For removal of bed bugs from my home, I chose exterminators of Odin Pest on suggestion of my Dad. Experts knocked our door on morning on time and served excellent freezing treatment. We asked about various treatments and they recommended Heat solution. Their operation was quick and very effective.

Richard arrived exactly at the time arranged. He was a great guy and put my mind at ease immediately. He inspected and sprayed every inch of my apartment and told me what to expect and assured me that this problem will be over very soon. I can't wait for the follow visit cause it was like having a friend or relative come and visit. I would recommend everyone to use this company even if you don't have a bed bug problem like I did because they can keep all pest control issues in check before they become a problem.

Shirley was AMAZING with getting back to me quickly and scheduling an appointment the next day to help us with our bed bug problem. Having bed bugs really freaked me out and I had so many questions. Shirley spent almost a whole hour listening to me and educating me on everything I needed to know from A to Z. After speaking with her I was able to sleep a little better at night. I really look forward to meeting with our terminator tomorrow and finally getting rid of these disgusting creatures! They are very caring and just from one phone call I was amazed.

I had a bed bug extermination in November 2015 and I have been bed bug free since the treatment. J was friendly and fast yet thorough and efficient and treated all of my furniture- just in case. My only suggestion is to have the treatment done in the morning so the space can air out for a couple of hours (I have asthma and bad allergies). Great great service!

Mike was recommended to me by Daniel at All American Pest Control who came to bat proof my house. I was told I would need another company to provide the guano clean up and treatment of the bat bugs (which was the original reason for the bat removal). The day of my bat exclusion service, Mike called me to schedule an appointment. I could tell from our phone call he was very knowledgeable and I was put at ease right away. He was also able to schedule our appointment at my convenience since I work in a school and timing would be difficult. Mike came to my house and did a thorough inspection. He then explained the clean up and treatment process. He was extremely patient with all my questions and took me thorough and took me through each step. I felt I was in very good hands. Mike was very professional and offers a warranty with his work. I would absolutely use him and again and recommend Pest by MD to others!

Pros in Control worked very well with me when I had a very bad case of bed bugs in my home. Their prices were great, and they cleaned my house from the little bugs completely. Very nice guys. They came quick, confirmed it was bed bugs and sprayed accordingly. They were here less than an hour. We haven't had any problems since. They also come back after 2 weeks and spray again just to be safe. What lead me to go with them is the 90 day warranty, just in case...

I needed to deal with an infestation if bed bugs. Michael was very good at explaining what needed to be done. On both days of treatment, he was early, efficient and always explained what he was doing. As I had the second treatment only yesterday, it is too early to tell if I wi need more. However, I already can see and feel a vast difference.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What do pest control companies do?

Pest control companies handle all aspects of bug, rodent and animal extermination or removal. Pest control professionals visit your home or office to identify the type of pest that is troubling you and offer various treatment plans — complete with clearly outlined costs. Once you and the pest control company have a signed agreement, the pro will begin treatment. Pest treatment can range from the use of spray pesticides and gel bait to live and/or kill traps. There are a wide range of types of pesticides, many of them nontoxic for humans and other small animals. This means you may be able to have your home treated for pests without harming nearby wildlife or your dog and cat. The pest control pro will carry out the treatment plan and, depending on the service agreement, provide follow-up such as emptying traps, inspecting access points, or reapplying pesticide spray if the pests return. Costs will vary based on the type of pest you are having removed and the extent of the infestation. The average national pest control price range is $80-$130. From a minor bedbug event to an entire home termite infestation, pest control companies have got you covered.

How do you get bed bugs and how do you get rid of them?

The increase in bed bug infestations in the U.S. is a result of increased travel, lack of knowledge about preventing infestations, increased resistance of bed bugs to pesticides, and ineffective pest control practices, explains the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). It’s easy to mistake bed bugs for carpet beetles or similar-looking bugs, so infestations are often not noticed when they first occur. Prevention tips include keeping areas free of clutter, regularly washing sheets and mattress covers in hot water (and don’t forget to wash the laundry bag, too), and vacuuming regularly and safely disposing of the sealed vacuum bag. Not everyone has reactions to bed bug bites, which also may be mistaken for the bites of other pests such as mosquitoes, so timely bed bug extermination depends on identification of bed bug activity. If you notice physical signs of an infestation, contact a bed bug extermination professional as soon as possible to learn about chemical and non-chemical (such as heat) treatment options. An integrated pest management plan may incorporate one or more methods.

How much does it cost to remove a mouse?

If you have a mouse in your house you’re probably quickly researching pest control costs. Mice, although tiny, can transmit diseases and also get into your food and leave unsanitary droppings around your home. If you have seen one mouse in your house, it’s likely that more have taken up residence in your crawl space, attic or basement. The national average pest control cost is $150-$200. Costs can vary depending on whether you need to get rid of a population of living mice or just dispose of a dead mouse (or full traps), how extensive the mouse population is, and where you live in the country. Here are some examples of average pest control cost for removing a mouse:

  • $150 for initial trap setup and inspection (and sealing of entry holes).
    • $50 for rodent removal service calls and emptying of traps. This visit can also include identifying and sealing entry points that were not sealed on the first visit.
  • Rodent extermination: $110-$350, depending on how heavy the rodent population is, whether the mouse infestation poses health risks, how many entrances exist and how many rodent bait stations are needed.

How much does it cost to kill bed bugs?

The cost of bed bug extermination depends primarily on how widespread the pest infestation is and how many rooms need to be treated. Other factors that can affect bed bug extermination costs are the amount of clutter in the location, additional furniture that needs to be treated, and construction of the home. Pest management professionals often have rates for room treatments, which can vary based on these factors. As an example, a pest management company treating a 10-by-15-foot room with light infestation might charge clients about $250, while the same size room with a heavy infestation and large amounts of clutter might cost the clients $300-$400. Clutter and heavier bed bug populations mean more product and longer labor time for the workers. Rates will vary from company to company, and from region to region, but the national average bed bug extermination cost is $320-$400. Bed bug heat treatments are an alternative way to exterminate these pests. Heat treatments are typically charged per square foot and tend to cost more than chemical or non-chemical spray solutions. Although effective, they are not usually recommended for occupied spaces, as the extreme temperatures can damage televisions, window dressings and other home furnishings.

How much does it cost to treat a house for termites?

Termites are not only creepy-crawly, they can literally eat your house out from underneath you. Termites feed on damp and dry wood and can chomp through your house at an alarming rate. The national average pest control cost for termite extermination is $240-$400. Treatment costs can be higher for an extensive infestation. Here are some examples of average pest control costs for termites:

  • Liquid treatment of subterranean termites: $3-$4 per linear foot.
    • For $75 per year, a company may offer a maintenance plan that provides inspection of the property and renewal of the warranty.
  • Liquid treatment of subterranean termites: approximately $400 for a 2,000-square-foot home at $3-$5 per linear foot.
    • The price is higher for additional work such as foaming and drilling inside of concrete slabs.
  • Fumigation treatment of drywood termites: $1,200-$1,500 for a 30,000- to 35,000-cubic-foot home
    • Fumigation is measured in cubic feet because it fills the airspace of the home and infiltrates the wood that the termites may be colonizing. The cost of fumigation is affected by the number of levels in the home as well as the square footage.
