I had a problem with my sliding patio door sticking. My son found Jose on Thumbtack and made the contact for me. What a find !!! He quoted me price online, but explained that was worst case scenario. After examining the door, he called the company which made and installed it 15 years ago. He thought it might be under warranty. He spent a lot of time with them on the phone and confirmed the warranty. As a result the company is coming to service the door with new rollers free of charge. Jose adjusted the door the best that he could without taking it off. He said that he did not want me to pay unnecessarily. He would not even let me pay him for the adjustment. I have never had such a great experience with a service person. I definitely will be hiring him again. There is always something that needs to be done S.N.

I was so thrilled to find SCA via Thumback. I had ordered a completely new set of furniture for my home office from Amazon. I had checked the "include assembly" option for approximately $200, but after their provider said it would be more I decided to give Thumbtack a try and I'm so glad I did. Within minutes I heard from Amanda who quoted me a very reasonable rate/estimate of time. Vincent called exactly half an hour before his planned arrival as promised and was very pleasant and personable from the second I opened my front door. Not only was he a pleasure to work with, but he did the entire job (four pieces of office furniture and the chair my cat took over immediately as shown in the picture) in half the time quoted. I'm so happy with the service received that I will be calling them back as soon as the bookcase/hutch/guest chair I ordered arrived.

I needed to replace a few GFI in my home, however I didn't have the replacements ready for him to install when he arrived. Dan was nice enough to go to the home improvement store and purchased them for me since I was home bound. I also needed to replace a screen on the patio door. He graciously did that at a very reasonable price since it was an impromptu project. Definitely recommend Dan and will call upon him for future home repairs.

We hired Chana to repair a home that had been extensively damaged by tenants and make it ready to put on the market to sell. The list of items they repaired is extensive - holes in the drywall (one so large it went all the way thru the wall of the house), holes in the stucco, replaced blinds, replaced ceiling fans, replaced toilets, replaced bathroom lights and towel racks, refinished tubs and sinks, cleaned windows, cleaned an existing ceiling fan, installed a new microwave, removed destroyed carpet and replaced with new, deep, deep cleaning doesn't even begin to describe the dirt they had to clean in the entire 1800 sq ft house, priming and painting entire house, repair and repaint garage door and front door, paint the stucco that was repaired, repairing and replacing doors, locks, door frames, hauling off trash and personal items the tenant had left behind, cleaning garage walls and floor and repainting, pressure washing driveway, and I'm sure at least 20 other items I can't recall. The dirt and destruction in this home were beyond anything I have ever encountered. Chana and her crew tackled the project like true professionals. The attention to detail in every room was something I never expected. We live in a different state and I was very apprehensive about not seeing what was going on in the house. I quickly discovered there was no need to worry. Chana was in contact with me everyday-multiple times a day if she felt it was necessary. She coordinated purchases and deliveries with me by phone-I never had to leave the state. When Chana was finished with the house it looked like it did when it was purchased 8 years ago. Impressed, appreciative, grateful, thankful-these are words I would use to explain my experience with Renew All Construction but they don't even start to convey how happy I am with the work that was done. The house went under contract in 2 days-unfortunately financing for the buyer was a problem so its back on the market. Our realtor mentioned a couple of items he thought we should address and Chana will be fixing them this week. I could not be more impressed.

randy was very knowledgeable, a completed the work in a timely manner. He fixed a number of things wrong with the house, to include but not limited to the garage door, installing a new. bedroom door, installing a new faucet, fixing holes in the wall, and the countertop. The only thing I would say that could have been better is, bringing all the materials that you need to complete the job instead of charging 30% mark up to go get the materials, but I was given the option to go get the materials and save money by doing so. Some people may not have the time to go do this. All in all i would use The hired man again in the future for any of my general contracting needs.

I hired Ronnie to change out a doorknob in my house. Ronnie was extremely helpful - he went way out of his way to find an appropriate knob because I didn't have time to do so. He showed up on time, provided great options for my home, and was efficient with my time. Ronnie does excellent work and is a great value. I will definitely hire Ronnie for all my locksmith needs.

