FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
Since I am an RD and a strength coach, services do vary. Most clients want and need a training program and a nutrition program. I do prefer a monthly system, because a one time meeting doesn't have a lasting effect. For nutrition, I like to tweak things as we go and use the minimal effective dose philosophy. Basically, what do we need to change ASAP that will get you closer to your goals. If you play all your cards at once, there will be no room in the future to get the most out of each change. For example, a client kept a food journal for 6 months, and lost over 50lbs, got off all medications, and felt great. After that, she had a plateau. We introduced a few short cardiovascular workouts, and results kept coming. If we did all of that at once, getting through the plateau would have been more difficult. Plus, why do more if you got what you wanted? That is just an example, and everyone has different needs at different times. One of the problems with personal training is cost. Some people can afford it long term, and that's great. Most of us cannot. While I love personal training and will always provide it, it doesn't change the world. Having a coach that you can meetup with occasionally, provide a reasonable training program, and have constant contact with to "stay in the game" is important. Small group training is another option I provide, where you can still get great training, a group to do it with (which is a HUGE plus), and split the cost. What do you need to succeed? That is the most important question I ask potential clients. I can talk all day about what I offer, but it really comes down to what you need, and once we know that answer we can decide if it is a good fit.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I really don't like to talk about certifications, but I paid lots of time and money for them,so I get to list them! Strongfirst Kettlebell instructor (SFG) Functional Movement Screen (FMS) Precision Nutrition (PN1) In addition, I also attend Perform Better every year, a gathering of the best coaches in the country. I subscribe to several research reviews, and have networking groups who bring all the "new" stuff to the discussion table.
- How did you get started doing this type of work?
I lost 75lbs in High School, and it changed my life. I had superficial goals in the beginning, but it led me on a path much deeper than that. My personality changed (or maybe just came out) and gave me self confidence.
