We needed someone to bring this 10 year old palo verde tree down in height... it was way too tall and hung over the fence into the neighbor's yard. It needed to be shortened, thinned and shaped. Our current landscaping company used to be able to trim/thin it to our satisfaction but the tree has gotten so tall that they are unable to do much anymore. So I did an internet search for experienced tree trimmers and discovered Thumbtack as a resource. The first contractor I called out said the tree could not be trimmed/topped, that it would most likely die, so we should remove it and plant a new tree. I was so unhappy with that proposal that I decided to get a second opinion. Limb It Less had also responded to my Thumbtack request, so I reached out to them. The same day we connected on Thumbtack Brandon came out to take a look and provided a quote for the job. With confidence he told us he could bring the tree height down 6-8 feet and thin it out. That same day we received his official proposal for the job via Thumbtack, which we accepted online. An appointment was set, his team showed up the next week as scheduled and they did a fantastic job. The upper level of the tree was cut and shaped by an experienced tree climber who used proper rigging to complete the job in a safe manner. All the limbs, debris, etc were put into their grinding machine and hauled away. Overall we were very happy with their work and will use them in the future to keep this lovely tree under control.

Fantastic. George arrived early and did wonderful work. He removed debris and leaves from both yards, trimmed all of the bushes/trees and pruned/trimmed back our ivy. He also mowed the grass. He did all of this for a very reasonable price. We will absolutely use him again! Highly recommended!

Tim did a truly professional job. I had a broken water main leading from the street into my home due to tree roots. Tim gave me an estimate, set a time to due the job, showed up when he said he would and completed it in a matter of hours. He called me out to see the repairs he made before filling in the hole that he had to dig to get to the main water pipe. He used Quality Materials and then packed sand around the new pipe removing large rocks and debris from the area to prevent future damage. Oh, I forgot to mention that the location of the break in the water main was under the sidewalk leading from the shut off into my home. Great work, fantastic estimate, and as I mentioned before a "Truly Professional job." I highly recommend him for your project.

ProGreenLand and Mr. Saul have cared for our lawn, trees and shrubs for over 6 years. We live overseas - our Vegas home was vacant at times and is now rented, so we have not been present to monitor Mr. Saul and his teams. And, we NEVER had to monitor him. Mr. Saul and his staff are responsible, skilled, foresighted and reasonably priced. The teams see what actions need to be taken and they execute. Mr. Saul's ideas and suggestions are always for the best of the lawn. We highly recommend ProGreenLand and Mr. Saul.

We chose Sunscape because they listened to what we wanted. I gave them an idea and they made it come alive. We had an overhaul done on the backyard with new design, curbing, rocks, trees , lighting & synthetic grass. The workers were very professional and hard working. The end result was amazing. We spend so much time outside now and the kids & dogs love it. Only company I will ever use!

Trees of Tommorrow responded quickly on Thumbtack and we exchanged a couple of messages about the project. After giving Patty my cell number she called and they came over the same day for an estimate. Then they did the work just 2 days later on a Saturday. Trimmed about 10 large super tall oleanders and about 12 palm trees 30 ft tall. Work was done very quickly. The palm trees especially look beautiful - as good or better than the large tree company I used to use who charged a lot more. They are friendly, professional, fair and they clean up well after the job. Will definitely use them again.

The company was very thorough and honest. Gave me great advice on taking care of trees in the future. He could have made more money by trimming one of my trees that I had questions about, but was honest and told me to wait until next year on it. They cleaned up and hauled everything away and were very careful of my plants and flowers while trimming the trees.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to trim a tree?

The national price range for tree trimming is $270-$450. Tree trimming is often done by a professional arborist who is trained to safely trim and prune trees for both the health of the tree and the safety of the residents and their property. Trying to do your own tree trimming is not advisable unless you have the proper know-how. Tree trimming companies may charge an hourly rate for their services. The hourly rate may be higher or lower for different trees to reflect the relative safety measures, skill, equipment or people power needed to handle the job. For this reason, most tree services provide free estimates.

