FAQs
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
Each and every lesson I conduct is tailored towards the musical goals of the student. I believe in engaging lessons that students will enjoy but also learn a great deal from. For young beginners I show them fun breathing exercises, teach them to sing with scale degrees (numbers) i.e. 1, 1-2-1, 1-2-3-2-1 etc. I sing short melodies to them and ask them to sing them back to me, then I ask the student to sing a short melody which I then sing back to them. Then we sing songs that they may like or that I have chosen for them. With an older beginner students, I teach them more advanced breathing techniques, take them through some foundation building scales- from here I can assess what areas of the voice need work, so I will show the student how to achieve optimal vocal health and the proper vocal application. We will then proceed to sing through their chosen or suggested song choices.

- How did you get started doing this type of work?
I’ve been performing professionally for over 20 years. I am formally trained as a singer/composer. I started singing when I was a child and in my early teens started performing with a vocal trio at various underage venues. I began singing jazz in my mid to late teens, then went on to study jazz voice at university. All the while I performed at weddings, corporate gigs, then I got into television and sang in countless tv orchestras, radio ads, commercials. I also stated developing my own projects which eventually opened the door to touring around the world and winning awards!
