Patrick takes a different approach than vanilla voice lessons. He is a voice physiologist so he literally fixes your instrument. The instruction can be intense but it is well worth it. In a short time I have improved in ways I did not think possible. I am looking forward to the coming months to see where my range and ability will be.
David's awesome! very knowledgable , friendly and a truly inspiring teacher. Unfortunately, I don't have time to commit to voice lessons right now, but once I do I most certainly will call David!
Mara has been giving voice lessons to my 10 yr old daughter for several months and she is amazing. She makes every lesson fun and engaging. Mara is well trained, a great teacher and an overall awesome woman. We could not recommend her more highly.
I've been taking voice lessons with Rae for about six months now, and I cant believe the amount of improvement I've made within that time frame. I originally didn't intend to take lessons with her, but merely have a coaching session of sorts after my unreliable teacher flaked out on me before an audition. I remember thinking how awkward when she started talking about what we would be working on next week because, well, I didnt think there would be a next week. But there was a next week, and many more to come after that. The amount of improvement I made after just one lesson with Rae was astounding. She is great at explaining the impossible. Rae is dedicated to teaching her students. She doesnt use the lessons as a sing along. She can and will correct your every tendency, but never in a way that is condescending. She truly is a great teacher. I have grown so much thanks to her, and not just musically. Ive become more observant and I feel much more confident. Ive noticed a significant improvement in my musical counting capabilities and overall tone quality when I play the flute. Not only am I learning how to sing but I am also learning bits of music theory along the way. We even alleviated my back pain! Who knew I was overarching?!? I sure didnt. Rae did. Ive come to realize that these are more than just voice lessons. Theyre oftentimes life lessons. I aspire to be on Broadway one day, which is the reason I started taking lessons in the first place, and realize that I should probably learn how to dance. I once said to Rae I cant dance and am not a dancer. A few months later, I changed my mindset and changed that statement to I dont know how to dance. I know understand that I am capable of so much more than I originally thought, and that I just need to learn how to do these things and will eventually discover what my limitations are. With my old teacher I felt as if I had a mediocre range. The highest note I would ever sing with her was a D and she would frequently have me struggling to hit notes far below my lower register. With Rae, I now realize that my range is almost double what I had originally believed it to be. I realize that my voice isn't pretty and wispy and high. I realize that I am strong and am a force to be reckoned with. I realize that I am a beginner who had bad habits and that there is no shame in that. I realize that I should act without hesitating and be big and uninhibited. And I realize I have a really awesome voice teacher.
I only had the pleasure of working with Pamela for a short period of time - but boy am I glad I did. I could really hear some major improvement in my voice after only a few lessons. The next time I'll come back I'll definitively make sure to contact Pamela! Thank you :)
Annie was absolutely amazing. First of all, I'm not the most confident when it comes to singing, I enjoy singing, and I write songs, but I often feel like I couldn't deliver when it comes to singing them. That's when I started looking into getting some voice lessons to help with my technique and hopefully unlock a few things! Annie showed up right on time for our first meeting with a free consultation- (awesome! who gets free stuff nowadays in New York?). She asked me what I wanted to achieve and asked me to show her my songs (in which I was nervous about but got over it quickly because she was super open minded about it). She pointed out the good things I did in the recordings and then gave me some pointers on the parts I could work on further with her, perfect and yes please. We've had 3 lessons so far and worked on 2 songs to keep the lessons exciting. She gave me a few exercises to do on my own, helped with breathing techniques, and even advised on some dietary factors that would help keep my voice healthy. I highly recommend her if you are looking for someone who cares about your progress, listens, is non-judgmental (my biggest need for my shyness), and has a whole lot of knowledge to give!
Michelle is an amazing & wonderful teacher! She is animated and engaging and very knowledgable. My eight year old daughter takes piano as well as voice lessons from Michelle, and she really looks forward to their meetings every week! I highly recommend Michelle!!
I had the pleasure of taking voice lessons from Barbara. She is super helpful, patient, positive and very encouraging. I will 100% recommend her.
Christine is a truly phenomenal teacher. If you have any hesitations about starting voice lessons because you are afraid of singing in front of other people, have no fear! Christine made me feel completely comfortable from the very first minute of our first lesson together. She is classically trained and extremely knowledgable about singing. I would recommend beginning lessons with her to get a solid technical foundation even if you eventually want to sing pop or R&B (i.e. she is not just for classical/opera singers!) That being said, I've met several of her other students and heard them sing and some are very serious students of the craft; she is an excellent teacher for experienced singers as well. During lessons, she plays her (baby?) grand piano in a large private area of her home. The walls in the singing area are filled with books of sheet music, but she also happily found specific songs online for me to work on when she didn't have the music already. She has an incredible ear- she truly listens to you and can pinpoint and explain to you exactly what to change (your posture or breathing, enunciation etc.) to instantly improve your tone and pitch. Improving your voice is a long process, and there are no magical tricks (except practice practice practice!). But with Christine as your guide, you will see improvement and most importantly, you will gain confidence. She truly believes in her students, which helps them believe in themselves too.
