He came by re-measured and went to home depot to get wood, needless to say it was an adventure for him. He made it back and jumped right into drilling and cutting, the end result was amazing. I got just what I wanted, a zen, tranquil and perfect divier! A job well done. I have more work for Max now after seeing the magnificent work he has done with my dream double sliding shoji door kit from oriental furniture. Next projects....shelving, floating frames, file cabinet assembly, who knows whats next. Will ask him to post picture of completed work.

I am a very picky person and i was undecided on a few things but Rory was so patient with me and he offered great insights to get me on the right track. I hired him to hang doors and tile my bathroom floor and shower. I ended up hiring him to paint our home as well. He is a very hard worker and the work he does is remarkable.

I take cre of veterans in my home.. wheelhouse converted a screen portch into a large bedroom and full luxury bathroom. We are extremely pleased with the result.. I constantly get compliments on the quality of the workmanship. They took 100+ year old house and made the addition look like it has always been there.. they even matched the siding that I had installed six years ago.. they framed, installed windows and doors interior and exterior french doors. As well as a full custom shower vanity and high velocity fush toilet.. in addition they built 2 custom decks with stairs and railings.. the lightning they installed looks so up to date that I am going to have them install it in other rooms in my house.. They are also going to remodel another half bath and convert my kitchen/dining room to an open concept look.. if you get a chance you should really us these guys. They are small but good and affordable... Wheelhouse rocks!!!

John was really great at communicating back and forth with me through thumbtack and I felt assured that I had picked the right professional. He arrived right on time at the time we arranged, maybe even a little earlier. He was very patient with us as the shed wasn’t exactly paint ready and he went above and beyond to bring our shed back to life by replacing a few rotted boards and even rebuilding both entire doors. His painting was very neat and we are very happy with the outcome. We are saving Johns number for future projects! Definitely choose him for your carpentry and paint jobs. A+++

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How does a locksmith open a locked door?

Locksmiths use specialized tools and techniques to open your door in the case of lockouts or lost keys. Trained locksmiths can pick your door lock with lock-picking tools such as a rake, a tension wrench, a half diamond or a hook. They may use a technique called bumping, which will work on pin tumbler locks, or as a last resort they may use a drill to remove your existing lock. The national average locksmith price ranges between $70 and $100. A locksmith can also replace your current lock system, re-key your locks if you have lost your keys, repair a broken lock, install a deadlock and more. Locksmiths not only help with front doors, they can help if you are locked out of your car, locked out of your mailbox, locked out of your shed … you name it. There may be an additional charge for emergency after-hours locksmith services. Check out our tips for smart hiring on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost for a car locksmith?

There are several reasons you may need a car locksmith. You may be locked out of your car (either with the keys inside or with no keys at all), you may have lost your car keys and need a new key, or you may want to make a duplicate car key. The national average locksmith price ranges from $70 to $100. Getting locked out of your car can be scary and overwhelming — especially if it’s cold and dark out. Fortunately, professional locksmiths provide round-the-clock assistance to help people in these circumstances.

Car lockouts are one of the main reasons people need a locksmith. Your locksmith’s price can depend on the type of car you have, the time of day (or night) it is, and where you are located. Locksmith pricing may be based on a flat rate, or pricing may be quoted to you after the locksmith determines the circumstances. For example, a flat rate for a car lockout could be $65 for standard vehicles. That price could be higher for after-hours or long-distance service, or service during extreme weather. If you have entirely lost your car keys, a locksmith can make you a new car key, but first they must verify that you are the owner of the car. Locksmiths can even program new car key fobs for you — often at a lower price than a dealership.

How much does it cost to make a new key for a car?

Locksmiths’ prices for making new car keys can vary depending on the make of your car as well as the time of day and location. The national average locksmith price ranges from $70 to $100, but duplicating a key may cost as little as $30, while extraction a key stuck in the ignition, cutting a new key and programming the fob can cost much more.

You might need a new car key if you have lost your key, the key broke in the ignition, the key is bent or damaged, or you just want a duplicate in case of emergency. You can request a duplicate of a key you have on hand, or you can have a new key made or cut if you have lost your original car keys. If you need to replace lost keys, you’ll need to first provide proof that you are the owner of the car along with the vehicle identification number (VIN). If you’re just locked out of your car but don’t need a key made, a locksmith may charge $65 to get you back in. Locksmith car key services are often far more affordable than dealership prices for new keys.

How much does it cost to have a deadbolt lock installed?

Installing a new deadbolt lock can improve your home security, especially if you think your current lock system has been compromised or there are unaccounted-for copies of your house keys in circulation. A professional locksmith can install a new deadbolt for you in a matter of hours. The national average locksmith price ranges from $70 to $100. Locksmith prices for installing deadbolts may be higher based on whether the professional provides the lock or you have it on hand, how many components the locking system includes, and how long the installation takes. The cost to purchase a lock yourself from a big-box store can range from approximately $70 to $225 or more, depending on quality and materials. Higher-security locks often take longer and therefore cost more to install.
