I am one of Davids students and I can tell you he is an excellent music teacher as well as producer and vocal coach. I started my piano lessons with David and within 3 or so months I was already playing full songs. Currently I am recording an album project at Posterity Studios with David as my producer/engineer and vocal coach. I can tell you that so far what has been pre-produced is very impressive and I am enjoying the direction the album is taking. Not only am I having David provide some of the music, but I also have live instrumentation being recorded as well....guitars, drums, and bass along with my background vocalist. So if you are looking to take lessons for piano or for vocal lessons or plan on cutting an album, Posterity Studios is the place to go. I am pleased with the lessons and also with the work David is doing on my album project.

To say that Dom Minasi is an unbelievably talented musician is to paint a fraction of the whole picture. Yes, the man thinks music with every single breath and feels it with every fiber of his being. Yes, he has deconstructed every standard jazz tune known to mankind, only to re construct his very distinctive own version. As a teacher, you would be hard pressed to find someone as invested as Dom in passing down "the tricks" to save you enormous amounts of time trying to figure things out otherwise. He has written so much literature about music, musicians, on every subject, he has taught for over 50 years, (50 YEARS!!) at all levels from young to old, beginners to pros, there is hardly an instance he has not experienced in teaching. I, for one, must be the worst student Dom has ever had, because I come to his lessons highly unprepared, but Dom still keeps drilling concepts and notions and makes and sends me videos, articles, references, anything that will get my butt moving, as well as helping me overcome my insecurities about playing the instrument. He essentially believes in his students and will stop at nothing to see them succeed (Very stubborn individual, this one). I have a lot to thank Dom for as a teacher, not to mention the friendship that naturally blossoms when you work with the man. Could not get a better experience than this. I better go practice now!

I enjoyed my experience working with Rae. She is very encouraging and gives great honest feedback. She is an amazing singer and was able to help me understand pitch and how to approach each song with awareness, mindfulness and techniques that she taught me. I would definitely work with her again and would recommend her to others.

Serge is an extremely skilled top notch coach and amazing instructor that genuinely cares about his students. His training sessions are very challenging and rewarding. My strength and endurance levels have greatly improved in such a short time since training with Serge. He has patience and will take the time to go over moves as many times as you need, in a supportive and encouraging way. You will sweat, train hard and learn a lot from each lesson. My training sessions were by far the BEST that I've ever experienced. What marks a phenomenal instructor is his ability to teach in a particular way that impacts every aspect of a students life, and that is what Serge has done for me and I'm truly thankful. Overall, I would highly recommend Serge to all without any hesitation. Josette-

After a few months working with Gloria, I can confidently say she is a fantastic tutor. She manages to create a relaxed and conversational atmosphere during our lessons, yet she is exacting and pushes me constantly to use better better grammar and expand my vocabulary. I hope to continue to work with her in the future!

I came to David with a fairly insane goal. I had two months before I had to play guitar at a grad school audition. David took me from barely playing guitar to a successful audition and beyond. David has a really strong ability to tailor his lessons to my strengths. His method is really intuitive and simultaneously teaches music theory and improvisation alongside guitar skills.

I have never taken singing lessons before. With just a couple of lessons with Mara I have noticed a tremendous change in my vocals. I am able to reach notes that I did not know existed for me, I am in better control of my breathing, my phrasing is better and overall became more confident in my singing ability. Thanks Mara!

Pamela is wonderful! She's kind, knowledgeable, encouraging and packs so much into her hour lesson. My only downside is I haven't been practicing enough between lessons. But even with that weakness on my part, I'm seeing big improvents just from our sessions. I've had eight so far. Now that I'm committed to practicing every day , who knows how far I'll go? So glad I found Pamela!! She's great!!!

Annie is a wondeful teacher. At first when I decided to take vocal lessons I was afraid that I will not feel comfortable to sing infront of someone who is new. Annie made me so comfortable to sing infront of anyone and not feel shy about it at all. What I like about her too is that she tries to introduce me to new styles of music in order to improve my voice and breathing techniques. She also gives good advices that helps a lot!

Michelle has been working with my daughter weekly since early August. We couldn't be happier! Since her first lesson, Michelle has made my 10 year old feel comfortable and confident. Our daughter has been inspired by her lessons and literally doesn't stop practicing singing and keyboard. We have already recommended Michelle to other parents in our community.

I have been taking voice lessons since the age of 7, and after having only one voice lesson with Anette I have learned so much! I didn't realize how many concepts about the physical aspect of singing I did not fully understand. She is very knowledgeable on the subject and simplifies it so it's easier to comprehend. Even if you think you know everything there is to know about singing, Anette will surprise you!

