My 20 years of performing experience and education, enable me to communicate the process of learning the drums, in a clear, logical progression, no matter what your skill level may be. I love watching my students progress. Some have gone on to gigs with major label rock bands, others are pursuing under graduate and graduate degrees in jazz and some just want to have fun jamming with their friends. Sharing what I know and seeing it make people better musicians is a pretty cool way to spend the day.(show more)

I studied with world-renowned teachers and players like Ricky Sebastian, Zach Danziger, John Riley, Joe Nero and Bob Harsen, and I attended both Philadelphia University of Arts and Manhattan School of Music, as well as Berklee Summer Session so I have both the formal training as well as the passion required to turn people into REAL drummers--and not just give people something to do for an hour each week. Through good technical orientation and a firm understanding of musical notation I ignite the passion in them to strive to actually play drums. My students go from having never held a drum stick to actually playing professional gigs in the space of five years. Helping people discover the vast benefits that come from studying a musical instrument, from improving concentration and quelling anxiety and stress to uncovering and discovering talent.(show more)

If Rock Band just isn't cutting it, perhaps it's time to drum your heart out on a real set. After a lesson with me, you can stop wondering how John Bonham felt when playing Moby Dick, or how it feels to kick a bass drum or snap a rimshot on the snare drum. It doesn't matter if you don't have any experience behind a drum set. We'll make it happen! On the other hand, If you're an already-practiced drummer who wants to get your playing to next level, I can help you with your hand/foot technique, extend your vocabulary in different styles, have a better sense of time, develop your independence and improve your reading. I have a studio in Williamsburg. You just need to bring your sticks (okay, I can bring some) and be ready to play drums. If you have drums or some pads at home, I can come to your place too. About me: - Graduated from L'aula de musics in Barcelona and from Berklee College of music in Boston, Performance Major as a scholarship student, Summa Cum Laude. - Has studied with many great drummers/mentors such as Kim Plainfeld, Dave Dicenso, Kenwood Dennard, John Hazilla, Mark Walker, Neil Smith, and Quim Sole amongst many others. - Experience playing with rock, funk, R&B bands, and jazz/Latin ensembles and studio work in South America, Europe and USA - Over 500 shows only last year, including performances with Tessa Makes Love with Ian McDonald (Foreigner and King Crimson), H.R (Bad Brains), Justin Baron (opening for J-Lo, Ariana Grande and Jason DeRulo), Nicole Raviv (Canada got Talent) feat Grammy award winner Carlos Alomar (James Brown, David Bowie), Gary Barlow (Take That and X-Factor), J'sun (The Voice), Numasbala (album debut mixed by Scott Hull, Bob Dylan, Sting, and Steely Dan), and Felipe Staiti (Los Enanitos Verdes) amongst many others - Experience teaching both privately and through schools, having students ranging from 6 to 62 years old -Judge for the Guitar Center Drum Off (2014, 2015)(show more)

Teaching is an art in itself. You really want the student to learn while having fun as well. No matter how detailed the work may be. Sharing the information and watching the looks on students faces when they are able to do something new that they never thought they could do.(show more)

Drum Lessons that will help you reach your musical goals! My lessons are open to all ages and all levels. I have 20 years of experience on my instrument and have learned some very valuable information during my journey that I would love to pass on to my students. My training is in jazz, but I am very comfortable in all styles of music, from blues and pop to rock and gospel. I have also worked a great deal on technique and sight reading and have a lot of books/exercises that can help develop those aspects of drumming. I am very passionate about my instrument, and I truly believe my attitude is contagious. As a teacher, my main objective is to inspire my students, because when someone is motivated, the work doesn't seem to be as much of a chore. When students study with me, they will be inspired to drum and practice long after the lesson is over.(show more)

My understanding of rhythm is very deep, from the most basic to the most subtle. I am a musical drummer, not a technical machine. I have a music degree but I leave it at home when I settle in to create music. Because it's not a science, it's a language. I will steep you in this language of rhythm no matter your experience, age, or background. I love doing something outside the digital world, something with my hands and feet that touches the primal core inside all of us. I want you to experience that.(show more)

I am constantly listening to new trends in pop and rock music, and my youth, and activity in the music scene gives me insight into the interests of young students. I am, conversly, a lover of all genres, and there is no style or Era of music I won't touch. The rich legacy of music is a conversation that started before we were here, and will continue after we're gone. An opportunity to pass the gift of music on is the opportunity to make an investment in the near, and distant future.(show more)
Drum Lessons with Rob Garcia. I teach at my studio in the Windsor Terrace/Park Slope section of Brooklyn (two blocks from the F train at 15th St). I will also travel to the students. I teach my students to play the music they like. I encourage self-expression and creativity as well as learning the necessary skills to read and play music with other people. My teaching studio is equipped with two drum sets, piano (I often play piano with the student on drums) and a stereo system. I'm well versed in many popular and not so popular styles of music/drumming (rock, pop, jazz, funk, hip-hop, reggae, Latin, Brazilian, swing, dixieland, drum and bass, to name a few). Bio: Rob has been teaching drum students (from age five through adult) for over 17 years, and has been a professional performing musician for 20 years. He is a member of the Brooklyn Music Teacher's Cooperative. He has also taught drums as well as jazz and percussion ensemble at the Berkeley-Carroll School, P.S. 184, P.S. 10, and The British International School of New York. "A prime mover in the current Brooklyn jazz scene" (Time Out-New York) and "one of New York's great jazz drummers and composers (Capital, New York), Rob Garcia continues to be a strong presence in the New York and international jazz scene as a sideman and bandleader. He has collaborated with such stellar artists as Joe Lovano, Dave Liebman, Wynton Marsalis, Vince Giordano, Woody Allen and Joseph Jarman and has played on over 40 albums including grammy winners. Rob's album, "Perennial" (BJUR 012) was in the "10 Best Jazz Albums of 2009" in the New York Observer. Woe no more. Henning Stumm will teach you the basics and the essentials for you to master drum playing.

I incorporate historic backgrounds and the spiritual relation of drumming in various cultures into my lessons.
