Jason and his son did a great job re-grouting the tile in my bathroom and installing ceiling fans in two rooms. Communication and scheduling was easy. He was knowledgeable and his pricing was within my budget. I'd recommend him to anyone! Thank you!!

He showed up as scheduled, did a nice job caulking the tub. Left a minor mess, but it's a small NYC bathroom and I cleaned it up in a couple of minutes. I'd hire them again.

I hired Tony for a fairly challenging stone tile cleaning and grouting project. He was very professional and efficient: - Provided a quote based on photos of the tiles/shower area so it didn't take multiple appointments to get the job done - Was able to schedule the work immediately - Estimated 4 hours to complete the project onsite but was able to finish faster - Offered a follow-up visit if any additional work was needed once the tile and grout was ready for use I just recommended Tony to my neighbor across the hall for similar work.

Silvia was great, exceeded my expectations and made what was once a grimey move-in for our new apartment into a much better living situation. She cleaned the grout and tiles for our bathroom and it almost felt like new. She also did a great job with the floors and went above and beyond putting things away and helping setup our new place.

I was 100% satisfied with the work I had done by this company! They were very helpful and accommodating from the receptionist who answered the phone to the man who came to do my work. They came to my house the same day that I called! The gentleman who came to clean my tile and grout in my kitchen was prompt, knowledgeable, nice and thorough. My floors came out amazing!! The price they gave me was more reasonable than any other company around. I will definitely use this company for any other work in my house that I need!

I chose Stayaway Cleaning to clean both an apartment I was leaving and a house I was moving into. Both places were completed in such a professional and Grade A cleaning. Craig -Stayaway Cleaning cleaned both carpets and kitchen and bathroom in old apartment and left it immaculate. The landlord called to thank us so much for leaving the apartment looking brand new. Craig also shampooed carpets in the new house we moved into and revived a couch in which we thought for sure we would have to replace. I would recommend Craig- Stayaway Cleaning 100% and in the future will ONLY use his company. So very pleased . Thank you Craig .👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

We had chosen Marco based on his excellent reviews, but unfortunately we didn't have the same experience as most people. We hired Marco to replace flooring tile in our kitchen, foyer, powder room and laundry room. With the exception of one day where he had to cancel, he did arrive between 8am and 8:30am with a partner and they got to work right away. They were quiet and respectful, but the language barrier was an issue at times. Prior to starting the job, we had mentioned to Marco that although we weren't concerned about the walls since they were being painted, we did request that he be careful around the doors and wood trim which had been painted recently. After he was done, we saw mastic and grout on not just the doors and trim, but also the base of our kitchen cabinets. He wiped off a lot of it, but I continue to find it as I'm cleaning. I do wish he had been neater perhaps taping up a plastic or paper to protect the base of the doors and cabinets. We had also pointed out many areas where there was hazing on the tiles left from the grout not being cleaned off immediately. He tried to remove some of the haze on his last day, but it had been too late to wipe it off without using a haze remover. I wasn't planning on writing a review since his price was reasonable and the items I've mentioned can be cleaned up. However, a few weeks into the job and the grout is now coming out of the joints in pieces. I've attached photos of where I was using a lightweight stick vacuum to clean the kitchen floor and the grout just got sucked right up. When I went to investigate, the grout just crumbles into powder when you pick it up. I'm not a tile expert, but it seems like perhaps the grout that he used in this area was too dry? I'm pretty frustrated at this point because I keep finding little areas here and there where the grout has just disintegrated. I know there were areas where they had not fully scraped out the mastic between the joints and just laid grout on top (which I know isn't proper), so they went back and scraped out some of these areas and regrouted, but even then, this should not be happening. It's been exactly 3 weeks since he finished the job and the grout should not be coming up like this so easily; it's like powder. The cracked grout is throughout the floor. I can't even say it's concentrated to one area, so I don't know what happened, but it's very disappointing.

There’s nothing like walking into my home after a cleaning from Maria. Everything is SPOTLESS and it is such a weight lifted off my shoulder to know i can trust someone to get the job done correctly. I’ve hired other house cleaners in the past and none compare to the quality; Maria is simply the best!

We had a good experience with Tom. He showed up on time every day, gave a very reasonable estimate, and was a very hard worker. We're noticing some small issues since completion of the project (having to do paint touch-ups, remove hardened grout from floor/walls, and reinstall a towel bar that wasn't flush to the wall), but generally, we're very happy with the final product, which was a complete 180 from our original bathroom.

