Mike did a awesome work for cleaning the carpets and rugs. He is very friendly, prompt and professional. The carpet had some pet stains which was hard to get rid of, but Mike spared no effort to clean and disinfect it. After several hours of hard work, the carpets in all the rooms and basement just looked like new. I would definitely recommend him.

I've used a bunch of carpet cleaners before. AMSD is the best carpet cleaner I've used by far, their rates are very competitive and the tech was very helpful. Will definitely use again and recommend!

I really loved Smart Cleaners, and I'm a total neat freak. Oana, the professional cleaner who came to my apartment in Brooklyn, did an amazing job in just 3.5 hours. Our bathroom and tub were overtaken with mold from prior use by other tenants, and our kitchen also needed some deep cleaning as well. The results were thoroughly spotless. I love that they use eco friendly products. Highly recommend Smart Cleaners to anyone!

I ended up not using their services ultimately, but Patricia was courteous and prompt and they offer carpet cleaning services too, in addition to regular home cleaning. I had a very good interaction with Caribbean cleaning and would contact them directly next time instead of going through the bidding process

Phil has the right equipment, the knowledge, and the brawn to do the job the right way. I tried the "do it yourself" carpet cleaners which had little effect compared to the machinery and solvents Phil has. Money well spent for me with a surprisingly good outcome.

Full move-in clean including carpets and windows. Joanna is excellent with communications and follow-up. Quick and efficient. Her staff are skilled and courteous. A few areas that needed extra attention where covered. The carpets really needed a second wash to get them thoroughly clean which she included in the original price regardless of the fact that they need to return again. I really appreciated the flexibility and accommodation regarding our move in date and our tight time constraints between closing escrow, getting access, and our shipment arriving with all our things. No rescheduling or hidden fees. Great service and reliable. I'll be using them again for bi-monthly cleaning.

At first, when I signed up for thumbtack, I was really skeptical of hiring someone. After getting 5 quotes, I decided to go with Triborough Cleaning Services, Inc (They gave me a really reasonable rate.) Two professionals showed up to my apartment 5 mins early with all their eco-friendly products and cleaning equipment. They came with soo many things I had to ask the cleaner if I was going to be charge more money and they said "NO", it's part of the service they provide. The professionals detailed (deep cleaned) my apartment including hand scrubbing the floor (Just like my mother). All my baseboards was dusted, light switches cleaned, oven, refrigerator and they're incredible at organizing. I will be using this company for services every week and I will like everyone to know they are a really good company. Overall I'm more than 100 percent happy with the service and attention to detail. (They also moved almost all my furniture and cleaned under them) Amazing!!!!!!

We were potty training our two year old son, and of course had some accidents along the way that left us with some pretty nasty carpet stains. We are already environmentally conscious, and are even more so after having a child. PureGreen Carpet cleaning was the perfect solution for us. They use natural and organic cleaning products - so are better for the environment and are not harmful to us. They provided prompt service, arrived on time, were friendly, and got the job done - all stains gone!

Stephen has cleaned my carpets several times. Each time it was professionally done and the carpets looked brand new! He always showed up on time and I appreciated that because I have a very busy schedule and need someone who is dependable. I recommend Stephen to my friends because he does a really good job.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

Who cleans area rugs?

Like your carpets, area rugs should ideally be cleaned at least once a year to remove dust and dirt and help them last longer. In general, carpet cleaning professionals also clean area rugs. Some rug cleaners bring their cleaning equipment to your home, while others remove your area rugs and clean them at their facilities. Either way, the rug should be cleaned with the solution most appropriate to its specific fabric and construction. It should also be completely dry before you return it to the floor.

How often should carpets be steam cleaned?

Dirty carpets can be unhealthy for the people living in the home, particularly those who have allergies, so it’s important to have them cleaned regularly; simply vacuuming once or twice a week isn’t enough. Carpet cleaning should be done by a professional carpet cleaning service at least once a year to remove grime and help extend the life of your carpet. Most carpet manufacturers recommend professional steam cleaning, which penetrates deep into the carpet fibers and lifts out both dirt and the pollutants that get tracked inside. Steam cleaning also removes most of the moisture, so carpets dry quickly enough for homeowners to resume using them the same day. Between professional carpet cleanings, your carpet may need an emergency spot cleaning. Pet accidents, food or drink spills, and more can often be effectively cleaned with some water and a drop of white vinegar, although many cleaners will also make house calls for smaller spills and hard-to-clean spots like wine or grease stains.

How much does it cost to clean a rug?

Area rugs are typically found in high-traffic areas of the home, like hallways and entryways, so they collect more dirt and stains than simple vacuuming can handle. Similar to carpet cleaning, professionals can come to your home to deep-clean your area rugs. The national average cost for rug cleaning ranges from $80 to $120, but may be higher or lower depending on the rug’s size and fiber type. Rug cleaners generally charge by the square foot; for example, a standard 8-foot by 10-foot rug costs an average of $100 to clean. Natural fiber rugs, such as wool or silk, are usually more expensive to have cleaned than synthetic rugs. A carpeting cleaning company may charge on average $1.50 per square foot to clean a synthetic rug, $2 per square foot for a wool rug, and $3 per square foot for a silk rug. Some delicate rugs need to be washed by hand, which increases the price. Carpet cleaning companies often offer additional services, such as removing odors or applying moth deterrent, which can add 20 cents to 25 cents per square foot.

How much does it cost to clean a carpet?

Carpet cleaning costs vary depending on the type of cleaning, such as steam cleaning, and whether there are any stains that require special treatment. The main cost factors are the square footage of the carpet and the material it’s made from. The national average carpet cleaning price ranges from $100 to $130 for a typical suburban home, but steam cleaning prices start at an average of $120. In general, professional carpet cleaning ranges from an average of 20 cents to 50 cents per square foot, depending on where you live. Many companies have a minimum fee or room requirement — such as two rooms for an average of $40 each — and will charge more to clean carpeted stairs or a second floor. Finally, the carpet fiber type, density and pile will also affect the cost of cleaning; man-made fibers are stain-resistant and easier to clean, while wool carpeting is sensitive to water and requires more care.

How much does it cost to clean an area rug?

Whether your pet had an accident, the party got too wild, or your kids can’t control their juice boxes — we all need rug cleaning from time to time. In fact, even if you don’t have a spill or spot, it’s wise to have your area rug cleaned approximately once a year to keep the rug fibers in good health. In general, rug cleaning prices depend on the square footage of the rug, what the rug is made of, whether any repairs are needed, and whether you require the pro to travel to your location or provide pickup and drop-off services. Nationally, average area rug cleaning prices range from $80 to $120.

Wool and silk area rugs typically cost more to clean than rugs made from synthetic fibers because the more delicate materials take more care and may require specialized cleaning fluids. For example, a synthetic rug may cost $1.50 per square foot to clean; a wool, cotton, or chiffon rug could be $2 per square foot; and a silk or Navajo wool rug could cost $3 per square foot. The two most common rug cleaning methods are steam and chemical cleaning. The costs for the two methods are often the same, although a steam-cleaned rug will take longer to dry due to the moisture. If your area rug needs odor removal, moth deterrent, or hand washing, there will be additional charges.
