I am a composer / performer / teaching artist with over 30 years experience. I work as an actor and musician and educator. I have composed over a dozen produced musicals, operas and chamber works. I teach in public schools, mentoring students of all ages to create their own music theater works. I teach beginner and intermediate piano as well as music composition privately.
The beginner piano lesson plan I use includes a traditional classical approach, employing the most effective beginner piano program I have encountered. It is a step by step approach that develops finger coordination and musical literacy in a smart, logical fashion that works very well for children and adult beginners alike.
For intermediate players we will assess at which level the student is playing, what music most interests the student, and what music will be most effective in addressing the student's current needs for improvement.
I also design lessons / teach music responding to students' tastes and individual goals. This can include any musical style or piece the student wishes to learn, encompassing techniques from classical to pop to jazz to modern to improvisation.
Music composition lessons focus specifically on the student's interests and goals, and can be a component of a regular piano lesson too.
Ultimately every student follows a lesson plan specifically designed for their needs and interests.
The base prices for 30/45/60 minute sessions are for lessons at my Park Slope location (near the Union Street / Grand Army Plaza / 7th Avenue / Barclay Center subway stations). For home visits a travel surcharge between $5-$10 may be applied.
I enjoy the one on one interaction with the student, tracking measurable improvement and success and mentoring students to develop their own voice as music artists.
I enjoy helping the student discover their individual musical interests and helping them meet and excel their musical goals.
