We have both of our children taking lessons with Tom for more than a year now. He has made it fun, enjoyable, and teaches them the right techniques without the drudgery. He weaves in rhythm and theory and guides the kids to select music that inspires and motivates them. He has also been very understanding and accommodating of our crazy sports schedules. He's just fabulous!
Deborah made the lessons fun and she was also very encouraging and patient. Would definitely recommend.
We have been taking piano lessons from Mr. Wheatley for about 4 months. Overall it has been a great experience. He has a casual air but is a stickler with technique. Mr. Wheatley's style is a good fit for someone who is put off by the formality of many classical piano teachers but want to learn classical piano. We would recommend his services without hesitation.
Due to my current vocal limitations, we had a mini-session during which Cara gave me excellent vocal advice. She is clearly knowledgeable and experienced - as well as warm and encouraging! I look forward to working with her and feel confident that my singing will improve under her guidance.
My daughter has had 2 lessons so far and she has so much fun at them. She is learning, but having fun at the same time
When I was looking for a piano teacher I had two basic criteria: (1) must work well with adults, and (2) have no expectations for the speed of my learning, thus put no pressure on me. Beata Golec, PhD. matched these two criteria plus more. Having lessons with Beata is a fun experience. Besides being able to explain different playing techniques, she explains music history and theory and how it influences the piece Im studying. This knowledge adds to my overall enjoyment and understanding. I am also amazed by her ability to look at a piece of music and immediately understand its nuances. If you want to learn more than merely mechanics of playing the piano, Beata is the person to learn from. In addition to being a great teacher, she is a delightful person to spend an hour with.
In the two years I studied from Rhonda I learned more about the piano than I had in my previous eight years of piano lessons. Not only did she help me to improve my technical abilities but my expressive abilities as well. She pushed me to improve my skills and never allowed me to plateau, always pushing me on to something that would continue to challenge me as an artist. I would recommend her to anyone. She is truly passionate about music, which makes her an even better instructor.
Cat was extremely enthusiastic and willing to take the time with my daughter to go over things numerous times when having private flute lessons. She helped my daughter have fun playing flute and it wasn't like work when we prepared for lessons or went to lessons. Cat followed through on organizing ensemble partners for my daughter and helping with extra practices as well as coming to events when my daughter was performing. We would highly recommend Kat as a teaching professional.
We've Had 3 lessons but so far it's been wonderful. My 5 year old enjoys Gina and her lessons. She is very good at holding her attention and gauging when my kid has had enough. We are just trying out the piano so the trial price is perfect. Gina is punctual and professional.
Karen has been teaching piano lessons to my daughter for almost three years now. I am extremely impressed on how patient Karen is with the children. She goes above and beyond to make the student feel comfortable and enjoy the love of learning! We are very grateful to have found such an amazingly talented teacher. I highly recommend Karen Bloch!
My daughter wouldn’t sing during the first lesson. However, I believe she will warm-up and break out of her shell. I believe he is an amazing singer and piano player and I recommend him to anyone who wants to learn to sing and/or piano.
Both my boys took lessons from Luke over the summer. He was always ready for the lessons on time and they practiced to end of each lesson. Luke is professional and understands how to work with younger students. He also knows how to encourage their progress. Luke's a great instructor and his rate is reasonable. I highly recommend Luke to teach music lessons to you or your kids!
Ron was very friendly, very welcoming, and very knowledgable - I truly feel lucky to have come across him. You can see the passion that he has for both teaching and playing music. He plays quite a few instruments as well. He seems to adapt to each of his students' learning styles, which is not something most people can boast. I feel as though, through his assistance, I will reach my goal of comfortablility with the mandolin far earlier than I had anticipated. I would recommend Ron to anyone looking to learn the mandolin. Really looking forward to working with Ron more often.
I have two children at Rochester Academy of Music & Art (RAMA) taking piano and voice for over two years. It's been a wonderful experience, motivating, rewarding and creative. Our family has taken lessons with several schools and teachers in the area and we are happy to call RAMA our music home now. From logistical help to flexibility to high level instruction and skilled musicians, we have found everything we need at RAMA.
Evan is very professional and dependable. He taught my son violin and his lessons were always interesting and full of fun. I miss those days. I also taught music classes with him. He can control the class just like he can conduct an orchestra. I do not hesitate to recommend Evan to any position that he aspires to apply. Should you have any questions, please feel free to contact me: firstname.lastname@example.org Thank you, Wei
SCOTT TESTIMONIAL 2015 I swore off music lessons after a bad experience in high school. My piano teacher insisted that I participate in a recital for family & friends and gave me a Mozart slow movement to play. I could get through it, but I could not play it the way I knew it should be played and my teacher did not give me special instructions to help me learn the ornaments like trills and turns. During the recital, I came to the first trill and froze. It was humiliating & I swore to never play another note--though I loved music and felt a deep loss. Listening to music became painful because I was convinced that I had no talent and would never be able to play pieces that I loved. Many years later after I retired, a piano was left to me when a relative died. After staring at it warily for several months, I decided to try again and found a teacher who gave me Hanon exercises, a metronome and beginner pieces. But, my playing experience was frustrating despite diligent practice. My hands seemed to be stuck in first gear, and I could only play slow pieces from memory. All that changed when my piano tuner suggested that I contact Scott Johnson. I checked out his website, saw Juilliard and Columbia in his resume and wondered if he would take on a relative beginner with my issues. It turned out that he works with people at all levels, and progress happened faster than I expected from the start because he brought such a wealth of materials & techniques--as though he had the resources of an entire conservatory in his back pocket. In my first lessons with Scott, we threw out the Hanon and he exposed me to an amazing new world of music: Liszt's fingering for chords, Phillipp's exercises to develop a "quiet hand" and independence of the fingers, Abby Whiteside's discoveries about positioning yourself to play without reaching for notes, and so much more--a rich mixture of wonderful music matched to exercises for developing technique culled from the lineage of master teachers. For example, something by Beethoven is combined with exercises by his student Carl Czerny--so we have this amazing window through Czerny on how to approach Beethoven's music. I suddenly realized that a lot of what held me back was fixable. After only a few weeks, my small hands were stretched enough to reach a 9th when I had barely been able to reach an octave. And he gave me music that I never dreamed I would be able to play. Things that seemed impossible, became possible because he gave me fingering that worked for my hands and showed me strategies for learning a piece more efficiently than my old method of playing it through a thousand times until my fingers learned it by rote. And theory is included in the lessons. So, I'm playing the music I love with more understanding of the musical ideas that are so compelling to my ear. Scott's wonderful teaching approach and his uncanny ability to find just the right exercises and strategies to help you through the hard stuff will have you excited about playing--and practicing--because he shows you exactly what to aim for and you can see the progress. No matter what your level, he will take you further than you expected. He's the best teacher I have had by far.
I am a Rochester based music educator with a degree in music education. I make my living by teaching and playing music. I am currently looking to add some new students and have very reasonable rates for the area. I am currently accepting guitar, piano, bass, drum and brass students.