Hired Mike and his crew to patch the wall where I had a dog door installed. It involved framing out the the hole, putting up new drywall inside and matching the texture, and new stucco outside matching the texture and existing paint. Mike came out to quote the job and was clear with his price and expected time to completion. I expressed my need to get the job done faster and he rose to the occasion, getting it done a day earlier than promised. He showed up on time with a competent and friendly crew. They worked quickly and worked well and cleaned up their mess when they were done. The guys were obviously skilled in their respective crafts (a stucco guy, a drywall guy, and Mike as the painter). Would definitely recommend Mike and his guys. They weren't the cheapest bid I received, but they were pro and got it done right.

We requested help with rekeying out dead bolt lock and the service was beyond exceptional. The price remained the same and he not only fixed the lock, but replaced it, fixed another, provided keys and fixed a sliding door without increasing the price. I can't say enough good things about Bill Manolidis.

I downloaded Thumbtack so I could find a locksmith and handyman to fix the things in my new house that were falling apart. Most important being my front door. The old owners were nice enough to give us a new door, but the lock and frame are trash. He quoted me, and he was so pleasant, i hired him. Once I mentioned that I live in a not-so-great neighborhood and didn't feel safe, he was here in 30 minutes. And he was done in just about 35 minutes. Professional. Courteous and genuine. I want to hire him for everything in the house.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to have a deadbolt lock installed?

Installing a new deadbolt lock can improve your home security, especially if you think your current lock system has been compromised or there are unaccounted-for copies of your house keys in circulation. A professional locksmith can install a new deadbolt for you in a matter of hours. The national average locksmith price ranges from $70 to $100. Locksmith prices for installing deadbolts may be higher based on whether the professional provides the lock or you have it on hand, how many components the locking system includes, and how long the installation takes. The cost to purchase a lock yourself from a big-box store can range from approximately $70 to $225 or more, depending on quality and materials. Higher-security locks often take longer and therefore cost more to install.

How does a locksmith open a locked door?

Locksmiths use specialized tools and techniques to open your door in the case of lockouts or lost keys. Trained locksmiths can pick your door lock with lock-picking tools such as a rake, a tension wrench, a half diamond or a hook. They may use a technique called bumping, which will work on pin tumbler locks, or as a last resort they may use a drill to remove your existing lock. The national average locksmith price ranges between $70 and $100. A locksmith can also replace your current lock system, re-key your locks if you have lost your keys, repair a broken lock, install a deadlock and more. Locksmiths not only help with front doors, they can help if you are locked out of your car, locked out of your mailbox, locked out of your shed … you name it. There may be an additional charge for emergency after-hours locksmith services. Check out our tips for smart hiring on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to make a new key for a car?

Locksmiths’ prices for making new car keys can vary depending on the make of your car as well as the time of day and location. The national average locksmith price ranges from $70 to $100, but duplicating a key may cost as little as $30, while extraction a key stuck in the ignition, cutting a new key and programming the fob can cost much more.

You might need a new car key if you have lost your key, the key broke in the ignition, the key is bent or damaged, or you just want a duplicate in case of emergency. You can request a duplicate of a key you have on hand, or you can have a new key made or cut if you have lost your original car keys. If you need to replace lost keys, you’ll need to first provide proof that you are the owner of the car along with the vehicle identification number (VIN). If you’re just locked out of your car but don’t need a key made, a locksmith may charge $65 to get you back in. Locksmith car key services are often far more affordable than dealership prices for new keys.

How much does it cost for a car locksmith?

There are several reasons you may need a car locksmith. You may be locked out of your car (either with the keys inside or with no keys at all), you may have lost your car keys and need a new key, or you may want to make a duplicate car key. The national average locksmith price ranges from $70 to $100. Getting locked out of your car can be scary and overwhelming — especially if it’s cold and dark out. Fortunately, professional locksmiths provide round-the-clock assistance to help people in these circumstances.

Car lockouts are one of the main reasons people need a locksmith. Your locksmith’s price can depend on the type of car you have, the time of day (or night) it is, and where you are located. Locksmith pricing may be based on a flat rate, or pricing may be quoted to you after the locksmith determines the circumstances. For example, a flat rate for a car lockout could be $65 for standard vehicles. That price could be higher for after-hours or long-distance service, or service during extreme weather. If you have entirely lost your car keys, a locksmith can make you a new car key, but first they must verify that you are the owner of the car. Locksmiths can even program new car key fobs for you — often at a lower price than a dealership.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
