Reviews for Manhattan window replacement professionals
Jason R.
"We got scammed" was the first thing I said to my husband after we paid this company. I have never left anyone a bad review in my life, but this company was so frustrating that I'm writing this because I don't want anyone to go through what we did.
Our three windows in the bedrooms needed insulation, and one of them needed the locks replaced. My husband found them via Thumbtack with the complete scope of the job, and they came back with a quote of $250. Since the estimates we got from other companies were $85-95 per window, we felt $250 was reasonable and decided to hire them. Their workers came in and did a decent job on the bedroom windows, so we asked them to also insulate the three windows in the living room, figuring it would be another $250, maybe slightly less given the additional three windows didn't need lock replacement. They were in and out within about an hour.
We received their invoice after the workers left, and it was $1,500. We were shocked and called to speak to Andrey. We explained to him that the initial quote was $250 for the entire job (insulation of three windows and one lock replacement), but he said it was $250 per window because the first invoice we received was $250 with the quantity of 1, which we assumed meant one job instead one window. What didn't make sense to us was that 1) the three windows were in different conditions - one required lock replacement and the others didn't, so why would they be the same price? 2) he knew we needed work done on three windows, so why was the quantity 1, not 3? We tried to explain our views, but Andrey still insisted it was $250 per window, and there was absolutely no miscommunication on his part. Eventually it became insults from him like "You people from New York think you can do anything." After we offered to pay $500, he got extremely angry, screamed that he had been recording our conversation (which I'm glad he did) and he'd give our information to a debt collector or take us to court, called us bad people, and hung up on us.
Andrey texted us afterwards, asked us to "respect their hard work" and tried to justify their pricing, that it was within reason. But to us that was beyond the point. We reiterated that we did respect the work they did, but our problem was that the pricing was poorly communicated, through and through.
20 minutes later, the workers called us and said they were downstairs because Andrey had asked them to come back to our apartment to undo the work they did. (Which I had no problem with, but my husband didn't think that was the solution.) We made it clear that we WANTED to pay them, but a difference between $500 and $1,500 was completely out of our expectation. The workers asked us how much we were willing to pay, and we offered $800, but Andrey still refused to work with us. Finally we texted Andrey and said we'd pay what he asked ($1,400, which is what he offered after my husband talked to him initially), but we would be leaving them one-star reviews because we felt cheated.
We're willing to give them the benefit of the doubt - maybe they really charge triple the price and still get business. But it is undeniable that the initial invoice caused confusion and the communication was extremely unclear. How Andrey handled the situation was also mind-boggling. We understand that it's hard owning a business, especially during times like this, and by no means we were trying to not pay him. We kept trying to explain our position, hoping he'd work with us, but instead what we got was screaming insults and threats of undoing the work. For anyone who's considering working with them, do yourself a favor and make sure you triple-check the pricing. Or here's a more simple solution - don't hire them.
