Sergio provides tutoring service for both my sons. One is in college and the other is in 8th grade. Math is a struggle for both my boys, but with Sergie's help, they are much more confident. Sergio is patient, and provides excellent explanation of the math concepts in a way they understand. We really appreciate Sergio and all his help! I highly recommend him for your math tutoring needs.

My daughter always seemed to have panic attacks leading up to tests. I was desperate to find a way for her to be comfortable especially as SATs were coming up. All I can say is after a few weeks with the tutors and life coaches at Chelsea International Education, my daughter’s confidence level went up a lot. She was not only prepared to take her SATs but her core academic skills have improved tremendously, which has helped her with her AP exams. The fact that all of the Chelsea tutors are fully qualified teachers, I think makes a major difference and really sets them apart. It really is a quality service and I am very happy to recommend them to anyone.

If you are shopping around, just stop and call these guys right now. I've been very bad at math my entire life. I flunked algebra three times before I called Arbor Tutors. The tutor was very understanding and nonjudgmental. I can highly recommend Arbor Tutors

I picked Darren out of the math tutors that responded on thumbtack because I was impressed with his email. In the 4weeks he has tutored my son he has indeed put his money where his mouth is. My son went from 2F's, D to all A's and B's. He is an excellent educator and would recomend him to anyone who wants to really learn.

Sebern was beyond an outstanding tutor, he was phenomenal. I know without his help I would not have passed the Praxis Math core exam. He was very understanding of my learning disabilities and very patient with all the questions that I asked him. He is a fantastic tutor.

Jean is an excellent Math tutor! So far we've only had 2 tutoring sessions. The first session was online and the second session we met in person at the library. She is very patient, understanding, and professional. But what is most imperative is that she actually wants the individual like myself, to understand the concept of the material. In other words, really start to understand the basics of each problem and then build upon that. I know seeing great results in a student's math skills also really means a lot to Jean as well. It feels good knowing that I have a Math tutor that cares about me as an individual and wants me to succeed I'm very grateful! And I look forward to continuing working with her.

    About

My name is Shawn, and I have been a tutor for 3 years now. I have a 4.0 GPA in college, and I am working towards a degree in nursing with the eventual goal of becoming a nurse practitioner. I also have a goal of becoming a teacher in a professorial role in the sciences. I tutored for Golden West College in California last semester for anatomy, physiology, chemistry, and biology. I have tutored privately for these as well. I have taken two tutor mastering courses at Golden West, and I absolutely feel I have a knack for it. I also have taught in other capacities previously to tutoring. I have been a teaching assistant for microbiology, anatomy, Russian sports massage, and professional development. I am currently an instructor for my men's organization at church as well as a cub scout den leader. This is my dead semester so I will be much more available. This semester/year, I will be also tutoring for human physiology, paper writing, and basic math.

    About

As an experienced math teacher, technology coach, and piano teacher with a master's in math education from Columbia University Teachers College, I tutor math students, ranging from first grade to calculus and physics. I specialize in middle school mathematics. I have worked in both public and private schools and am currently self-employed as a tutor. I am also present at a variety of conferences on technology use in the classroom.

    About

I tutor students at all levels in the correct format of Spanish, for reading, writing and speaking. I am very patient and flexible with lesson times and days.

    About

I approach tutoring as I plan to approach teaching when I get my degree. I like to pin point the students learning style and go from there. I strongly believe all students learn differently and not everyone can understand a simple way of learning one subject. Then after we come to the end of the subject matter we are going over, I make sure they understand what they did, and proceed with ways they can adjust their study habits to coincide with their learning styles.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How do you find a good math tutor?

Math home tutors are available for any age student, from elementary school to postgraduate studies. Rates will vary based on the tutor’s background, education and experience. To find a good math tutor, first determine your learning goals. Do you need help understanding and completing homework assignments? Are you preparing for the math portion of a standardized test? Next, read reviews from current and former students. Find someone with proven success helping students achieve their goals. If you want help on an ongoing basis, decide what your budget is and identify the tutors who fall within your range. Ask if there are additional fees for travel, as some home math tutors include travel costs in their rates and others charge extra. Ask about session length and the tutor’s teaching style, and whether they also offer online sessions or group sessions. Finally, schedule a single session with each of the math tutors you think are best to see who is the best fit.

How much do math tutors cost?

Math is a subject that’s challenging for many students. Fortunately, home math tutors can help students excel in math by working with them in focused one-on-one tutoring sessions. The cost for math tutors varies based on the type of math, the expertise and experience of the tutor, and geographic location. Pricing may range between $40 and $100 per hour, depending on the math subject. As a rule, the more complex the subject matter, the more the math tutor will charge for the lessons. The cost reflects the math tutor’s advanced studies and the work required for them to be able to teach on the subject. Frequency can also affect costs. Students can buy packages of lessons for a lower cost per session than buying individually. Nationally, the average hourly rate for a geometry home tutor is $50-$60. The national average rate for an algebra home tutor is $40-$50 per hour. For generalized math tutors, the national average ranges between $40 and $50 per hour. More intensive standardized test prep studies and math tutoring average $70-$100 per hour.

How much does home tutoring cost?

Investing in home tutoring is an investment in your child’s future. Home tutors work one on one with your child to address their challenge areas and provide room for intellectual growth that may not happen in a busy classroom. The cost of home tutors depends on multiple factors including where you live, the tutor’s background and education, the subject matter, and how often the tutor comes. Test prep home tutoring is typically more expensive than single-subject tutoring. Here are some examples of average tutoring costs:

    • National average cost for an algebra home tutor: $40-$50 per hour.
    • National average cost for a French home tutor: $30-$50 per hour.
    • National average cost for a geometry home tutor: $50-$60 per hour.
    • National average cost for a math home tutor: $40-$50 per hour.
    • National average cost for reading and writing home tutor: $40-$60 per hour.
    • National average cost for an SAT home tutor: $70 per hour.
    • National average cost for an ACT home tutor: $70-$100 per hour.
