Introduction: As a teacher:
not many teach real flamenco in Austin, or in any part of Texas. I would like to add that my work as a teacher is extremely important to me, a been teaching for about 10 years now and I don't stop reteaching myself a better ways to teach each individual this art form. I had in 5 years about 15 students, which almost all of them keep on coming, some on and off for personal issues, but they keep on thinking that I give results, even those who are not necessarily trying to pursue flamenco guitar as a profession or their ultimate gender of music they would like to play. I also have been teaching for the pass 2 years through Skype, and I have also find it effective for my students that are far away.
I also find that my students feel that it's a very important plus that I am and active performer. I am able to share the emotional aspects to the process of learning and the path through a pretty hard and unique musical career.
As a performer:
I currently work with different national flamenco companies. Also, in my own project (La Juerga flamenco ensemble) I am fortunate to count with the very best level of artist that the US has today. Also, I have work and share many wonderful moments with internationally renown artist from Spain.
As a teacher:
I learn almost as much as the students. It makes me a better guitarist everyday. I love that my students feel accomplish with what they learn.
As a performer:
I am madly in love with the art form, and there is a moment that you get to a level where practicing, jamming or teaching will not give you any more space to learn and master the art form. This is when if you want to keep on learning, you have to enter the performing arena. To me, getting paid is just a necessity that I have to have in order to devote my time to learn the art form. It doesn't matter how hard life or the career gets, it never quite feels to me that I am working. I love it!
