Sun Echo was the videographer to my daughter's wedding July, 2015. Alex Cole was given carte blanche to film from pre wedding dressing shoots to the last dance of the reception. His work was fantastic; he caught all the key moments and more. At the church he was respectful and unobtrusive and dressed very professionally He is very prompt to deal with, friendly and pleasant and very reasonably priced. and, he delivers the video on time! I could not have asked for better. HIRE HIM!!!!

We had an awesome experience with Leif and his photography skills. He was very flexible with scheduling and very accomodating. He truly captured the essence of my children through beautiful pictures. They did many different poses, different scenery, and wonderful action shots that really displayed my children's personalities. I highly recommend his services to friends and family. We will definitely be using Leif again.

My name is Mark Groaning and I recently had the pleasure of working with Mr. Baird on a promotional film that I hired him to do for Mark Groaning Experiences: Creating Art LIVE! I presented him with an outline of what I was originally looking for, I say "originally" because the project changed several times over the course of several months of shooting, as does often happen with my projects. Mr. Baird was responsible for attending production meetings, recording footage at my live art performance events and work sessions at my studio. He is punctual with appointments, professional with my clients and personable. Mr. Baird has that special eye for capturing key moments, locations and the timing that is required to edit those moments into a product that I am very happy with. Mr. Baird is an excellent photographer as well as being professional and having the tenacity to stick with this project through the several months that it required to complete. Loren adapted to changes in direction and ideas, took them in stride and forged them all into an excellent film that surpassed my expectations. You can see his video here. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gFRh8MuXKfQ&list=UUnaXanx0XQRGIS_A2HxF2kg I can only imagine Mr. Baird honing his skills and becoming better and better as he gains more experience and opportunity

Kyle Roof is one of the most talented and innovative shooter/editors I have ever worked with. He will take an ordinary subject and create an extraordinary production, whether it is a wedding, a doc, or a narrative. One of my favorite memories is Kyle at Stonehenge (England) in the freezing cold placing cameras around the lawn. While everyone else was huddling, Kyle was shooting sunrise among the stones.

Nate is amazing at video production! Highly recommended! We're so happy we found him on Thumbtack. He was the perfect person to pick for filming and producing our company overview video about why ClinicTracker, a mental health and substance abuse EHR is different from the competition. He very efficiently helped us film our 2:10 video in about 3 hours from set up to finish. We loved the work he did with our logo making it animated during the outro of the video which we we're presently surprised to see. The sound effects and background music were both on point with the theme of the video and sounded great. He took care of our edits after we received the rough copy within hours to include brightening the video some and raising the call out up introducing the person speaking. The pricing was awesome, and we received more value than the cost of his service. We will certainly choose Nate again for future video services. Choose him and you won't go wrong, promise. What we loved most about working with Nate the most is that he was willing to do whatever it takes to ensure we were happy with the final product. You can watch the work he did for us here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EtPtp_1NRGk Thanks again! Marc Bovenzi Digital Marketing Specialist www.ClinicTracker.com

During my entire wedding day I barely knew Adam was there! He blended in nicely and was able to capture all the important moments throughout the day without being a bother. As I was watching through the videos I was surprised to see how much I had already forgotten about! Having these memories on video is so special for my husband and I and we love watching them often. Adam was extremely friendly and accommodating. He made sure to include moments that he knew were important to us, including our entire first dance which was choreographed, and all of the speeches. The videos were edited nicely and run smoothly! The day went by so fast and we are so thankful to have our special moments on video to cherish forever. Thank you Adam!

I hired Jory to film two videos for my band, and also to make our website. Jory was professional, easy to work with and did an incredible job on everything. He's my go to guy for everything media related, and I'll definitely be hiring him again in the future. If you're looking for high quality work, I highly recommend him.

Our company hired Mr. Kramer for a commercial we needed to make for a contest. There were a number of difficult shots and transitions that we were afraid would be too challenging to film in the way we hoped. Mr. Kramer's expertise and ideas immediately put us at ease. His input made things turn out better than we imagined, and we couldn't be happier with the finished product. Additionally it should be noted that Mr. Kramer (Nate, as he prefers to be called) was a pleasure to work with. He has a great sense of humor, listened to everything we had to say, and was never pushy despite the wealth of experience he has behind the camers. Our happiness with the commercial was always his top priority and we'd definitely hire him again. Highly recommended for anyone's video or photographic needs.

We are creating cinematic films for any event. Palette Films is a small group of creative artists that strive to break the stereotype of a cheesy wedding video and work to present fresh, creative, modern wedding films. Palette Films is mainly owned and operated by a brother-sister dynamic duo. Mike and Salina Giardino greatly enjoy working with couples and families to capture those priceless moments and miracles of your special day. By having a smaller team of artists, we are able to take time to get to know and focus on each of our couples. By doing this, we can create a uniquely styled film that is made personal for each individual couple. Each of our films is different; no two are alike. In addition to weddings, Palette Films is always up for creative ideas and challenges. From political videography and corporate business work, to birthdays and special family events, we are always looking for new ways to exercise our creative and technical skills.

      Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a videographer and what do they do?

A videographer professionally films weddings and other events and edits the footage to create film keepsakes or marketing materials for their clients. Wedding videographers record all the key elements of your wedding day, ceremony and reception, and then edit the hours of film during post-production to make a wedding video, social media highlight reels, and any other film features you choose. Wedding videography captures, in live action, your vows, the cake-cutting, the first dance, reception toasts, the decor, the guests and all the details of your day. Many wedding videographers also interview guests (based on an interview list provided by the couple) and incorporate the recorded responses into the wedding video. Event videography typically costs less than wedding videography, as events are shorter with less detail. The national average cost for event videography is $500-$760, while the national average cost for wedding videography is $990-$1,260. A videographer usually does not need to be licensed, but it is important to confirm they have insurance and good standing in the business community, as well as good client reviews. A great majority of the work happens during post-production. The pros watch and blend together the hours of footage they took (sometimes from multiple cameras) to capture the story of your wedding day or event.

How do you choose a wedding videographer?

A wedding videographer will create a lifetime memory for you from edited video footage of your wedding day, ceremony and reception. Choosing a wedding videographer starts with looking online at portfolios of their past work. There’s no need to talk to anyone unless you love what you see. Next, make sure they have good reviews and past client experience; don’t be shy about asking for references if there aren’t any posted online. When you find someone who has a style you love, ask if they are available on your wedding day. If so, it’s time to talk pricing. Be clear about your maximum budget, and ask what kind of packages they offer. Pricing will depend on the number of crew needed for filming, the hours they are required to be onsite, post-production editing, and the length of the final product. Talk with several wedding videographers to get a feel for what prices are like in your region. Nationally, the average cost for wedding videography ranges between $990 and $1,260 per event. Once you agree on a product and have a plan, get everything in a written and signed contract. Clearly state the details of what is expected for your wedding day and from the final product. Be prepared to pay a deposit to reserve their services for the day, then pay the remainder upon receiving the video.

What should you ask your wedding videographer before hiring?

Finding the perfect wedding videographer doesn’t have to be stressful. Asking a few key questions upfront will help you find the right fit for your big day. Before talking with wedding videographers, research their work online. Look at their websites, business profiles and social media, and see what their finished wedding videos look like. If the style fits what you’re envisioning, it’s time to reach out. During initial contact, make sure you get along with the person. This is important since they’ll be interacting with you and your guests.

Your first question should be about their availability; there’s no point in going further if they’re booked on your wedding day. Ask to see references if they’re not readily available online. Next, it’s time to talk about money. Ask how they determine rates or what kind of packages they offer. When you settle on a rate and the services you want, make sure to have a written contract that outlines everything, including cost, length of time they film, what post-production will include, and when you can expect to receive the edited project.

When do you pay your wedding videographer and wedding photographer?

Most wedding videographers and photographers require a set deposit when you hire them. Wedding season is a busy time and a deposit secures that vendor’s services for your wedding date. It also protects the vendor if the couple changes their mind at the last minute, and they can’t find a new booking and lose work for the day. The deposit may be anywhere from 20 percent to  50 percent of the agreed-upon total price. Always get a written confirmation that your deposit has been received.

The remainder of the wedding videography and photography bill may be due in the week before to your wedding or on the day of the wedding. Other vendors may require a second payment immediately before the wedding and a third and final payment after the wedding video or photos are delivered. Each vendor has their own policies, so before hiring be sure to read, understand and agree to payment protocols. There is no requirement for tipping wedding videographers or photographers, but if you do want to tip them, the end of the reception is the appropriate time.

How much is videography for a wedding?

Wedding videography is one thing many couples regret not paying for. It may seem like just another expense during wedding planning, but it’s really special to have a moving memory of your big day. The national average cost for wedding videography is $990-$1,260. Pricing can vary depending on wedding length, special film features, the amount of editing required, and how many videographers are needed to cover the event. Many videographers offer packages that provide different levels of service. A very simple wedding documentary could be $600 or more, while a full-scale cinematic experience involving multiple videographers could be $2,500 or more. Here’s an example of average package pricing:

      • Package 1: $1,400
        • Footage during and after the ceremony, including highlights requested by the couple.
        • Two cameras with audio equipment.
        • DVD including a 3- or 4-minute edit to a song of the couple’s choice and a 45- to 50-minute raw edit covering the entire event.
        • Recordings of guests’ good wishes to the couple.
      • Package 2: $1,800
        • Includes everything from Package 1, plus an additional videographer (2 total) and aerial videography.
Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