One example of an hourly rate for professional tree trimming services is $150 per hour. Costs may be under $100 or could be higher than $300 per hour, depending on variables such as proximity to buildings, health of the tree, height and diameter of the tree, and type of tree trimming desired. Geography and regional cost of living and regional costs to do business will also play a role in your tree removal costs.

How much does it cost to remove a tree stump?

Once you have a tree cut down, you’ll probably want to remove the tree stump as well. You may want the stump removed for aesthetics, the tree stump could be diseased, you might want to prevent regrowth, or you may find the roots are causing problems and need to be removed. Tree removal costs don’t always include the cost to grind out or dig out a tree stump after the tree has been felled and the trunk removed. The national average cost for stump removal ranges from $150 to $200. There are two main methods for dealing with tree stumps. In grinding, pros use a chipping machine to grind away the above-level tree stump until it sits just below the soil surface. Tree stump removal entails lifting the entire root ball of a tree out of the soil. Removing the stump will leave a hole in the ground and also take more time, labor and money than stump grinding. Here are some examples of average tree stump removal costs:

  • Stump grinding: $2-$4 per inch.
  • Tree stump removal: average of $60-$350.

The final price will depend on the stump’s size, condition, location and condition of the soil around it.

How much does it cost to remove a fallen tree?

If you need to have a tree cut down, have you planned what will happen next? Arborists often charge an additional fee to quarter and remove the fallen tree from your property, so anticipate this as part of your tree removal costs. You can elect to have the wood cut for use in your fireplace, or you may prefer to have it hauled away completely.

Tree removal costs may vary based on the height and the width of the felled tree. Size affects the labor required for removal, which will be reflected in the cost. For example, a tree service company may charge an additional $100-$120 to haul away the pieces of a felled tree. The service may cost as little as $75 in some regions and more than $150 in others. Regional labor rates, the cost of living and the cost to do business in your area will be reflected in your tree removal cost.

How much does it cost to cut a tree down?

When you’re ready to have a tree on your property come down, it’s time to call an arborist. The national average price range for tree-trimming costs is $270-$450. Tree removal costs can vary based on the height, diameter, location and health of the tree, and on whether you want to remove the stump. Height plays a major role in tree removal costs. Small trees, no more than 30 feet tall, are usually thinner in diameter and easier and safer for an arborist to manage. Removal of a small tree can cost anywhere from under $150 to over $450. Removal of medium-height trees, from 30 feet to 60 feet tall, could cost anywhere between $150 and $850 or more. Tall trees, typically 60 feet to 80 feet tall, may start at $500 or cost more than $1,000 to cut down. As the height and diameter increase, so does the cost.

Location is critical, too. Removing a tree in an open space is quicker and presents fewer obstacles than removing a tree that is growing flush to your house. Arborists can assess your tree and provide you with quotes based on the variables involved. For example, removing a medium-size hackberry tree that was growing too close to a home — the roots were damaging the home’s foundation — cost $1,500. This price included rope-down, house protection, tree quartering and stacking, and stump removal.

How much does it cost to cut down a massive tree?

If you have to remove a big, beautiful tree from your property, you’ll definitely need an arborist. Cutting down a massive tree without the proper tools or training can lead to major property damage or injury. A huge tree may need to be removed if it is diseased or dying and poses a safety risk, has suffered a blow from a storm and isn’t safe, or is growing into your home, your home’s foundation, your septic system, or your power lines. Removal costs for such large trees will depend on the tree’s height, diameter, and relative safety and accessibility, as well as whether you also need the felled tree and stump removed. The bare minimum for removal of a tree over 75 or 80 feet would be $1,000. This may not include tree quartering and removal or stump grinding. Stump grinding ranges on average from $2 to $4 per inch of the stump’s diameter. There is no set price as each situation is unique, so it’s always best to have an arborist give you a quote and detail exactly which services are included in the price.