Amazing vocal teacher! Nicky is a great vocal teacher who is kind and patient. She has been working with my 11 year daughter for about 3 years. Nicky makes the extra effort to use age appropriate songs and part of the lesson includes music theory. Win win! My daughter can’t commit to the practice time necessary with an instrument, so we went with vocal lessons with Nicky. With singing she can practice any time and anywhere. Nicky has been able to bring out some beautiful notes, making this mom very proud. Can’t beat the price - she comes to our home and is a very accommodating with our crazy schedule. Again she is an AMAZING vocal teacher!!

Working with Humberto has been fantastic. He will structure lessons to what you want from the experience. For me we are working on strong foundational knowledge of Spanish so that I can converse causally and in a business environment. I am quite enjoying the sessions.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is CPR training?

Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (better known as CPR) is a lifesaving manual technique that pumps oxygenated blood back into the body’s organs if someone’s heart or breathing has stopped. A variety of CPR training is available to community members, employees and healthcare providers. CPR training may last two to five hours or more, depending on the content and the target audience. During the training, students will learn how to recognize and respond to an emergency situation. There are different CPR techniques for adults and children, but with both you will learn how to determine whether the person is conscious before administering chest compression. During the training you’ll learn chest compression techniques for adults and different techniques for children between the ages of 1 and 8. Students learn how to properly administer chest compressions, when the technique is appropriate and when it is not, and how long you must perform rescue measures. Students also learn what an automatic external defibrillator (AED) is and how to use it if necessary to shock a patient before administering CPR chest compressions.

How do I become CPR and first aid certified?

You can earn CPR training and receive first aid certification in a number of ways. Choose an online course to learn the materials remotely and then find a testing location to complete the certification process with an in-person demonstration of your knowledge and skills. Encourage your workplace to host a first aid and CPR training so employees can learn what to do in case of a workplace emergency and how to respond with lifesaving techniques. You may also be able to take a CPR or first aid class in your community. A basic CPR training may run four to five hours. After receiving CPR training, you’ll know how to respond if an adult or a child goes into cardiac arrest or stops breathing. You’ll learn how to use chest compressions to keep blood pumping to a person’s organs, which can keep them alive until an emergency responder can arrive. First aid and CPR training can also include education about how to use an automated external defibrillator (AED).

What does a Spanish tutor do?

The goal of a Spanish tutor is to help students improve their Spanish reading, writing, comprehension, and conversation skills. The tutor’s approaches may vary, depending on whether the instruction is individual or a group class. Many Spanish tutors practice immersion — meaning they will speak only Spanish with their pupils. For students with little to no Spanish experience, the Spanish tutor may use a mix of Spanish and English to accustom their students to speaking the language.

A Spanish tutor can offer a wide range of services to their students. For students currently enrolled in a Spanish class through their middle school or high school, a Spanish tutor can help them with homework and language practice, as well as expanding their understanding of their current school curriculum. For adults, Spanish tutors will have different approaches based on that student’s need. Academics and those seeking high-level professional development for their career will often have more intensive and targeted lessons, drills, and interactive speaking tests. For adults who wish to learn conversational Spanish for fun or for travel, lessons may revolve around learning commonly used phrases and practicing speaking in relaxed settings.

What is first aid training?

With first aid training, you may be able to help save a life. First aid training can teach people who are not medical professionals how to help a sick or injured person in crisis before an ambulance arrives on the scene. Most commonly, first aid training helps teach you how to administer cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and use automated external defibrillators (AEDs).

First aid training can teach you how to respond in a variety of emergency situations, including:

  • Asthma attack
  • Anaphylaxis
  • Burns
  • Choking
  • Diabetic emergencies
  • External bleeding
  • Heart attack
  • Poisoning
  • Neck, head or back injury
  • Stroke
  • Seizure

First aid training classes may be offered by professionals who are affiliated with the Red Cross, which offers online, in-person, and blended training classes. First aid classes are also often offered through local recreation centers, city services, schools, hospitals and private companies.

What do you learn in a first aid course?

First aid training gives you a variety of lifesaving skills for responding to many different emergency situations. In a first aid course you’ll learn about how to examine someone who’s been hurt, how to use a defibrillator, how to administer cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), and how to control bleeding and trauma. Some courses include pediatric first aid as well as adult first aid; helping a choking infant, for example, is different from helping a choking adult. Although you can take CPR and automated external defibrillator (AED) courses separately, most first aid training includes both.

In a first aid course you’ll also learn how to respond to:

  • Wounds, including punctures, cuts and hemorrhages
  • Heart attacks, chest pain and respiratory arrest
  • Bone fractures, sprains and torn muscles
  • First-, second- and third-degree burns
  • Poisoning
  • Choking
  • Bites and stings
  • Hypothermia or frostbite
  • Shock and seizures
