Introduction: Hi, I am a working jazz pianist and recent graduate from the prestigious Eastman School of Music. I have a background in jazz and classical music and I specialize in jazz music, pop music, and gospel music. I teach beginner to advanced piano and music theory to accompany your piano skills as well. One of the big problems in learning piano is that the teaching methods used aren’t practical. The songs you want to play, the songs on the radio or pop songs aren’t taught. More specifically, the skills you need to play pop or jazz or to compose aren’t taught. Personally, I love helping to bridge the gap between the traditional training in piano fundamentals - which we cover and solidify- with the theory and skills needed to compose and to play jazz and pop. I especially love helping pianists wanting to explore different styles and become more interdisciplinary. Anyone can play piano and go very far. I’ll be there with you to challenge you and give you exactly what you need to not only play piano and the songs you love to listen to, but to also give you the tools to compose and improvise. I promise you that the way you view the instrument will change. You may know me from Reacttothek a youtube channel where I analyze kpop!

Seiji's cross-genre command of the piano and patient teaching skills helped me to become a better musician. From classical to jazz to pop, Seiji can make difficult concepts easy to assimilate for students of all skill levels. I highly recommend studying with him.

  • What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

We’re going to find out what your strengths and weaknesses are musically, which can take some time. After we set some musical fundamentals and techniques on the piano, we can work on composing and improvising or we can work on pieces of music you may like.

  • What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

I am a freelance musician in New York, and a graduate from the Eastman School of Music where I studied Jazz piano performance. I work as a jazz musician and church musician primarily and I hope to share some of the things I’ve learned along the way!

  • How did you get started doing this type of work?

I've been teaching students for 7 years now since I was in high school. Anyone can play music with the right guidance. I was lucky to have the right teachers at the right time, so this is a way for me to give back.
