Tad is absolutely everything you want when you are just learning a new instrument. My 8 year old wanted to learn how to play and I am glad we chose Tad. He not only knows the instrument well, but he is an excellent teacher. He teaches from the ground of learning how to read music and properly holding the sticks. My son decided that he didn't want to play after all, but if I were learning I would want Tad as my teacher. Thanks Tad!!

If you are looking to start playing the drum set and need a guide or you are stuck and do not know how to advance even further in your desire to become the drummer you want to become, then I can help you. Lessons are available for all ages and skill levels on a one-on-one instruction type basis. You will advance at your own pace as the curriculum will be tailored just to fit your needs. Some of the topics we can work on are as follows: * Musicality * Styles * Dexterity * Rudiments * Time * Improvisation * Repertoire and more Lessons can be held at your home in the NYC area, in my studio in the Prospect Lefferts Gardens in Brooklyn (Prospect Park stop of the B, Q, and S trains), or even online via Skype. Rodrigo has been teaching drum students (from ages five through adult) for more than 10 years and has been a performing artist for almost 15 years. He has been an adjunct member of the New York University adjunct jazz faculty, a teacher assistant to professor Rich Shemaria at NYU, and founder and director of a music school in Chile for more than and years and had experiences as a private instructor, presenting clinics and masterclasses around the globe. Rodrigo Recabarren was born in Santiago, Chile, and holds a bachelor in music from the Ponticia Universidad Catolica de Chile (PUC), where he formed part of the PUC Jazz Big Band, as well as a large number of varied percussion ensembles with whom he performed in several venues in Santiago and the rest of Chile. In 2007, he founded the music school Tresillo in Santiago, Chile. Today, Tresillo has two different locations in the city and has over 150 students, making it one of the largest schools in Santiago. Rodrigo currently holds the position of general director and is supported by nine other teachers, all of whom are professional musicians with vast experience in music education. Rodrigo received in 2008 the prestigious Beca Presidente de La Republica full scholarship to pursue a master's degree in jazz performance at the New York University (NYU). During his studies at NYU, he became a member of the NYU Jazz Orchestra, with whom he recorded an album for Half Note Records and performed in several important scenarios across the United States as well as Europe. This also allowed him to collaborate with renowned professors such as Billy Drummond, John Scofield, Brad Shepik, Dafnis Prieto, Wayne Krantz and Kenny Wener, among others. He got his master's degree in November, 2010. Currently, Rodrigo lives in New York City and actively participates in multiple musical projects that perform regularly in the city, such as the Melissa Aldana Trio, John Kwassman's group, Camila Meza group, and the Akira Ishiguro's Beautiful round. He is leading his own trios Novas Trio and Standards Trio. Rodrigo also has several international tours booked for 2013 and 2014 in Latin America, the United States, Asia and Europe. I hired Peter for advanced drum lessons. My lessons are bi-weekly and at times weekly. It’s been 3 months since my initial lesson. I initially sought after drum lessons to help improve my skills in fills, timing, and to increase my foundation in Jazz, rock and Latin drumming. I found my accomplishments under Peter’s guidance to surpass my expectations. Peter is a patient teacher. He encourages you not to give up. His home teaching setup is efficient and the environment is conducive to learning. Peter is friendly so you won't feel nervous or uncomfortable during the lesson. At times when I’m stuck on learning a new a new technique, he offers good suggestion that actually work to help me “level up.” I have a busy schedule (like all of us). Peter is flexible and patient. He is always willing to accommodate his lessons to my schedule, learning style and goals I would like to accomplish. I recommend lessons with Peter to drummers (beginners to advanced) who appreciate effective teaching and value results.

About

I hired Mr. Ripley to give introductory percussion lessons to my 12 year old son who has expressed interest in pursuing the arts. We have had 5 sessions with Mr. Ripley and my son is very pleased with the way he tries to teach what he has interest in. Mr. Ripley connects with his students in a very effective manner that urges them to strive for what they enjoy doing. In just these 5 lessons my son has gone from knowing very little about drums to a adequate basic understand of percussion. Although I may fear loud drumsets in our basement in the future, I feel confident that Mr. Ripley has expressed how important it is to do what you love when it comes to the arts. For that, I am very grateful.

New York Youth Musicians provides high quality, well-rounded music education without the expense of programs that we are compared to such as pre-college Programs at Juilliard, Manhattan School of Music and the like. We offer private lessons for the following majors: * Piano * Guitar * Drum set * Orchestral Percussion * Solo Marimba * Saxophone * Clarinet * Flute We offer music therapy for children with special needs. We also offer music production and engineering for older students interested in involvement in modern styles of music such as hip-hop, pop and dance. We have a magical way of incorporating music theory, ear training, music history and music technology into our lessons, making it a fun learning experience for our students. They leave our lessons wanting to share all of the new information that they've learned, and you'll be impressed by their new found knowledge in music. Our "PEP!" program includes over a dozen master classes given by well accomplished and famous musicians. It's a great opportunity for our students and families to learn and interact with these notable musicians. Our director, Ms. Diana, provides free ensemble rehearsals throughout the year for our "PEP!" members. We have performed band arrangements of songs by Panic! At the Disco, Eminem, and classical ensemble pieces as well. Contact us to schedule a free introductory lesson!

I am a performer and teacher with 15 years of drum experience. I am currently the drummer for a popular band called The Stumblebum Brass Band, as well as a freelance in other projects and I love to teach. I teach drums and percussion specifically geared towards mastering the drum set. I have learned from the greats including Andrew Cyrille, Nasheet Waits, Bob Gullotti and many disciples of the Alan Dawson school of percussion. Alan, the teacher of Tony Williams among others, taught how to become interdependent between all 4 limbs to utilize the drumset to the fullest. I am able to teach all styles including jazz, rock, blues, funk, punk, latin, classical, while invoking this method. I will give you the skills you need to read music and use written music in your own practice in order to make you a great drummer.