Anette gave voice lessons to my 11 year old daughter. She was knowledgable, patient, and fun. She worked on songs that my daughter wanted to sing. She was understanding about school schedules. And it was great to be able to hear the entire lesson through dropbox.
I took voice lessons with Dave for about 7 years. he's a great teacher : knowledgeable, patient, knows how to encourage students and make learning fun ... also good at explaining ... I feel I learned a lot from him and had fun always
My daughter has been studying with Ms. Phillips for several months now and I continue to be extremely impressed with the progress she has made. Ms. Phillips has made voice lessons a very positive, fun and inspiring experience in addition to instilling exceptional technique. We look forward to many more years of voice lessons with her!
I’m so glad I found John and Cathy and they hooked me up with Christie for voice lessons! I look forward to going every week. It really feels like family when you go in. Christie is an amazing teacher and I’ve already improved by leaps and bounds. I can’t recommend Rock House enough!
As I am away at College currently, and not able to take lessons in person, mandi is advising me on exercises I can do to improve my breathing and support, as well as the placing of my voice and improving my ability to sing on pitch. She has been very kind and patient, as well as immediately responsive to my questions. I look forward to meeting her in person when I am home from College and to taking lessons in person. I would recommend her to any student who is looking for a voice teacher."
In addition to Private Voice, I also hired Gargi to fill different time slots.
Working with Candice was one of the best decisions for my voice that I ever made. I had one-on-one lessons with her, culminating in a solo in a recital doing "Old Man River", and the quality and confidence in my singing ability was noticeably different. Not only did we go over the how to of singing, we went over what was happening as a singer performed, which once I started following (I'm REALLY bad at biology, haha), actually benefited my singing a good deal. Candice's specific teaching style is incredibly constructive to learning. She's patient and encouraging, and really explains things very well (will save the specifics for her classes!). And even just as a person, she's super friendly and fun to talk with, so voice lessons with her are anything but dry. She manages to blend effective teaching with actually having a good time while doing so. All in all, I can't recommend Candice enough. If you want to learn not just to sing, but to be confident with your singing (I NEVER would have attempted "Old Man River" if not for her lessons), give her a call.
I have been fortunate to have Marina as my voice coach for over a year since I started our voice lessons. Marina’s voice lessons have been invaluable in developing my singing skills. She is aware of a variety of approaches to teaching vocal and is continuously broadening her pedagogy while finding the best-practice suited for a particular lesson with a student. The voice and breathing exercises she taught me have made my vocal development consistent and strong. Our classes are always well informative, developmentally structured, productive, and very enjoyable. Not only Marina is a professional and talented singer herself with a long history of professional knowledge and experience, but she also possesses an exceptional ability to share her talent with students and to find a personalized way that would help them develop their own singing skills.
I sing on my church choir and noticed that I wasn't connecting to the directions of the music director. Terrence taught my son piano several years ago and was on his second year teaching my daughter. So I began taking voice lessons with Terrence and began learning how to control my breathing and protecting my vocal cords as well as learning about tone, pitch and stamina. I look forward to our next set of lessons which also fits my budget!
I have been a colleague of Richard's for about 10 years. About 6 years ago, I was having major struggles with my voice. I went to Richard to help me work through these problems. We started from scratch. Through the entire process, Richard was extremely patient. I never felt judged and always felt supported. I left each voice lesson feeling better about my voice, which is a rare feeling for me after a voice lesson. He is direct in expressing his ideas, which helps the singer easily translate them into singing. Plus, he's an outstanding person! I highly recommend Richard for a singer at any level, amateur or professional.
Amazing vocal teacher! Nicky is a great vocal teacher who is kind and patient. She has been working with my 11 year daughter for about 3 years. Nicky makes the extra effort to use age appropriate songs and part of the lesson includes music theory. Win win! My daughter can’t commit to the practice time necessary with an instrument, so we went with vocal lessons with Nicky. With singing she can practice any time and anywhere. Nicky has been able to bring out some beautiful notes, making this mom very proud. Can’t beat the price - she comes to our home and is a very accommodating with our crazy schedule. Again she is an AMAZING vocal teacher!!
We are so thankful we found Mariah! We live in a small town with no options for voice lessons. My daughter loves to sing, and I wanted to support her passion. I started an online search, and I found Mariah on Thumbtack. My daughter meets with Mariah through FaceTime once a week for 30 minutes. She has already learned so much, and her singing has improved significantly with only a handful of lessons. I can't wait to continue to watch her grow and pursue her love of singing with the help and guidance of Mariah!