If I could give Jason 10 stars I would. EXCELLENT communication. HONEST and TRANSPARENT pricing. Showed up on time. Did the job (tearing down a tile wall, retiling and grout work) with a METICULOUS attention to detail. He cares about what he does and takes pride in his work and the experience working with him was hands down one of the best contractor experiences I've ever had. Trustworthy and an absolute pleasure to work with.

Ken did a great job repair and replacing about 34 crack ceramic tiles. Ken and his son Austin work very hard and and extremely professional. I also hired Ken to clean and recolor my grout to a nice brown color. My floor look great due to the hard work by Ken and his son. Highly recommend his craftmanship.

Although the housecleaner arrived on time, he was not very communicative as I showed him around and told him what needed to be done. My expectations were pretty low. I left him to clean and went to work. When I returned from work and opened the door of my apartment, all I could do was stand and stare. My loft had never been cleaned like this before. Also, my closets had never been organized like this before. I kept looking around the apartment to try to find something to be critical of and I couldn't find anything. The cleaning was done to PERFECTION. I will definitely continue to use this housecleaning service. I have used different services throughout the years; and I can't recall ever being this satisfied.

Before working with Nyoka my cleanings were a hit or miss, I had cleaners that couldn’t stay off their phones, or giving me half ass service!! I was disgruntled to say the least! Finding Nyoka was like a god send !!! She’s so thorough and pay attention to all my special requests! After her second time at my house I had to just make her a key! She is amazing!!! I wholeheartedly recommend her services!!! And her personality is dynamite total thumbs up

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How can I get my grout clean?

Dirt, mildew and grime can make your grout lines look downright tragic. If you have the ability, DIY tile and grout cleaning is definitely doable. Your main obstacles are time, project size, availability of the right materials and effort. Your first step in tile and grout cleaning is making sure the surface area is cleaned of basic dirt and buildup and wiped down. Be sure not to use a bleach-based cleaning agent, which could react dangerously with the vinegar used in later steps.

Depending on the delicacy of your tile and grout, it may be wise to start with water and friction before proceeding to a cleaning solution. In the shower you can spray the area while brushing gently, or use a spray bottle filled with warm water on countertops or floors. If water won’t do the trick, try a solution of equal parts warm water and white vinegar, and repeat the gentle brushing motion. This combination should begin to lift dirt and grime from the grout. For additional tile and grout cleaning power, baking soda applied directly to grout lines and sprayed with your water vinegar solution can help suds off sticky grime. If your DIY cleaning solutions aren’t doing the trick, store-bought sprays and pastes may have more cleansing power. Rinse thoroughly after cleaning and enjoy your sparkling clean grout.

Tile and grout cleaning supplies include:

  • Old standard or electric toothbrush
  • Stiff bristle brush
  • Spray bottle
  • White vinegar
  • Commercial grout cleaner

How much does it cost to clean tile and grout?

The national average cost for tile and grout cleaning ranges from $190 to $250. Pros may charge a flat fee or by the square foot. Rates can vary depending on the type of tile and grout you have (more delicate tiles may mean specialized products or careful handwashing), how dirty your tile and grout are, and what part of the country you are in (regional labor rates and costs to do business affect costs). For example, one floor cleaning company charges 75 cents per square foot for tile and grout cleaning for projects that permit cleaning by machine. Another company may charge $30-$50 per hour for hand-cleaning of tiles. Companies often charge a minimum fee for services to ensure their business expenses are met when they accept a job, no matter how small. In addition, a tile and flooring cleaning professional may charge added fees, such as $25 or more, to move heavy furniture or appliances.

How do professionals clean tile and grout?

If you need tile and grout cleaning and don’t have the time or mobility for scrubbing your entire house on your hands and knees, it’s time to turn to the pros. Tile and grout cleaning professionals have industrial-grade machines designed for the sole task of cleaning the porous materials of grout and tile. Typically, a cleaning pro will come out to assess the job and provide you with a quote. Often they charge per square foot (for example, 75 cents per square foot), with higher prices or an hourly rate for areas that will need hand cleaning. The national average cost for tile and grout cleaning ranges from $190 to $250. Once onsite, the pros thoroughly clean the area by wiping or sweeping down and then vacuuming up any dry dirt. Next a chemical tile cleaner is sprayed over the surface, causing dirt to loosen and adhere to the spray; the industry term for this is “suspension.” The pros then clean the floor with professional-strength machines, which often use a combination of steam, brushes and vacuum to loosen, agitate and lift entrenched dirt. Your floor is then rinsed, removing all the spray. Usually a small room can be cleaned in under an hour. Applying a sealant afterward is recommend and will also affect cost.
